Bossa Nova was the first Brazilian phonografic product for young people, on 50's. It's a rhythm that mixes Samba and Cool Jazz. Tom Jobim is the most famous composer from this age. He wrote "Girl from Ipanema" with a famous poet called Vinicius de Moraes.
Ela é super conhecida no México, Portugal, Argentina
she is using the "garota de Ipanema sample", which is the famoust brazilian song around the world, produced back 60's, being a music of "bossa nova" music moviment considered for richs and withe people. Anitta started your carrear singing Funk, still does sometimes, and this kind of music is considered "inappropriate", similar to hip hop back then. She being using that sample, with that lyrics and that visual, is so powerfull because the original song is about a girl from the rio's richest neighborhoot (Ipanema). She is white woman, looks like european, has blond hair and looks like model, her name is Helô Pinheiro. Anitta being using that sample, presenting diferents bodys and colours, wich represents the majority of brazilian's populations is so important for us because she is breacking the gringo's idea of Rio de Janeiro. Anitta is the representation of a girl from Rio.
When you realize who Anitta is and the amount of international bops she has under her belt, you can see what an interesting strategy this song is coming from her. She already conquered Brazil's market in Portuguese, (which is pretty much an entire contitent of its own), Latin market (dominated by music in Spanish) and she's known in Europe as well. Therefore, this was a straight-up re-introduction to the US market (who she's been having an 'affair' on the low for quite some time), the beat is accomodated to be extremely pallatable to its audience - sampling "Girl From Ipanema". At the same time, Anitta's sending a message that Brazil has a lot more to offer than good ol' days, vintage postcards and models, and this is just a little taste. I'm not gonna lie, this is not my favorite song/video/lyrics from her, but I understand it was done on purpose. So, I'm excited to see what's up coming next.
Exactly. Anitta wants to show that there is not only that side of postcards, ipanema, copacabana, Cristo Redentor, it is much more than that. She showed Rio de Janeiro and Brazil in its most naked and raw form. The beat of the song had a purpose. She used the beat of Tom Jobim's song "Garota de Ipanema" that became famous worldwide in the 60s, so when someone outside of Brazil listens, it gets that feeling of "I heard it somewhere" and that's when she wins the English public. In short, it's all marketing to conquer an international career, which has been working very well.
That makes a lot of sense I’m a fan of hers with every song she’s featured in and when she announced this one I was as expecting in Portuguese. I was surprised it was mainly all in English (though I’ve heard her sing in English too) so assumed it was to attain more US fans which makes sense and thank u for pointing out the sample cause it is very catchy. Much love to Anitta and her success
You mates just opened Pandora's box. Now ya'll gonna have a flock of Brazilians commenting on your reaction and asking for you guys to react to Anitta's videos and so many more Brazilian artists... Great comments, thanks for showing some of Brazilian music down under! Peace 🤙🏽🤙🏽
I'm brazilian and on my opinion Girl from Rio is gonna change her career forever. This is my favorite song that she made so far, I love the original Girl from Ipanema and I'm obsessed with this version. Best wishes to you guys and to Anitta.
Girl from Rio was made to break stereotypes about Brazil, specially from Rio, which are all about soccer, girls who looks like models, the beautiful beaches. Brazil is diverse, and the real Brazil was showed in this video.
Incredible! Everyone heard "girl from ipanema" once in his life. Less than 10 seconds and a random dude from the other side of the world already knew he was hearing a familiar sound. Hope Anitta can make it again, put Brazil's culture in relevance in the world.
Acho as duas maravilhosas e amo ambas.
Highly recommend you guys listen to some other Brazilian artists: Gloria Groove is a drag queen who combines rap, rnb and hip hop styles. Also look up Iza, she has a phenomenal voice, she's like the Beyonce of Brazil, her style is rnb, soul and brazilian-african vibes. My husband is Brazilian and I've been a fair amount of times, this clip is SOO Brazilian. Anitta is shining a light on and showing us a snapshot of the "real" side of Rio, about living in the favelas. Rio isn't what Australians/Americans imagine it to be, and it was confronting for me the first time I went. 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Anitta has been improving her music videos as well her english accent. The lyrics show us the duality between Rio perspective. One of south zone views and other from most realities areas. And of course, we're all of them.
Garota de Ipanema" ("The Girl from Ipanema") is a Brazilian bossa nova and jazz song. It was a worldwide hit in the mid-1960s and won a Grammy for Record of the Year in 1965. It was written in 1962, with music by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Portuguese lyrics by Vinícius de Moraes. English lyrics were written later by Norman Gimbel.[1] The first commercial recording was in 1962, by Pery Ribeiro. The Stan Getz recording featuring the vocal debut of Astrud Gilberto became an international hit. This version had been shortened from the version on the album Getz/Gilberto (recorded in March 1963, released in March 1964), which had also included the Portuguese lyrics sung by Astrud's then husband João Gilberto. In the US, the single peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100, and went to number one for two weeks on the Easy Listening chart.[2] Overseas it peaked at number 29 in the United Kingdom, and charted highly throughout the world. Numerous recordings have been used in films, sometimes as an elevator music cliché. It is believed to be the second most recorded pop song in history, after "Yesterday" by The Beatles.[3] The song was inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001.[4] In 2004, it was one of 50 recordings chosen that year by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry.[5] In 2009, the song was voted by the Brazilian edition of Rolling Stone as the 27th greatest Brazilian song.[6]
In the beginning, the music you listen to is composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim and written by Vinicius de Moraes in 1962 - Girl from Ipanema - (Original song).
a curiosity about the Brazil is the most diverse country in the whole world outside of Japan Brazil is the country that has the most Japanese in the world and Italian etc. and as time goes by the ethnic groups have mixed creating several others here in Brazil
She is basically comparing the “fancy Rio” of the expensive neighborhoods, Bossa Nova (girl from Ipanema) with another side of Rio that you will see in more “popular areas” like working class neighborhoods!
The stair scene, is reference to Marilyn Monroe in the movie : "Gentlemen prefers blondes'-Diamonds are a girls best friend. Even if you haven't ever heard of Anitta, this video begin with the sample Girl from Ipanema 60's Era, sprinkles with Hollywood Golden Era, plus the catchy lyrics, makes the song and the photography of the video stays with the Spector. 1. It's her family. 2. the painting, is a mixture, similar to hair dye to light body hair, this is so Brazilian and we usually do at the beach or even at home.
Hey, I'm Brazilian. The music that you listen to at the beginning, is the instrumental of Tom Jobim's song The Girl From Ipanema, (1962). It belongs to a type of Brazilian music, called MPB.
"Girl from Ipanema" by Tom Jobim was made worldwide famous in his version singing it in English with Frank Sinatra (the main sample in this Anitta's song)
The beat is sampled from "Garota de Ipanema (Girl from Ipanema) - Tom Jobim", one of the brazilian song's most known in the world, and the title is a reference too. Anitta is brilliant!
Thanks for the comments. It's important for u to know we have millions of Anittas dying every day here in Brazil. Its so difficult to reach USA so it's really great to hear from u!
Perfeitos.
