June was so proud of her little sister, she always said that Anita was blessed with the "pipes". She was a star ina limited market. I can't believe the all the girls aren't in the country HOF.All of them should be there especially the Appalachian Angel.
What people don't realize about Anita is that she was part of the hottest group in the 40's and 50's "The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle" After returning from the border stations in Mexico where they were on the radio.,They started out in North Carolina on WBT radio and then on 2 radio stations in Richmond in the early to mid 40's and moved to Knoxville for a year in 1947/48 and went to Springfield Mo. in 1949/50. All those years they performed live at many venues and were just a very special all female band. The group was one of the most sought after tickets for their live shows across the country. Helen Carter, vcls ,accordion, June Carter emcee, vcls, harp, ,Anita Carter vcls, bass and of course their Mother. Mother Maybelle vcls ,acoustic guitar, who made it all happen. They are known as the 2nd generation "Carter family" as well They all 4 could of had solo careers like a Kitty Wells, or a Loretta Lynn. They all 4 had solo contracts with record companies. But the band stayed together and performed and they were the youngest act to join the Grand Ole Opry in 1950.they headlined the WSM Grand Ole Opry tour in 1954 and 55. Heck Elvis Presley an upcoming star was added to "their show". They literally were the 40's and 50's version of the Beatles, as far as the impact they made on the music entertainment in our country. Their harmonies were legendary as well as solo singing. Anita was performing with the group as well as recording for Columbia and RCA They all were stars. They should still be inducted in the CMHOF as the original group "The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle". Just google that name. Finally some of the only recordings that are of the band are making their way to You Tube. They are the 1949 recordings of "The Carter Sisters with Mother Maybelle and Chet Atkins. Mother Maybelle discovered and hired Chet in 1948 in Tennessee when they were doing a radio show for WNOX radio in Knoxville. Anita Carter was widely known as having the most beautiful voice that our country has heard, by notable artists as Johnny Cash, Bette Midler, June Carter Cash, Hank Williams and anyone at the Grand Ole Opry that heard her sing!!
yeah Anita never really became a big star I mean not many young people know how she is but well me annd I guess some others . But she was an importent person in the 50's and 60's They all where I think mostly people still know June because she was Johnny's wife so otherwise no one would
