Just found your channel while researching the lighter USBC, 45W adapter to go into my travel kit. I am a digital nomad and travel full-time, only traveling with a personal carry-on item stored under my seat. So weight, volume, and ability to power my laptop are very important to me. Hi, I really like your review as you are doing something very special when others just talked about the specification on the box. here are some ideas for reviews other than power adaptors, USB cables: as a consumer, USB cables are very confusing due to capability and compatibility, KVM Switches, so many in the market but I have not foudn a review that actually considered details like the way you review usb charger. I am particular interested KVM switch that is for PC & Mac, with two 4k monitors output. Good luck with your channel.

The single port chargers will always have a leg up on the multi ports one. But it's easy to see that theres still something that can be done to improve the charging performance even further.

Yeah, I like the multiport ones, as I said, with more watts. I do keep the 45W nano II in my camera bag though because it is too convenient not to.

I am very glad sir you managed to review these newer Anker chargers. I was really looking forward to Anker 313 since I am considering it as my next phone/laptop charger. It is a bummer they don't make lower watt chargers with power factor correction but these look okay and I would say Anker is reliable. Also it is not expensive, it's actually cheaper than the Samsung 45w charger and also smaller which is great for travelling. Thank you very much for this review, looking forward to many more.

Have you ever tried comparing differenced between 2 power adapters of the same kind? Like buying from differen stores or countries so they whould be made in different batches and seeing consistency. If all of their products have same statistics or if there is some kind of variantion depending on the build.

Yes, several times. I compared dell 90w laptop adapters, apple 5w adapters, I compared several models and years of APD power adapters (those were not reliable and had variance, also significantly older). Even with the different models and years of adapters they mostly all do the same. Even two purchased at the same time, which I have done a couple times also, one of the Anker 3 series, same. The minix/invzi are clones, same results. All the 140W adapter clones, all got almost exactly the same results. So, in general, even across manufacturers these things tend to be very close. The uncertainty on the low end is higher in measurements as PF and THD contribute, these add variance to the more precisely measured parameters like amps and volts.

I have that 523 (47W Anker), and it runs hot. Also, my little $15 tester shows more resistance with it than older Anker chargers, or even my trusty 65W AmazonBasics, which has been rock solid.

@@AllThingsOnePlaceYeah, I’m not sure where resistance comes into play when comparing adapters (given the same cable… the cable being where resistance matters), but my tester shows a higher ohm value with the 523 than it does with even older chargers of various sizes (again, keeping the cable the same). Should I ignore the ohm value as irrelevant when comparing chargers?

Does port 2 on the UGREEN really lack 15V support, or is that just a mistake in the manual? And does the Anker 47W really have a fixed 11V mode, or is that a 12V mode mislabeled PPS mode?

The user manual in both cases is incorrect. The UGREEN has 15V and the Anker 11V mode is PPS. Excellent finds!

Great video. I was wondering what would be an advantage of getting the Anker 523 compared to Anker 735 GanPrime (65w, 3 port) when it can go on sale for $40-45 (and cost can be similar between the two)? The latter can probably charge a greater range of laptops.

Yeah, excellent point. The 65w is slightly heavier and larger but splitting hairs. I guess the challenge is when the 523 is on sale but yeah the 65W gives you an extra port an a few extra modes with a QC USB A port.

I'm slightly confused - you say the PPS mode on the Anker 313 can do 4A but the manual says it maxes out at 3A (1:37) for the PPS. Am I misunderstanding the concept?

I just checked it again, it can do 4 amps on the PPS mode, I think the user manual is just not clear that it also has an 11V mode. It does require a 100w emarked cable though.

I think Anker is a little better on the quality side now, I know they've had issues before too, and still do sometimes. They are the established premium brand. UGREEN wants to be that and is trying but at least in the US market doesn't seem to want to get things safety listed which is why I shrug them off as second tier.

Personally I would also like them to be registered in the US security list too, I agree with you, what happened to me is that I have recently purchased a new 20w anker nano pro which fails me, on some occasions it cuts the power and works again as if it were restarted and that worries me especially for my switch and s22, so I wanted to change it but that thorn stuck, I have an old no gan anker 20w charger which works without problems but I wanted to update it.

Are there any examples of devices that use PPS? Samsung and Google Pixel's are the only two I know of that use it, but only up to 10V. Is there a downside to getting a charger than only does 11V or 16V max PPS?

Yeah, I've been on the lookout for devices that use the higher voltage PPS. I haven't found any. Samsung does go to 11V on some phones. The point of PPS is it is variable so if the mode is 16, but the device needs 10, it will get 10. The issue comes down to current with that voltage. What current can the power adapter deliver and is that being negotiated to and I think that leads to some issues with chargers. The 313 is made to better support that lower voltage PPS mode though.

Hmm, I'd expect the Samsung to be a bit better quality wise and in terms of longevity, but it is a larger adapter. The 313 is much more space optimized but it's going to get hotter and probably have a shorter lifespan as a consequence of heat.

