Not a WTA 500/1000 playing at this level. She seems too slow at the moment and not making the right shot choices. She has the ability to be very good but needs to get back to her form of earlier in 2024. She made the QF of the AO and played pretty well at Wimbledon this year to reach 4R. She reached her best ranking of 12 just recently due to her strong performance in all 4 2024 majors and continued success getting through early rounds of most WTA tournaments. To win a WTA 500/1000 event will probably require wins over players of the stature of Sabalenka, Swiatek, Gauff, Zheng, Muchova, Pauline etc and I can't see her doing that with her current form. There are also some very good other Chinese, East European and US players coming up the rankings fast, so only the most determined players are going to make it to the top.

I think the fact that they're friends helped sweeten the pill somewhat.
