I work in the startup sector, and sadly, too many tech startup companies do this too. They're more concerned about making their website & apps look sexy, hiring 'influencers', promotion, slick videos, SEO optimization, than actually building a useful product.
Because the expectations of "quality" music and "gourmet" food, and the "beautiful" villas were never reached and the organizers ended up getting their asses kicked.
Garden. whats really funny is that they are already blaming this fyre festival fiasco on russia hackers & putin!!! somebody needs to get a production company and cameras to the island asap, cause this is the next big reality show "festivals gone bad" with hipster gluten free vegans fighting each other over who gets to eat the piglet in this promo video... id pay good money to watch something like that! it would be like election night all over again!
I don't think anything will match this. There are plenty of disastrous events that get cancelled last minute. The fact that this actually went ahead despite every band pulling out and an extreme lack of facilities is absolutely astonishing
@@markhalim2411 i just watched it on Netflix, almost peed myself laughing when he said that. Made me grab my dictionary to refresh my brain on what mogul meant.
and also the head contractor tht hired people to work...I think tht he is being hunted bcoz the workers tht are under him didn't get paid...poor guy, he himself didn't get paid....
Don't worry. Billy will make them all whole again. He's pulling down almost twenty cents an hour in a federal joint. At that rate, he'll have them all paid off.......in the year 2319.
John Smith no a 1 day ticket with nothing included was 1,200. A 3 day ticket included the accomadation and food for 12,000. so 12,000 for 3 days in the bahamas is expensive especially when it turns out to be a scam
Yes, and also manage to get plumbing, clean drinking water, electricity, villas, bars, catering, waste management, transportation, advanced stages with proper sound, lighting, and effects completed before a year's time.
@blackflag 321 That's why they didn't hire him, the team wanted to be in la la land and not listen to anything that could cause serious issues to the festival.
I just got done watching the whole series of Inventing Anna. And her staying at his place for a while after partying , Billy asked her to invest in it, A con trying to con a con. Lol
@@hamishwells2877 - The claim that Escobar owned the island wasn't false. However, the claim that Fyre bought the island patently was. Billy and chums spent months dicking about on the island originally owned by Escobar but the current owner at the time got tired of them, chucked them off with only 3 months to go and that's why the Fyre disaster festival ended up in Great Exuma.
It was good. Hulu has one too. Everyone knew about it when it happened but I don't think most knew about what went on behind the scenes. The founder was straight up nuts.
On balance, I prefer the Hulu documentary tbh Roach. I liked the Netflix documentary but it's slightly tainted by the fact it was made by Fuck Jerry. The Netflix documentary was very effective about what happened on the ground and why the festival was a disaster but the Hulu documentary was much more successful in showing why people fell for it and uncovering how much of a scam artist Billy McFarland truly was and what his motivations were. . The Hulu documentary also showed that McFarland was a scammer from an extremely early age and that his other company, Magnises was a steaming pile of turd based on lies. The interview with McFarland also showed him to be a compulsive liar and someone who has never been held responsible for his fuck ups until now. This is why the Hulu doc is better.
Still better than nothing. Proves that these millennials are not grateful. Yes, I know they got scammed but I rather take it done starve myself to death.
*wastes 1200 dollars and almost starves to death on an island* "Wow, these millennials are so ungrateful. When I was their age I paid 1500 dollars and the island didn't even have food"
Well said man. Instagram and Facebook and most social media applications are just advertising billboards to hoover up more and more money... This is painfully obvious that it’s bull. Thing is, the more money you have the easier it is for you to be duped :) The rich of this planet don’t live a better lifestyle than any of us, but they sure pay for it! Hahahaha. Pay more for the same shit... that’s all being rich is these days... They don’t get it yet
the thing is that nobody who used to work for fyre cares about this account, they never got paid so why turn off the comments or put down this video if nobody pays you to do it :D
This is a great example of how social media influencers can manipulate things at a massive scale. They get paid and talk about anything that they don't even understand.
Day 4: We've started forming tribes. Ezekial is our leader and has so far done an admirable job of keeping us safe. Tomorrow morning I have to go and scavenge for cheese...may God be with me
This promo looks like - "Festival for rich kids who arrive by boat with jetskis, and f*** runup models who want to taste fun live from instagram with music in the background"
IKR? Had no idea they moved islands. I couldn't believe it when they clipped out the rest of Great Exuma to make the Fyre site look like a tiny secluded island!!!
Yes but it would have been even worse if they would have stayed in that remote island. At least they end up near Sandals and there were a few houses around.
Vulture Vic I felt really sorry for Andy (the gay guy) and the local workers. I was so invested watching this just now I felt like I was stressed out for everyone except Billy and Grant. This reminded me of the Simpsons episode of the monorail salesman.
