He was not wrong. It was the absolute worst year for men's u.s Soccer at the time. It set back u.s mens Soccer 20 years back. U.s did not make the world cup.
I don't think Buck actually saw it happen - his sidekick in the booth said that Moss shot the moon to the crowd and I can only imagine that Buck thought Moss really pulled his pants down. It's the only logical explanation to how he reacted.

Lalas was part of a generation that put the US as a viable challenger for Mexico's spot as the top dog in CONCACAF. A generation that compensated with balls and passion the lack of domestic support and the apparent lack of talent. After retirement, he saw how US soccer grew steadily from being a pushover to becoming an animator, both in the World soccer scope, and in the domestic scope. He then had to behold how some dudes with not a dime of his passion were failing _(and ultimately failed)_ to qualify to the World Cup, something that had became a gimme for the US.
what i got from it was, alexi lalas was fed up with the current us squad (at the time) under performing. he was tired of his former team not making it.

@@nicholastrudeau7581It's round one of the playoffs. The league/networks are trying to squeeze 4 games in per night, with the widest TV viewership possible. It's an impossible task, getting nationwide viewership of four 2.5 hour games after work at 5 pm separated by 3 hours east to west coast. Next best solution is to double up the games, have 2 time slots, maybe a 6 pm central and 9 pm central. It's really the only way if you aren't going to have 4 simultaneous games in primetime.

It was 2004, when people were still sensitive to this kind of stuff (or at least pretended to be). Now we see and hear that kind of shit on TV all the time, so no one cares. Nowadays, we only get fake upset over things like presumptive use of pronouns, or people daring to utter the name of the president's son...so I guess we've come a long way.

I think thats a way of skirting regulations. I know a lot of radio/broadcast censorship is based on context. If he says nuts and bolts, he can get away with claiming it was not meant as a sexual reference

In fact, when Trinidad and Tobago beat the USMNT to prevent them from qualifying for the World Cup, you can see his face...he was PISSED. 😡😡😠😠 Probably even now he's pissed, because for him and Alexi failure to get into the World Cup is embarrassing and inexcusable -- with all the resources the U.S. Soccer Federation has to tap into there's no reason not to continuously put a team -- not necessarily great, but good enough to at least make every World Cup.
