Australia Burning is a song about falling deeply and unexpectedly in love in the thick of a devastating natural disaster. As many Australians would remember, the 2019 bushfires felt like the world was ending. The smoke hung so thick that you couldn’t see more than a few metres in front of you, and the sun burned blood-red in the sky, like a harbinger of the apocalypse. I wanted to capture the feeling of that time through the imagery and arrangement - the hazy atmosphere, the unrelenting heat, and the confusion and comfort we found in clinging to each other as the world burned down around us.
