U2 are the most overrated band ever - rubbish bass player, bog standard drummer and they use politics and gimmicks to mask a lot of things - surprised people have bought into it for so long.
@@dominiccrimmings6925 Dominic put down the crack pipe,Clayton and Mullen are recognised to be outstanding musicians, obviously your deaf and really thick.
@@johnd4587 Firstly, it's "you're" not "your". So "you're" (see how that works?) telling me, in the annals of music history, Adam and Larry will be lauded in the same light as Bonham, Peart, Moon, John Paul Jones, Entwhistle, Jaco etc. Give me a break. Get a life dude, apart from Edge, the musicians in U2 are mediocre at best.
@@dominiccrimmings6925 because YOU are (not your) the standard that is able to rate all of rock-n-roll??? 1. they are (not their) in the hall of fame 2. as a whole they fit together better than any 1 band- your example of Bonham, Peart and Moon overshadowed their (not there- since you love grammar so much) respective bands with their drumming instead of fitting in. 3. They do a lot more than "use politics" they actually change ideas and views about the world, they walk the walk... Please just SIT DOWN your (not you're) argument is weak and YOU'RE (not your) just a big joke! now.. take some time to listen to 3 songs (LIVE) take the song "Seconds" from under a blood red sky- all about the the rhythm section- take Sunday Bloody Sunday (again under a blood red sky) The drums make that song.. and take where the streets have no name from rattle and hum (LIVE at sun devil stadium) and put any drummer and bass player against Larry and Adam and they will have a hard time keeping up.... U2 is all about stripping their music down to 3 chords and the truth- they want it to be as raw as possible to get the timeless feel to their sound.. but yea- you wouldn't understand that with your narrow view of Rock-n-roll... not even a clue...
Please keep the U2 reactions coming! I think it would be really interesting to see how much they change between tours! I think Annie would LOVE the live performance of An cat Dubh/Into the Heart (Vertigo: live from Chicago). There's some really sweet audience interaction half way through-and make sure you get the very end conversation between him and the boy! And I think also Love is Blindness (Zoo TV) is worth a watch!
@@GlitchintheMatrixMultiMedia or you open an extra U2 chanel :) I follow U2 my whole music life. There are so many good and fantastic bands and i hear many, but U2 is one step higher for me than the other. Because U2 is special for me
u2 played once great songs... later only rubbish.. under a blood red sky was for example one of the best live lps ever (1983)... but latest since 1990 only mainstream sht...
You need to tell Annie the story behind Mothers of the Disappeared. Then have her watch the performance of One/Mothers of the Disappeared in Chile after Pinochet was exiled, with the actual Mothers of the disappeared on stage. That's a kick to the gut.
I used to think U2 was “alright”....then I saw them in concert and I now LOVE U2! Saw them twice in concert; both were great. I’d say their 360 tour was the best concert I’ve ever been to.
100% agree. The middle section of 360 where they turned Wembley into the biggest nightclub on earth was the most elated I have ever felt. Absolutely unreal.
Totally agree, U2 live is probably the best show you can go to and the 360 was insane. Just to arrive at the stadium and see "the claw" was out of this world.
I love that you expose your daughter to so much real music. I also love watching you both just to see if she reacts to anything. So to see her react to one of my all time favorite songs is incredible to me. I think she might like Bad Companies, Burning Sky and oh it's been so long but when I figure it out I'll send it to you.
It is so nice to see that the new generation is introduced to U2 and loves it! I am a songwriter myself and I am very inspired by U2. Head over to my channel if you want to hear it and let me know in the comments what your think!
@@theflood2724 It's all subjective, just because they're not THE live band to you doesn't mean they're not to someone else. Yes Ed may hold the highest grossing live tour, hats off to him, but U2 were recently named the top touring artist of the decade by Pollstar. That's pretty significant if you ask me.
