Former Conservative politician Ann Widdecombe rang in to LBC to confront the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby as he took listeners' calls in a radio first.
Really not sure how. Please explain how the teachings of Jesus Christ manifest themselves in Anne Widdecombe's views? She doesn't sound particularly Christian to me.
Treating her with total contempt , James as usual trying to be rather clever , but fails miserably. Arch bishop well speaks volumes but say very little.
Honest about belief in a fairy tale figure dictating some sort of morality, the honesty may be respected but the views are hilariously pathetic and spiteful. To be honest I can't understand why anyone who was homosexual would chose to follow a make believe doctrine that seems to hate them and see them as less in the first place but as they clearly do, I am thankful that most figures in the CofE at least see them for exactly what they are, no different to the rest of other than what they chose to do sexually
Typical angry white male in this comments section, you all need to chill out.ann is a person who keeps it real??her views are of a person living in Victorian times.sone of you white males are so angry with the world.happy Christmas to you all
avelingbarford He spoke completely differently when at his school Ampleforth College in Yorkshire. The Elton of the Catholic Church! They all spoke in upper class accents with names like Tobias , Benedict and St. John. I know because my school used to play them at Rugby none of them spoke with Estuary accents - he is a total fraud !!!!
@@Misst888 He was obviously the poor boy intimidated by the posh ones Many kids who weren't popular or bullied become jobsworths & the bullies as adults. JoB pretends not to like "upper" classes but purrs if any throw him a crumb of kindness. Poor O'Brien is a social climber without any friends to climb up & he's bitter.
Over the years, I have grown to like this lady. I admire her bluntness and integrity. Nowadays, the role of an Archbishop is act and behave as a politician. As for O'Brain, what an arrogant presenter.
@@mmcfarlane001 He's not giving a straight answer .....dodging it like most people in high profile positions too frightened of upsetting peoples feelings.
@@billwellington4339 We all upset people. When we do it because we mindlessly believe some dogma we cannot possibly defend, then we slip into ignorance and stupidity. My opinion..... like it or not.
This is typical James O’Brien, constantly trying to interrupt callers and throw them off track in his usual smug way. Well I’m sorry James, you were no match for Ann Widdecombe here. Neither was the Archbishop.
What we need is a health MOT, so everytime one has a new partner each person has to get a STI test paid for by each person. not the NHS, this would eliminate sexually transmitted infections !
When will these followers of christ start to follow his teachings? Christ said, "Sell everything you own and give the money to the poor. " Come on Bishop, free yourself of the burden of wealth. Bet you don't.?
The Archbishop needs to question why his parishes are dwindling faster than the ice caps in the artic, and why other religions are exceedingly developing !
He's hopeless but in his defence he's no more hopeless than the one who went before him, it's therefore not surprising than few look towards the church for guidance anymore, they don't lead, they follow as misguided popularity is what they seek and respect is what they lose.
The CofE is no longer Bible orientated. Romans 1: 26-27 tells us quite clearly that homosexuality is a sin. The Evangelical church is the only way to go, but even then, one has to be on one's guard.
Btw way her take it or leave it aooriach slams that door of Heaven in many peoples face. Ann ofcourse is for Heaven , she knows that, as she knows everything
22grena Compassionate. Frankly all churches need to get over the ridiculous attitude to gays, but at least one is choosing to object with compassionate language. It says a lot about Anne Widdecombe’s unpleasant brand of Christianity that it so upsets her. We shouldn’t just condemn, we should condemn with the harshest tone.
Archbishop of Canterbury.... ohhh the ego. It’s very interesting the way he wiggles out of answering questions directly. You don’t need half a brain to predict he went to Eton then to Cambridge.
This should have formed the framework of a discussion when it was still relevant. Sadly the churches are now empty and new religions stalk the land. The CoE went wrong when it exchanged spiritual guidance for profane social engineering.
The Pope did not declare infallible doctrine when he said this. People should know that it is extremely rare to declare new doctrine and even more rare for it to be done infallibly.
@@brianmasters1125they have all been the servant of the servants of Christ in the church founded by Christ. This is what happens when you break from the church founded by jesus. You don't get rid of the pope, you create billions of them.
Ann Widdecombe at one point heard the presenter start to interrupt her and remarked on it; he acted as if she was objecting without reason; he was not even aware that he had interrupted her. It is a reflex with him.
This has got nothing to do with science and religious belief. It's about the Church of England becoming a spineless liberal organisation that has become too worldly and carnally minded.
I'm not a fan of Anne.....but I respect her as having her own opinions, and I would defend her having her own opinions till the cows come home as her right of free speech, which is sadly lacking in the UK and Europe these days. I think she got her point across though, about the Archbishop being wishy washy and the reason why they are losing punters in their droves.
2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. This archbishop is that.
Actually, the Archbishop has been quite outstanding in answering these questions and we should learn how to handle difficult questions without putting their foot in their mouth!
I do love Anne however I must say as a communicant member of the Church of England I have met several female priests who do an excellent job. We move with the times.
The modern church is about dilution. They carry on,and people stop going.the church is the fundamental source of our societal law. Love thy neighbor, he withouth sin, tolerance. But that should not stop this bishop from saying what the principles of Christianity is as regards these issues but rather, explain that Christianity is tolerant and inclusive. So yes Anne is right.
