In front of a crowd gathered in St. Peter's Square, archbishop Leonardo Sandri, substitute for the Secretariat of State, officially announces the death of Pope John Paul II, which occurred at 9:37 pm on April 2, 2005, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace.