@@theflood2724 Kind of confused on your point - and forgive me if I missed your point, but Ed Sheeran may be it NOW, but U2 has been killing it for many many years. They are old dudes now and still bringing it. Sheeran probably would not hold a candle to U2 in their prime.
@@theflood2724 www.google.ie/amp/s/variety.com/2019/music/news/ed-sheeran-highest-grossing-tour-breaks-u2-record-1203289329/amp/?espv=1 read this article to understand why and how long and difficult it was for him to break U2 record! It took him twice the amount of shows over 2.5 years to break U2s record! That's CRAZY
I think this is the most expression I've seen on her. This is definitely one of my fave u2 songs and I absolutely love this version, I'm going to have to dl it now, thanks for showing me this one
This was such a powerful song from when I was young. Always loved it. Incredible how they update and keep it current. It's such a fantastic performance! Thank you for sharing this version.
This song was recorded in Paris in 2015 during a refugee crisis in Europe. It flows beautifully into Zooroopa, which displayed haunting imagery of the refugee crisis from Syria. And then segues into Streets. I highly recommend seeing those three songs in a row.
One thing I feel when you play so many songs that you refer to as either 'your mom's music' or 'your mom will love this' is, these videos aren't just sharing your love with your kids, but sharing your love with your wife! It really is very beautiful!
Next time start with the "October" intro with the Edge playing the piano as pictures of bombed out Syria are shown. Then it transitions straight into "Bullet The Blue Sky". Powerful stuff.
it's comparing what was going on in El Salvador during the 80's to sitting at home in "America" watching (and being ignorant to what's going on in the world) ABC NEWS, Hill Street Blues, and a Preacher on the gospel hour... (and not being able to tell the difference)..... and even the rest of the world in the end.... instead of fixing what was happening in their own countries at the time.. was just running into the arms.. of America... Ironic how times have changed....
@@boazbell38 The US played a big part in the civil wars in Central America in the 80's including El Salvador. America wasn't just sitting back being ignorant. They were backing the "freedom fighters" as the rebels were called. The jab towards the US in this song isn't about their ignorance, it's about how they wanted to appear as the savior from the evil communists all while running the drug operations covertly. No one remembers Iran-Contra? It mainly focused on Nicaraugua but it occured in most of Central America too.
The songs about the war in El Salvador in the 80’s, the edges guitar playing technique in the song represents the fighter planes in the sky above El Salvador dropping their bombs. Listen as the edge plays you really can hear the fighter planes flying above and diving down dropping their bombs and exploding. The edge said he needed the guitar to sound like that to emphasise and give the feeling of being there. My opinion he did exactly that I felt like I was there. What a genius the edge is and a super group U2 are. The best in the world. I come from ballymun where bono grew up and I seen them before they where famous walking past my house. You can call me biased but no band comes close to U2 when there playing live. Have another listen to the song with you daughter and concentrate on the edges guitar playing and you will hear those fighter planes and bombs. I would love to see your reactions this time now you understand the the pure genius of how they put their songs together. Please let me know why you think of you can’t video your reactions. It’s one of my favourites too.
Love how they use the giant video screens in their concerts, and with really cool content. And wow, what an awesome version of this song! Wish I was there
I barely missed out on being able to go to this tour and their Songs of Experience tour… and have now vowed to never miss a U2 tour ever again because they are always so brilliant.
I saw U2 'The Unforgettable Fire" tour in 83/84 and again in '87 on The Joshua Tree tour....hands down THE best concerts i have ever been to! If you get a chance to see them Live, you MUST go......the best ever!!!!! Great vid by the way.
I love to watch any live performance of any U2 song. I've watched them all, but it's always good to see your reactions. I'm 22 years old and U2 are my favorite band by far!! My first gig was Lisbon 2018, hope to see the boys again soon. Tell Annie that she's not the only young person who likes U2. Love from Portugal
Was lucky enough to see the first two "INNOCENCE+EXPERIENCE" shows in Vancouver and was blown away by this tour! Saw the opening of "The Joshua Tree" tour there as well. Then the year after saw the "EXPERIENCE+INNOCENCE" tour in Montreal. Same set up, different show altogether! Love watching you guys! Keep it up! 😁👍
I’ll be 50 this year and I’ve seen in concert so many classic bands in concert, U2 ( Joshua tree tour) and Pink Floyd ( momentary lapse of reason tour ) being the best every. It’s way cool seeing a teen into U2 kudos to her for that.
