Immense respect for Anna Kendrick in the way she handled this frankly bizarre interview. It almost felt like "the Devil interviews Anna Kendrick", but Anna turned it into "Anna Kendrick hands the Devil his ass."
I had the chance to meet her at the set of The Last Five Years, she was so nice, took the time to take pictures with me and everything. She's the greatest and so talented.
TJGLJKG +communityband1 He is creepy - I hated when he tried to get her to draw some major parallel between her actual personal life and TLFY: "so, You *are* Jamie" followed by "Do you leave the story feeling more optimistic about love or sad about the prospects of love working out and making love last." Jian misses the point: Anna is successful but she isn't "Jamie" because she is not an asshole. And why should the failure of Jamie/ Jason Robert Brown's marriage change Anna Kendrick's outlook or prospects?
That interview was really rough. He basically asked her all these random ass questions that were totally personal and irrelevant, and she did a super good job turning it around and making it professional and basically only giving into the personal questions to the amount that she does with other interviewers. She only gave her standard jokes and the "netflix, twitter, sleep at home and be lazy" thing she does when she's uncomfortable with personal questions. She either had a very good guide/instructor on how to handle this, or she has very good intuition. I could tell she was a little uncomfortable the whole time, like she normally has no problem leaning in towards interviewers and she doesn't care in they touch her arm or whatever, but she was leaning back when he seemed to come closer. Her jokes were totally textbook for her, but she did an amazing job not showing her nervousness and just plowing through the interview.
Christoph McDougal I wasn't implying anything personal. I was implying that his reputation either proceeded him or Anna was very uncomfortable with him. And, no, he's a horrible interviewer. His job is to help her promote her movie. Yes, there should be personal questions to make the actor/actress seem more connectable, but this was over the line. His focus was on her, not the movie, and that's not why she was there. He also should have picked up on how uncomfortable she was with him being close and backed off.
there were so many questions regarding the movie, most of the time they talked about the movie. relating it back to her life is a way to connect with her and the movie. There is nothing wrong with that. I loved all his questions, they were interesting and not boring like every other interviewer, it was toughtful
Jessica Yip An interviewer's job isn't to ask personal questions, it's to promote the movie the actor is there interviewing about. His questions were way out of line. She has a personal life that she keeps private, and both he and audiences should respect that. An interview isn't to learn about an actor's personal life, it's to promote the movie and the actor starring in it in a certain way. Serious actors will give serious interviews, funny actors will give funny interviews, and at the end of the day the actor can go home knowing they did their job (because it's requited for most actors to promote their movie).
he did EVERYTHING possible on earth just to make this speech uncomfortable but anna did absolutely great, her words were magical and the end made me cry like a child. I fucking love her.
anna makes me too happy, to a point it's unhealthy. her smile=me happy her voice=me happy her laugh=me happy her just genuinely exsisting=holy crap I think I'm gonna explode if something happened to her like if she passed away I would legitimately cry myself to sleep for weeks. She is legit the only person who makes me happy.
I'd sympathize more with him if his FIRST song after the wedding weren't all about how it's really hard not to sleep with other women. (and if his song about cheating on her didn't try to make it all her fault) 'Cause Cathy sounds hard to be married to, but man he checked out quickly.
I think the point is we can say that of both of them. They are both dicks. Just depends where you are in life. It’s so cyclical; plot-wise and musically it is an epic cycle.
i felt so uncomfortable when the man was interviewing anna, his random questions just put her on the sport. But i think she did really well dealing with the her personal life not giving to much information and not to little.
This was an incredible interview. The best by far of all with Anna Kendrick. Don't get me wrong, I really love her witty stories that present her as a 'dork' which she serves to every interviewer out there. On the other hand, this one was really deep, I feel like we could really see her through - her motives, her feelings, her thoughts. It was extremely genuine. I loved it. I don't see how you interpret the guy to be flirting... I think he's just born psychologist, and that's it - that's just his style. He's open, he expects openness. Every question you consider private - it actually wasn't. He never asked her about her relationships, it was only vaguely related to them. What he focused on where her impressions, opinions, feelings. Yes, she seemed quite uncomfortable at times, it was seen when she answered quickly and turned the question around as with the happiness at the end... but she dealt with all of them very well. Plus I'm sure she knew what the guy's game was, so accepting the interview she accepted the questions. And btw she always might have rejected the questions, change the topic, play dorky-sarcasm (which she sometimes did). The truth is that when you think Anna Kendrick you see wit, you see responses, you see stories, you see acting - you see entartainment! And this interview was everything BUT these things. It was SERIOUS! I like to see this side of any public/showbusiness figure. Because the people don't tend to get that they are also, true, flash-and-blood humans... Just... refreshing!
Knowing Jian was accused of sexual harassment makes this interview ten times more creepy. I feel so bad that Anna had to spend half an hour with this guy. His sexually suggestive tone and constant flirting is uncomfortable to watch, let alone respond to. Anna handled this interview very well considering Jian did not respect her boundaries and continued to ask her inappropriate questions.
