Since I posted Virginia O'Brien's version, I thought I should also post Ann's unused recording of this Roger Edens/Yip Harburg song. I like the choral sections, and the third chorus that was dropped from Virginia's version. Which do you prefer?

One of the things I love about this era of songs (& earlier) is how the intro/prologue section was almost half the whole song. 🙂

Only wish you could have seen her on stage in GYPSY. She was the best Rose ever!

Hard to beat Virginia's version as her style of humour is so modern subtle but very interesting to hear. I had heard that there was a song that southern didn't want to do and O'Brien took it and I thought that was "at the Savoy"

Thanks for posting this rarity. The chorus accompanying Miss Sothern comprised two radio and recording vocal groups: Six Hits and a Miss and The Music Maids.

We love Six Hits and a Miss - they also backed up Judy Garland in "Girl Crazy"!

And, I prefer Ann Sothern’s version. They were both very talented.