I love your love for U2! I’m on that same level!! It’s awesome that you’re showing your kids these artists and allowing them to figure it out themselves and expand their outlook. Also, can’t wait til you take her to a U2 concert, as amazing at the videos are they are nothing compared to to the live experience
U2 has a way of saying what needs to be said... before you know it needs to be said! Example: Their song Please - I first heard it in 2001 AFTER 911. Hearing it today, you would think it was written for that tragedy. Hearing it in concert in the months after 911 was powerful!
Don't know if anyone brought it up. Greg Carroll (the one handing Bono’s mic) died in an motorcycle accident in Dublin in 1986, believe he was running errands for Bono at the time. Their song One Tree Hill was written in memory of him.
Great job on these videos! If you're going to do more U2 for Annie, I would highly recommend showing her the theatrical side of their shows from the 90's. My favorite would be the entire Encore set from Zoo TV Live in Sydney. It's a 5 song set, but very entertaining. Also, it probably includes at least 2 songs she's never heard before, but showcases the band's range of style. Some highlights of note: 1. Bono finishing up his transformation to Mr. MacPhisto in his dressing room as the encore begins. 2. Adam Clayton nearly jumping out of his skin when the pyrotechnics shoot fake money into the air near the end of the first song, "Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car" (he missed the show the night before due to overindulgence). 3. "Off with the horns... on with the show!" during "Lemon" 4. Bono phoning for a cab because "he's tired and he wants to go to bed." 5. Strong performance of "With or Without You" even as Bono is clearly exhausted from the show. 6. An emotional guitar solo by Edge during "Love is Blindness" 7. Great closeout with Bono singing falsetto on "Can't Help Falling in Love" Another great clip to show Annie would be the opener to PopMart Mexico City. The energy they bring to start their shows really shines in this. I saw the tour opener for PopMart in Vegas '97, and we had no idea what it was going to be like. I always thought the opener to Zoo TV had a lot of energy so my expectations were high, but they really took it to a new level for PopMart.
Definitely need to do a video of the Zoo TV tour!!! That concert showcases 3 characters in 1 show. Starts with “The Fly”, classic Bono in the middle of the show (including an amazing version of Blue Sky), and “MacPhisto” at the end!!!
My dad called from SanFran to ask if we had heard of U2. We said yes, we knew them from Mtv' video countdown where With or Without You was in rotation. He said "They were in my cab last night and left me a huge tip. Great guys." I can only guess who sat in the passenger seat. My mom's response was to get us tickets to their concert at the Carrier Dome. Tickets were $10 each 1987.
I'm a huge u2 fan and have many discussions with my own kids about Bono's powerful performances. This man and his story of childhood on absolutely resonates with me 100%. In saying that you absolutely must get your daughter to view this one powerful tear jerking performance of....KITE AT SLANE CASTLE. IT WAS THE OF DAY/ OR AFTER HIS FATHERS FUNERAL. LARRY, THE EDGE AND ADAM WERE AMAZED THAT BONO WANTED TO GO THROUGH WITH THIS CONCERT. BETTER YET WATCH THE REACTION ON THE EDGES FACE WHEN BONO BONO BELTS OUT THE LINE "I'M A MAN I'M NOT A CHILD. I'M A MAN WHO SEES THE SHADOW BEHIND YOUR EYES" THIS PERFORMANCE IS ONE OF BONO'S MOST VULNERABLE MOMENTS. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO BETTER SINGER AND LYRICIST THAN BONO!
