There’s something I learned from Zeus’ VA recently. If Athena hadn’t used his infidelity to get passed Hera, he wouldn’t have been as pissed. “You dare to- make me feel shame.” That’s what that line is referencing. I always thought it was because she beat him. No, it’s because of how she won.

19:13 Added Context for the High-Five in Gigi's Animatic: When Gigi did a short bit of Warrior of the Mind, Odysseus tried to go for the same thing, but Athena just ignored it. Her entertaining Telemachus here not only shows how Athena is willing to learn from her mistakes but also that she is gaining a bit of humanity.

I find it interesting how in most Calypso animatics she steps back and leaves herself wide open while announcing her god hood as if to say “come on try your luck I dare you”

I noticed that right before the music swells towards the end of God Games that the quiet piano briefly switches from Warrior of the Mind to a slowed down Legendary.

Fun fact jorge said that ares has a quick-thought as well, but as displayed in the song, it causes anger and I guess a headache😅

Has anyone noticed that in this is my goodbye Odysseus mentions not being able to sleep and now in we'll be fine Athena mentions not being able to sleep at night? Just an observation.

Anni's god representations lean a lot onto the symbols they were associated with - especially with animals. Like, you have the obvious Poseidon-horse, but in God Games she gives Zeus bull horns (myth of Europa and others), Aphrodite has her doves all around, Hera gets the peacocks, and Ares gets to be a snake!

So, about the whole thing of the God Games gods being on the Trojan side… no? Like, Apollo, Aphrodite, and Ares were. But Hera and Hephaestus were on the side of the Achaeans. Hephaestus even made armor for Achilles after Patroclus died. In fact, Zeus was on the side of the Trojans, which that, along with the whole thing with Paris, is the reason Hera is on the Achaean side.

I still think Athena's line of "I've no respect for bullies, those who impose their will. I've seen plenty enough to truly understand this kind of filth." Is also her acknowledging that she was in fact that. She was kind of a bully and imposed her will on Odysseus. Now that it's been a dace since that day, she's had a lot of time to think and realize "Oh, shit. I was kinda terrible to him. I'll be better with his kid."

0:59 I love this version of Telemachus because they gave him a sort of prissy look because he is a prince he's grown up privileged so he's not going to have the gruff look Odysseus has at the start.

And in the first god games animatic Athena (don’t know if this was intentional) was designed with piano-like aspects in her helmet and dress because that’s her assigned instrument in the musical. Just another little detail I thought the artist did really well.

I left this comment on AnniFlamma's video as well but I love how she designs each god Apollo's toga seeming to taper off like a snake (because he's tied to Python the monster who used to guard the oracle of Delphi) Hephestus's prosthetic leg The doves (not pigeons) surrounding Aphrodite because she's the goddess of love and doves represent love (Also peace and it's funny because she's dating the god of war) Ares's giant snake form (Didn't he have a dragon as a son) Hera's smaller horns because Zeus is associated with a bull which has larger horns so she has smaller ones and the way she's kept wrapped up while Zeus is pretty much half naked the whole time Zeus's bull horns and his hair/tail thing because he's associated with bulls but also his eagle design (not a phoenix) because he's also associated with eagles

Don't know if this is a commonly held interpretation or if its been confirmed but one of the things I got from "Love in Paradise" is when Odysseus is begging Calypso to let him close his eyes goes back to the beginning of the song where she comments on him saying Penelope's name in his sleep. From that I kinda came to the conclusion that since Calypso is a goddess who could theoretically keep Odysseus' body alive indefinitely (his mind is a VERY different story) from when she says he's hers for eternity, I think that since Odysseus calls for Penelope in his sleep and he's begging to let him close his eyes, Calypso might not have let him sleep at all for the seven years he was on her island. Hell Athena even says that he's been trapped without control of himself. So to sum up, I think Calypso might have not let Odysseus sleep at all for seven years out of jealousy, keeping his body healthy but as a result Odysseus' mental state rapidly deteriorated due to the lack of control over his own body, his mind being the only thing he could control now spending all of its time dwelling on every single mistake and death which leads him to finally begging Athena for help. Good for you if you had the patience to read that😃

A neat detail in Love in paradise by Mikuches , is when Calipso follows Ody , just before its revealed she is a goddess , Despite been knee high in water in the previous scene , (with the sunrise) , She walk on the water to catch up to him . But he doesn't see that because his back is turned . (So he gets shocked right after )

Not a phoenix its an eagle, Bull and eagle are Zeuses animal symbols while Heras are the peacock and Cow, also there are many culture that have the saying to be horned or adorned with horns means being cheated on so you can guess why Hera has horns, Ares has the drakon, Aphrodite has Doves

So let's see what we know about ETM's Odysseus: -He's relatively short and wiry, but stronger than any fully mortal human. He's also royalty. In fact, since his father passed, he's a literal short king. -He's been on a long voyage fighting someone else's war that he wouldn't have enlisted in, but he ended up enjoying it more than he should and embracing a side of himself that scares other people. -He'll sacrifice his own follower(s) if they're no longer useful. -He has a titan-sized ego in a human-sized body and his pride gets him into trouble he can't get out of on his own. -He was absent from his son's life practically from his birth until young adulthood. -Despite seeming like a compete sociopath at times, threatening his son or wife will cause him to show you that he cares - with extreme violence. -He's been to the afterlife and returned. While there, he may have undergone a harrowing transformation that changes how he's depicted going forward. -He'll make enemies of godlike beings, but needs his best buddy/bestest of friends (we'll see how it ends) to finish what he started. -When he returns from a long absence, people don't know if he's back to save them or destroy everyone. Conclusion: Odysseus is Vegeta.