Hi, your Voltage Ripple measurement results (single digit or low double digit.) are way below what I've measured and also seen in other reviews. For example, I would be happy to see Ripple below 100 mV at 5V output. Can you please elaborate? Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I didn’t like it either, I was expecting 40 or 50mV and up on higher voltage settings. They are RMS AC voltage but my equipment for this is not accurate enough at mV resolution (old scope), not cool old, like junk old. I wanted to give it a go and bandwidth has to be majorly limited somewhere in the chain. The load being in constant power may also have something to do with it though. It’s constantly adjusting to keep power constant. Anyway, I am on the lookout for a bench multimeter (if even possible) with good ac bandwidth and ac millivolt (can be rms or pkpk) measurement or a scope but also trying not to spend thousands of dollars on one. I know siglent and gwinstek make cheap scopes, not sure they’d be any better though.

Samsung uses, PPS so 9V (variable voltage mode) and 5 Amps to achieve 45 watts. So, typically a device will need the 11V mode with 5 amps of current to be able to get to this power level. It may have a 45w mode but it isn't the one that they use or have historically use, it would be great if they expanded to more modes. I haven't looked into the latest devices so maybe they did.

Is there any charger on the market that does not renegotiate at all whenever a new device is plugged in / unplugged?

It is part of the process of getting more voltage, so anything will higher voltage will do that. The difference is all the other ports renegotiate on a plug unplug of one port. The higher wattage devices have limited functionality in this regard. For the example the (well some of the) 200W chargers will keep two ports active at a time without any switching off and back on again. Obviously, anything single port is fine since there's only one device. On the lower wattages though, no, everything I have found resets on plug of second device.

wich charger you would recommnded for iphone 15 pro? sometimes i would like to charger other phones/ diveces like cycling computers etc. so not high wattege needed, but 2 ucb-c slots or usb-c and usb a would nice to have. The most i value is effeciency and durability. reading comments about anker 523 heating up, it makes me wonder how much it is effecting durabilty 🤔 do you have experince combability aplle devices? Yeah, specifically, no recommendations for that one device. But just as a general use case for lots of lower powered devices, you may end up with something like the Baseus 100W GaN3 desktop, it has two USB A ports though so use those for the low powered devices, two C ports for phones. This is a bit over the power level needed, but generally can be had for a reasonable price and won't get too hot since you aren't taxing it to it's power limit. It is also very efficient.

The Samsung official 45W charger is a good unit. It is a bit larger and I'd expect it to last a little longer because it doesn't get quite as hot as the Anker units. If size and weight is the primary concern then the Anker wins. For PPS mode charging both are good options though.

For the lower wattage chargers yes. Usually you have to step up to a 100W or 65W class device to charge a laptop and a phone together.

Just a quick question about the Ugreen, You said that there isn’t a safety listing for North America, I’m looking on tuv reinhands database and I’m able to find this model and the latest necked mini 30 watt on there. Is that not for the North American market? Just making sure

Yeah, they don’t have any us listings as far as I know. Some have Japanese listings and other listings I’ve found on the tuv website also. Some have no listings at all though.

@@robnavarro9405 I haven't looked up every single one, but the ones I have seen have been TUV PSE for Japan. Which I also tore one down and the construction looked good inside. It doesn't mean that all of them are that for all time and with no exceptions. I've probably only been hands on with 10% of what UGREEN sells so could even be the minority.

It would make an interesting video if you tested and analyzed a ton of dirt cheap chargers, even ones from Temu and stuff just to spread awareness about using certified chargers that are safe and work well.

Yeah, it didn't go above 3 amps during testing so it would be the lower category charging speed.

It should work for a smaller macbook air with m series chips. I think apple ships them with a 35 watt adapter. If you upgrade the components to max I think it bumps up to a 70W adapter though.

@@AllThingsOnePlace I was going to get the 70 watt but I 2 arguments saying it kills the battery due to excessive heating and that the constant quick charging also further kills the battery yet there's not a single video on RU-vid or evidence on Reddit about what the battery temps are or temperatures in a MacBook Air as there's no active cooling. my MacBook Air will be on a vesa monitor stand so lots of ventilation but all the comments have me kind of nervous to use the 70 watt as a regular day to charger so hence I was looking at a lower watt 45.

My 45w 313 won't hold the super fast charging and switches back to "fast charging" at 25w after a few seconds. Not sure why.

@papasmurf6312 no, it wasn't. It was the charger. Wasn't using that cable. Also tried 3 different cables that show wattage IRT. Clearly could see power throttling. Switched the Samsung 45W charger and it charges at 43W, takes less than an hour to charge

For lower wattage charging anker, ugreen, Samsung ones all seem pretty good. For higher wattages, anker prime adapters mostly seem pretty good, baseus 100w adapters seem good in general.