If I remember correctly, u2 were in Paris the week of the terrorist attacks in 2015,they had scheduled 4 shows and they completed 2. I think they had a show the following night, which they cancelled and instead they went to the sites of the attacks. I saw them a week later in Dublin, Bullet was a super-charged performance, all 3 gigs out of 4 i attended that week were. This DVD was filmed during the rescheduled Paris shows at the beginning of December, so some 20-25 days after the attacks
Have to second with a few people i spotted in the comments section, theyr Rattle And Hum version of this is at the absolute top for me. The Edge litterally sliding with his guitar, holding his guitar note super long, before they kick it off. The overall show factor and performance is "second to none!". Its from that same concert i have my favourite "Where The Streets Have No Name" version. Every member on absolute fire! Still, this gets messages across in a totally different way,got to give them that.
Bono actually wrote a letter to Billie Eilish near his 60th birthday (referencing her song ‘Everything I Wanted’) - explaining how the song influenced him. Thought you might like to know! There’s another 59 cool songs he thanked too!
The significance of this concert is up there. They , U2 were performing live in Paris on tour when terrorist struck Paris in multiple areas killing 130 people, the most significant attack was at the Bataclan theatre where 90 were murdered/slaughtered. U2 had to stop the performance and they promised they'd return to honor those who died that day. This was the return, the concert. If you can watch the whole concert it is very powerful.
This version is one of the best. The added lyrics with an older Bono having a discourse with his younger self is very powerful and honest. 'Have you forgotten who you are? You're Irish, but here you are smiling and acting with the powerful like you're really here for the powerless'. Very self critical and ' I feel like a fraud but I know that I'm not' an acknowledgement of his own criticism towards his activism and how he balances that while being a Rock Star and the contradictions that brings. It incorporates the theme that Songs of Innocence was exploring about looking back at the past and delving in deeper to see what shaped them in their youth. The conflict known as the troubles in Northern Ireland and Ireland is also a theme here and is throughout that album also. A superb version with maybe more meaning than the original version.
@@GlitchintheMatrixMultiMedia I love the band and have done since I was 11. My favourite band since then. Enjoying your videos and that version is one of the best for me man!
You should take a look at kite live at slane castle. The concert was filmed a week after bono buried his father and he dedicated the song to him. Very emotional and powerful performance
Your daughter is so cool! One suggestion: Show her One in this same show. Like Bono said: this song belongs to the audience now. Best regards from Brazil!!
This is such a powerful song musically it's intense. The message in all of their songs for the most part is intense. Whether you agree with it or not, I always have to give credit for the passion involved.
Check out Sunday Bloody Sunday from Rattle and Hum. It was shot the day of a bombing in Ireland. Very emotional, powerful version by Bono. One of the best.
Watching these is really making me yearn for Bono. I miss his humanity. With what is happening in our country today, politically, racially and healthy wise, we need people like him more than ever. He's such an inspiration. And, thank you for introducing your kids to these bands.
OMG I've never heard this version, some powerful introspection by Bono here into the Bono he has become, versus the Bono he was when he was younger. The Bono who had a burning passion, versus the Bono who flies in private planes to meet with world leaders is ineffective in comparison to the goals of the young burning passionate Bono. How old Bono has lost his edge due to all of the money he has, and then the journey takes him back to himself.
This tour started in Tulsa in 2017. It was awesome! Got to meet Bono & Edge. The time before was the 360 Tour, and the Zoo TV tour, all were so moving and inspired a whole generation. Gen X; we started the change and we happily see our younger generation finishing the changes.
Rattle and hum by far their greatest album, best song on album was never released as single it's silver and gold about apartheid in South Africa 🇿🇦 frickin awesome 👌
I remember first hearing this song on JT, and it was too strong for me. Soon it became my favorite song on the album. From watching your videos, your wife has excellent taste in music...which is to say it is the same as mine. :) I'd like to hear more from Annie on these videos, and don't worry about her face. Everything felt is not always expressed facially. Let her talk more, and we'll know how she feels. Don't apologize for being yourself.