There’s an animator named MaepleTea who made an animation for the very end of Love in Paradise. She is very good at ripping hearts out, and, even if it’s half the song, girl knocked it out of the park

I don't know if someone else said it, but I was kinda hoping you noticed the piano like theme on some of Athena's design on Mumder's video

32:05 not quite, she's irritated, yes. But that's the iteration of Ares' quick thought: Athena's quick thought implies the targets are focused and in a way, entranced. Ares has a strange after effect that makes the warrior more irritable and in some accounts, reckless. There's also some headcanons about how Ares doesn't truly believe that Odysseus is a coward, but more so that Athena doesn't play war like a game like she did with Diomedes in the Iliad. That is, Ares wanted to make sure Athena, as patron, cares for her followers as he cares for Aphrodite. Which puts his actions into a more wholesome yet very in character perspective

I think the appearance of telemachus being a kid is not helped that they make Athena twice the height of a normal adult

One thing that I like about Anniflama is that they take the mythology and the animals associated with the gods in their design. Athena has the Owl as her symbol, but she's also the Goddess that created Medusa and Gorgons who are snake people. Zeus has the eagle as their symbol, but Zeus is also the one who created the Minotaur by turning himself into a bull.

After wisdom we've got the vengeance saga which sounds absolutely delightful. Then finishing with the Ithica saga

Calypso did not cause those voices in Odysseuses head in the cannon animatic she was begging him not to kill himself and was trying to comfort him but happend say the things his mom and his two dead freinds said and that was enough to make those voices speak in his head to the point Odysseuse couldn't take it anymore and creid his heart out.

You gotta loves AnniFlamma's Athena they always have her as dainty and or skinny but they've made her quite muscular in this

I really love anniflamma's god games, I think the animation really ads the extra oomf it needed. The 'cannon' one is good, but there is just something about it that just fits.

31:51 one thing i really love about this animation is that Ares borrows Gigis design for MonsterOddy, which is fitting because while he has thrown away his morals, his style of conflict aligns much more with Ares philosophy than Athenas. Someone also said in a comment elsewhere an Areas idea that I liked. Telemachus would be a model citizen in Ares eyes. He fights even though he has no chance to win. The fights for the honor of his family. He fights to protect his mother. These are all ideals that Ares exemplifies, which means that him dispraging Telemachus isn't a personal attack, he's doing what brothers do best and pissing his sister off, but he is doing it to force her into his domain, fighting with your heart, not fighting with your mind

Not going to lie, I gasped when I heard you were watching SincerelyMaxx, Mikuchis, and Noir’s versions. There’s also a cute We’ll Be Find that’s come out recently by JENJO III. I absolutely adore these versions. And, of course, DuvetBox slaps with their animations. They have my favorite Thunder Bringer, Legendary, and Little Wolf animatics.

Telemachus is like 20 or 21 in "Legendary", not a kid. True, the stuff he's aspiring to experience is miserable, but the entire royal family of Ithaca is messed up. Telemachus and Penelope need therapy, and Odysseus is a lost cause. 🤣

Honestly, for what animations they've done so far, I genuinely believe that Duvetbox's takes on the songs, including the designs for all of the characters, are my absolute favorites. Anni and others have put out great stuff, make no mistake, but there's just something about Duvet's representation of each character, even the gods and their various forms, that just strikes me as a cut above. Hell, Duvetbox's take on Thunder Bringer was what got me first introduced to Epic the Musical and the rabbit hole that has been this magnificent project. I still think it might be my favorite take on Zeus I've ever seen in any non-Disney media (the distinction of Disney's here because it's take on Greek myth was borderline alien compared to other versions and the actual myths).

The guy that did the animation for the livestream's "Little Wolf" fight is actually working on making a video game of Epic.

i think i brought it up on open arms when mort and casper did their reaction. but ares was partly humanized because his face was covered in the song until the moment he showed concern for athena. he was fine blocking athena from her goal of helping oddy but killing her was twenty steps too far for the war god

Jorge also has a sister who calls herself his and Epic's #1 fan, so it'd be fucked up if he didn't include her in the future. Oh my gods, if he added Odysseus's sister into Epic, that would be an extremely uncomfortable song. Eurylochus was her husband. I like to think that she learns what he did to her husband (maybe from Poseidon telling her, harkening back to Zeus's "The gods will make him know") and puts on armor, then stabs Odysseus, bringing the "vision" from "The Horse and the Infant" to fruition.