Anna really understands Cathy so well. It’s so easy to blame Jamie for the failure of the relationship but Cathy is also riddled with insecurities that she has trouble communicating until she just explodes. One of my all time favorite musicals. Love you Anna!
I'm a big fan of Kendricks, she is such a wonderful talent. And I'm very impressed with how much she invests of herself in the interview. Puts the pressure on the interviewer to be up to the challenge. And a couple of times here you see Jian isn't, and gets a little overwhelmed by Anna. Still, a great interview, and as always, I'm a fan of Jians and look forward to these videos.
i'm sorry, but why are you asking her if she thinks she's a "nice person", whether she thinks she's boring or "if there's a dark side we haven't seen?" these have nothing to do with her films or her work. and while it would be fine to look at personal details when it comes to interviews, i notice that you did not ask ethan hawke or jake gyllenhaal about whether they're "nice people". neither did you ask mr. hawke or mr. gyllenhaal if they feel competition with other actors, like you did with anna kendrick or keira knightley. why are you focussing on the competition that exists between women? also, why are you asking such soft ball weak questions to women?
Loved this interview! You said jokes with her and at the same time you were able to pull out her serious opinions. Most interviewers can’t do that so thank you! (but sometimes it was a bit awkward lol)
I had no idea of what this man gets up to before watching this interview, and throughout the whole thing I felt deeply uncomfortable and felt really sorry for Anna when he started to ask personal questions or irrelevant questions that were becoming flirtatious. I then googled him and I now feel ill. What a disgusting man. I have no respect for men like this..
I don't know anything about this guy except that everyone seems to hate him from the comments, but I think he asked really interesting questions. It was a bit personal at times but I think overall it was a really interesting interview
love how every interview jeremy does, they talk about working with anna the whole time. guess who’s name never came up in this interview... JEREMY JORDAN
Some really hostile comments to the interviewer here. I really don't get it. He doesn't seem mean, upset, or creepy at all to me. I thought his questions were very interesting. He made her think and got some really deep answers. I thought it was very cool.
Ghomeshi was a star interviewer in Canada. That's why he always tried to be at the same level of the interviewee. And I think most of the times, he accomplished to be as interesting to listen to as the interviewee herself (himself). At the same time he doesn't stand in the way of the interviewee. He sets it in a such a way that the interviewee is led to say something interesting. He has a great voice and just knows how to navigate through an interview with a star. His problem with the law - I won't comment on it simply because I don't have all the details and, since I'm a fan of his work, any analysis I might have been able to provide wouldn't be unbiased.
felt like she seemed a little uncomfortable in the interview with a few questions. career questions were great but asking her about her own personality made her feel uncomfortable.
Wish I could get the The Last Five Minutes back. The interviewing skills of this guy made it brutal to watch. Edit: Just read some of the comments. Creepy and inappropriate seems to be the winning description for the guy. Glad I didn’t keep watching.
I thought it was interesting interview, the guy was trying to get more insight into Anna's personality. Was he creepy? I don't think so, imo seems like he was a big fan and was star struck.
At like the 915 mark is just affirmation that she is my future wife. When she talks about loving musicals, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones. And Harry Potter. 😍😍😍😍❤❤❤
Lol she did a great job at keeping it light hearted and funny, while he was trying to be a weird therapist person. She's good at making it entertaining and real
Omg she is just perfect shes hot shes an amazing singer she seems really nice and funny and shes a great actress. Everything a perfect women should be.
The last 10 minutes were weirder but it was good overall. The gaps that he wanted her to say something extra or that he needed to think of the next question were way too long.
Mentions of "dark sides" and what is being "nice"...given recent events, this interview has taken on a whole more interesting tempo. "Make one of those Tweets for me..." Yes, it's a much better interview now.
I know this is a super old comment; but to be honest, I think a lot of people has not seen what she could do with her voice in some low prolific stuff she has done. She can sing gospel really well. And, in recent times, Into the Woods shows how high she can sing. Like, they made her sing higher than the original performer of On the Stairs of the Palace and she nailed it very well.
tu voz ,produce en mi ,viste cuando una madera está herida ,astillada rajada de manera incompleta y el viento la mueve ,eso simplemente que en tu caso no es madera ,bueno pero con tigo son mis huesos,la cuerda que haces vibrar
He was trying to be a creep to make her drop her personal or emotional walls to get a better interview or some crap or just be be a complete creep I don't know. more then likely being a creep to make her feel weak and himself strong as he apparently has done forcefully on many females. she wasn't interested in this so he forced the odd and personal qeustions and even nearly his personal opinions on her almost. Taking quats from other interviews and titling her not knowing who she really is another controlling habit. The entire interview was extremely annoying. In trying to expose her and make her feel awkward and perhaps weak she exposed him as a person.
Devon Zastre I loved how she turned a couple questions back on him! It’s so gross that she had to endure it in the first place, but she handled it so well.
