I love how she's not afraid to just let loose, especially SLAM the left hand at 6:57 - 7:01. One of the most passionate performances I have ever heard of this Ballade.
Anna, your playing is far beyond "wonderful." I've just listened to you F-minor Ballade, your F-Minor Fantasy and now this ballade, and I can't believe my good fortune at discovering you before it's too late. I'm nearing eighty years of age, and from what I've heard today YOU have come closest to giving IDEAL perofrmances of these great work -- works I've studied and performed, myself, over a fifty year period. Your playing has EVERYTHING, Anna. I wish you the greatest success possible.
@Konstantin Ridaya I don't understand either. I do not play a musical instrument but I have been listening to music for a very long time. Anna--to my ears, anyway--seems to have achieved technical proficiency + a real "feel" for the music itself.
@Konstantin Ridaya I thought I was the only one who noticed! I always thought to myself her rendition of andante spianato was just out of this world, how could he have beat her to the 1st place? She was firing on all cylinders that year. What a shame indeed. I hope her career is still going strong!
I probably enjoyed this way more than some of the winners, especially the way she colours some lines, the way she sings and phrases the sublime passages, and the atmosphere
someone in the comments says this is the performance that got her eliminated from the competition. Whaaat? Who won the competition then? Must have been God himself.
She did not yet truly understand this piece. It is often rushed, the phrases are too often not crafted or allowed to breathe. It is monotonous. No doubt she shows that a formidable talent will soon emerge. She already has the formidable technique.
