Almost all of what you say makes sense to me. “False self” vs “True Self” is a concept I have understood for many years already. It’s described perfectly in this verse: “They [i.e. humans] seek not the Lord to establish his righteousness, but every man walketh in his own way, and after the image of his own god, whose image is in the likeness of the world, and whose substance is that of an idol, which waxeth old and shall perish in Babylon, even Babylon the great, which shall fall.”

Wow! Answered so much for me. A spiritual spark ! I will listen again to understand a bit more as I find another layer is added to my spiritual life is added each time. Thank for your wisdom and guidance.

The practical behind this is knowing when people hurt you, persucute you, devalue you, its not their true selfs. Its there Sin selfs/selfish. And Its not their fault... They dont see what you see, and i place my bets they havent tasted Gods unconditional love!

So that’s the New Testament, psalms, proverbs and prophets straightened out. Would be a nice 10 parter if you could really take a deep dive into the tightly woven cloth of history, allegory and dialectical revelation in the Old Testament. Especially since large parts of the church are looking forward to a reversion from Paul’s verbally heaped burning coals and Jesus’ mouth-sword back to old time blood n’ guts glory when Christ returns.

Hi John, Thank you very much for this series. ❤ It really resounds in my heart. Looking forward to meet you in Germany. I really hope that YOU can help me understand the following:😅 So, if I understood it right, the good news is, that everyone already is „saved“. We just need to wake up to it. If everyone in the end is in heaven, why bother sharing the gospel? Why try to be a „good“ christian and, btw, who is a „good“ christian? Is there anything like being saved? Did I really need the sinners prayer? Is baptism really necessary? And what for a gospel do I share?!? Did I get it right, that even If I recognised that Jesus died and restored everything, there is no „out-of-hell-card“ for me, as I need to be refined (go through hell) in areas in my Iife which I have not „tackled“ successfully in my life on earth? Or is this all done when I realise that Jesus accounted for everything? There is this Pauline Verse which says that If I don’t have love in me everything is nothing. I for myself think every single day that I don‘t have enough love for the people around me. Is it enough when I believe that Jesus is the one who loves true-fully and I ask him to help me love the ones around me?

Love all you say about identity but can't go as far as universalism. It removes the need for faith and why would we even do ministry if it's all the same in the end?

Also, I do hope your comments about a cultural identity won't contribute to a pressure for queer saints to try and prop up an "ex-gay" false self persona - as if acknowledging one's actual embodied reality is somehow incongruent with who they are ontologically in Christ.

If the Bible was a puzzle, it seems (I use the conditional because I'm still exploring this topic) as though the only way to fit each piece together rightly, without cutting off edges here or adding sides there, one must at least consider universal reconciliation as the logical resolution. If you take the literal Scriptures (which is the only way to receive a message of Divine origin), you are forced to deal with many passages leading to this conclusion, Colossians 1:20 being one of many. Otherwise, you have to bring in man's interpretation, which is the fallible defining the meaning of the infallible, an exercise that is beyond hubris. For example, this passage means A so the conclusion must be B. In doing so, many seem to assign meaning in order to reach a conclusion of choice, rather than simply allowing truth to guide them from A to B to C. If an employer sends an important message to their workforce, he doesn't want them to interpret that message. To do so, would be to undermine his intent and to conclude he isn't capable of stating what he means to begin with. Isn't that offensive? If it was me, it would be so, and I wouldn't be happy. He "wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." (1 Timothy 2:4). Does God achieve what He wants? Well, "In him we were also chosen,[a] having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory." (Ephesians 1:11-12). He works out EVERYTHING in conformity with the purpose of His will. Praise God, He is Awesome! Baruch Ata Adonai!