"Love in Paradise" I think tops my favourites list right now. Calypso treating Odysseus like a pet or object, crying at the end because her toy is broken and not being able to understand a man beyond wits end. The fact that if it were anyone else who'd wash ashore on her island they'd have lived that life with Calyspo while for Odysseus a paradise is hell because of his determination to get home.

Antinuous looks absolutely deranged at the start of the fight and the fact that after defeating telemachus with one hand behind his back after the throw he looked like he was bowing. Absolutely amazing 👏

I want you to note something. The moment Calypso says "Come back to my Open Arms" is when Polities sings his song and then the others follow suit. Calypso accidentally triggered him and made everything come rushing back.

A comment I also left under the original video by Anniflamma: A detail i really like are those shots of the other gods when Zeus is powering up make his strike against Athena. The children are standing to one side and look troubled. Hera is standing on the other side, isolated and with a harsh expression. She has endured his rath many times, was even put in chains once (and in some version Athena and Poseidon were the co-conspirators in the act that led to this punishment). We saw in the earlier parts of the animatic how she towered over Athena at first in her less restraint aspect, as Zeus habitually does. So it it seems natural and is a nice touch to have react so differently from the other gods present. One of the animals associatedwith Ares were indeed snakes, and as Fate fan you might know that some interpretations say that the connection between Medusa/the Gorgon(s) and Athena ans thus snakes goes deeper than just the narrative in Ovid's Metamorphosis, where she cursed Medusa. Some think that both stem at least in part from a Minoan goddess, Atana that is connected the depictions of women handling snakes. I also dig how Athena moving closer to Zeus is drawn in silhouettes that evoke the style of greek pottery paintings (e.g. black-figure ceramic).

You should watch Suffering and Scylla by Ani TigerFly, it's more violent but so gorgeous

The Trojan Horse wasn't Odysseus being a trickster, it was cowardly. He killed Trojan soldiers in their sleep.

AnniFlamme's been making God Games piece by piece for some time now. I was really anticipating the completed product, and I was not disappointed in the slightest.

I think the livestream Calypso was meant to seem like she's trying to help him but bad at it because she wants to seem that way. In all honesty, she wants him as her own.

Gods aren't hard to kill, they're impossible to kill. Calypso is technically a titan, but she's right, goddesses can't die. Hell, even Chronos is still technically alive, just diced in Tartarus.

Antinous doesn't get his comeuppance in the next saga. You'll have to wait for the final saga, which is the one after that.

Perhaps she won't be sorry for loving him but she just wises he loved her that way

Before the beginning of "Love in Paradise", Athena has no idea what Odysseus has been through in the 7 years since "My Goodbye", so it would seem odd for her to go to help Telemachus because she knows she can't help Odysseus, because she _doesn't_ know she can't yet. It also seems odd for her to be remorseful before learning what he has gone through, considering she has nothing to feel bad about without knowing what happened after. He insulted her. She had every right to leave him. It just sucks that he failed to realize that she and his crew were his luck, and his luck ran out three years later.

I can't watch this right now but I will say one thing. It might not be to your taste at all but I'd highly recommend that if you have any interest in palaeontology at all you watch (Probably on your own time, I'm unsure on if it would fit your channel at all) a video essay by the channel Oliver Lugg called The Mass Extinction Debates: A Science Communication Odyssey. I watched it a while back and I remember really liking it and I'd just personally like more people seeing palaeontology things.

If you like nerdy music, I cannot recommend Janani K Jha's (Aphrodite) music enough. She's currently working on a concept album inspired by Ancient Greek stories. She's amazingly talented vocally and lyrically. Although, lyrically shouldn't come as a surprise, she did become the youngest competitive pun champion.

Purplesky's little wolf and love in paradise short are really good, and the odysseus breakdown they animated hits me really hard cause i've had some where i've 1 to 1 acted how they had animated it and it hits me in the feels every time. also BrittPowPixel's god games and love in paradise are also delightful.

It hurts so much to see how Zeus treats Athena, especially considering she's supposed to be his favourite daughter...

30:24 well, it isn't that this is all the gods on the Trojan Side, but most of them are...Zeus, Apollo (and Artemis and their mother, who are sitting this one out), Aphrodite (Not only because Paris chose her to be the Hottest Goddess, but she also had her son Aeneas in Troy), and Aries were on the side of Troy. Hera and Hephaestus were on the side of the Achaeans (Greeks) with Athena. Hera at least because she not only had her offer turned down by Paris, but also the whole Prophecy that a Trojan (Aeneas) would found an empire that would destroy her favorite city, Carthage.

The gods that participated weren't all on the trojan side though. Hephestaus and hera were on the Greeks' side with Athena, while Apollo, Aphrodite and Ares were on the Trojan side. As for Zeus, it's kinda complicated.

Hera was on the side of the Aecheans, not Trojans. But Zeus has to include his wife otherwise she gets pissed. Hepheastas also makes Achilles armour so kinda Aechaen? Not super partisan though. Aphrodite, Area and Apollo though, very very trojan.