Very impressive information on the nothing phone webpage. They tell you exactly what it needs! 45W PPS (3.3~20V/2.25A) wired charging: full charge in 55 mins So simple, if the charger has one of those modes then you are good. Depending on the PPS voltage it looks like it will charge faster or slower. The 313 should top out for charging speed.

The 7 series is almost always the better charger, but it really comes down to wattage. Also, there is a little bit of luck of a draw with the 15 pro max, it is incompatible with a random selection of chargers. But baring that issue, either charger is fine.

what will happen if you charge your samsung S23 ultra with samsung 25W charger which is not that great amongst chargers (compared to some of the better ones)? will it cause faster degradation of the battery? thank you.

The degradation of the battery won't be affected by charger statistics. Only reason I can think of it affecting it is if more heat is produced due to higher current draw from the battery (which requires a negotiation between the phone's charging IC as well as the SRC's controller)

Yeah, temperature probably plays a bigger role than anything. A larger charger will get warmer, so if the phone is getting hotter during charging that may accelerate degradation of cells but the difference with modern charge controllers is probably negligible. They'll slow down the charge speed as soon as things get too warm. A cheap charger probably will charge slower, although the charger may not be safe or may get hotter because itself is inefficient, the phone probably doesn't care.

As an owner of the 45W Nexode charger, I can confirm it does not support 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0 for Samsung device. Despite being PPS capable, it only maxes out at 25W..so Super Fast Charging 1.0. Yes, I've used a a 5A cable and no other devices plugged in.

Hello my friend, I hope you help me. I would like to buy 2 chargers: 1x with one connection and 1x dual. For the dual it would be Anker 523 47W or UGreen 45W and the singles the 30w versions. All the same price .Can you please give me some advice 😅

I'd probably pick the Anker if technical support is important. The Ugreen is a little more efficient though. Not sure which one would last longer.

@@AllThingsOnePlace I ordered both to compare. I think ugreen feels more stable but Anker is the better brand. Anker warmed up faster during a test according to an app (I don't know if it's good or meaningful) . I have to send one back but I don't know which one yet. According to a test, Anker achieved 980 mamp, which I never achieved with ugreen, a maximum of 860, but Anker always failed in further tests

I think it only goes to 3 amps so it won't do the full 45W charging.

Doesn't mean it is broken as some do leak worse than others. Tolerances on transformers, or an over capacity suppression capacitor. If it is too noticeable I'd replace it before it becomes a problem.

I don't know. This is the wait until everyone else gets all the viral videos out channel, then like 3 months later I put out a video about it, haha. I had a look around Samsung's webpage and as usual, nothing at all, even in the 173 page user manual, not one mention of how to charge it! Even apple has a dedicated page like, it works like this... I guess they assume users can't handle that much information.

I am still wondering what the difference is between the Nano II and the 315 (both 65 watt). Does that 315 still uses GAN 2? There is no mention of it in the marketing anymore.

These are isolated things. Power Quality in reference to a power adapter is an Alternating Current or AC metric related to efficiency and other parameters.

The 45w Samsung charger isn’t bad. These usually come with a 100w capable 5a cable too. The main question is if your laptop will operate within the 45 watt power available from the Samsung power adapter. Many will but you’ll have to check the specifications for your machine.

Great video, as always!! The Anker 313 has great efficiency in the low-power zone (5-20 W). For charging smartphones it looks like an excellent choice. Do you think it would qualify as one of the best (if not the best) product in the 45 W class?

Wow, that is some crazy expensive USB cable. So, it's an extension cord and a couple short cables? Each connector adds more resistance and USB C is not a great connector for that so that probably will do quite poorly by unit length in terms of charging efficiency and resistance.

My anker 313 doesnt hold to super fast charging. Its about 15% slower than the 45w Ugreen and the 65w teknet

That is weird. They basically made this adapter for that. It does depend on charge state of the device but yeah anything lower than 50% should hold that status. Thanks for sharing.

@AllThingsOnePlace I'll do more tests and I'll order a different cable that gives Wattage, i have one but just to be sure. I have a proper voltmeter but I'm not actually adept at using it for more than basic home repair. In any case, I have a few different chargers here and 2 s23 ultras, haven't yet seen anything above 35W. The anker 313, ugreen 45w dual port, tecknet 65w, a few 25W Samsung chargers are the ones I currently have. When charging in the 30% range Samsung and 313 hold steady at 25W under fast charging, Tecknet holds at 30W, Ugreen does the fluctuations and appears to turn off but it cycles from 0-35 Watts over 10s and keeps that cycle up. It charges the fastest and coolest but without a printout of wattage over time I'm not specifically sure what is happening. For right now a few more days of tests to be sure and from a less than 10%. I also purchased the Samsung branded wireless chargers and those seem fine.

@@didamnesia3575 hmm, I don't think that would matter. An online UPS recreates a sinewave so would be changing the output versus what is supplied by the mains, a switching UPS, is just directly connected to the mains with a relay so that would no different. Keep me posted on your results though.
