“There were bad times going on and the Czar had to have a scapegoat. So who do they usually pick on? On the Jewish people; a minority.” Anne Cronig (1917-1999) tells the story of the harrowing journey her father Samuel Cronig took to come to America. Arriving on Martha’s Vineyard in 1904, Anne describes how - with his three brothers - in 1917 he started Cronig’s Market, which is still flourishing today. From a 1995 interview.