+ Vulture Vic - On balance, I prefer the Hulu documentary tbh Vulture. They're both sufficiently different so it won't feel like you're watching the same thing. I liked the Netflix documentary but it's slightly tainted by the fact it was made by Fuck Jerry. Chrono Cross it keeps not working out for me even when i buy small things like gummy bears for ur hair or detox tea to foundation to trips to ny it has NEVER worked out for me n im so over it
Billy McFarland mocked about the "average poor american citizen" while being one lol. He didn't had shit and he ends up broke and in jail. I love happy endings.
Well, look at the clientele... Shit-for-brains know nothings. This is exactly what CA would turn into if it really did leave the union. They'd be back at the doorstep like a struggling teen who moved out because "You can't tell me what to do!" Failure theater
California has the 6th largest economy in the world. You're basically the same as these numbnuts if you think think Instagram-crazed millennials represent any substantial part of the state's population.
"Once owned by Pablo Escobar" Imagine thinking highlighting the island was once owned by a killer was good promotion, it's like saying "Come to Germany, once owned by the Nazis" lol.
Makes you wonder what kind of shitshow it would have turned into if they were able to keep it on the smaller island, because the Netflix doc brings up that there was no way to fit that many people on the small island. Not to mention, they still had none of the infrastructure, and it would have been even harder to do it on Norman's Cay.
@@rockerseven I think it would be more catastrophic. At least in the other island they had homes and local population. Imagine stranded in island which no power, food and water . No means to return to their homes
@@mrcritical6751 I think it was too late to undo the Pablo Escobar thing by the time the owners were like "No." But yeah, I think if they came clean as to the obstacles they were facing and just postponed the event, as opposed to faking it 'til the end, they could have still had something while restoring *some* of their credibility for future ventures.
@@laurendaryani4893 It wouldn't work. They had priced themselves too low and had to use high interest loans to cover the shortfall. They offered a weekend in the Bahamas at $500 to $1500 food and music included when the most basic tourist package starts at $2000.
@@akshatprakash871 @akshat prakash Maybe they were expecting to get high economies of scale and savings for having thousand of attendands: bulk purchasing of supplies can reallly go a long way reducing costs. Thus I think it was feasible, but somehow something failed....
Just to think just for them saying that corny ass line “once owned by Pablo Escobar” they got kicked off the original island 😂 either way it was gonna be a failure.
It wasn't even owned by Escobar himself, but the point is, the current owners of the island stated they could rent it so long as they didn't mention it's previous connection to the Medellín Cartel. So what did they do? Of course they shoved Pablo's name right up there in the very first piece of promo material. McFarland really was a fuckin' idiot.
@@ladyphelps21 *spits drink* AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAH THAT'S THE MOST BULLSHIT STATEMENT I'VE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE! AHAHAHHAAHAHhA
Marc Weinstein, in the Netflix documentary, stated pretty clearly that it was not possible on Norman's Cay, for that many people. Although he did mention that Billy originally was approached by a firm that it's pretty much a "festival-in-a-box" that could do it for $50 million. Billy fired them due to the cost and planning. If I remember correctly, they also wanted the cruise ship setup, not villas on the island, just like that pilot envisioned.
@@CuteLilEldritch1010 I don't disagree. But a huge ego is what made him think of this good (in my opinion) idea in the first place, a lot of ego is a good thing, too much ego is a bad thing. He flew too close to the sun.
Was that "Pablo Escobar" stuff really necessary? As a colombian I'd say NO, and not only because I'm tired of statements such as this one, but because they aren't true. Escobar NEVER owned an island in the Bahamas. Glad they got what they deserved... their luxury meals made of bread and lettuce and stuff...
Yes, you are right, Lehder did. (Under the same logic, we can't say that Melania Trump is the president of the U.S.) My point is, that statement from Fyre Festival is not entirely accurate.
No, he did not, my friend. As a colombian I've done a lot of research on the Medellin Cartel (in fact I had to live in that very same era when I was a kid), and I can say that he personally didn't own that island.
Wife and I went. Was bad, but we made the best of it. With all the chaos, her and I managed to pay a family to live with them for a week. Turned out to be great. Still in contact with them and are going back to see them in may.. silver lining, their son was on the electrician crew who got screwed.. we were happy to help supplement his labor losses..
It will, to archive video takes quite a bit of infrastructure, not to mention the comments and metadata. Unless an archive forms up a fond about the event, I doubt it will stay. Around 90% up of the internet is already lost, archival techniques for the web are always improving but it's costly and there are challenges which only become apparent decades after the event.
lowest price tickets were around 100-200 bucks, so rich is an understatement and 12,000 for going to a wonderful place was seeming promising, i mean usually it's too much, so much above that. then we found out the truth
The tickets were usually $1,200. Press for some reason added a zero on headlines over and over. Many people got it as cheap as $500 or even lower. Considering it’s a 2 week package to the Bahamas the how low was actually should of been iffy. Many week packages can be almost $2000.
John Smith there is evidence. It was on the website, and shit, and people who actually went to the damn thing have stepped up and said it was 100-200 bucks lowest price. and lets see 100-200 USD Price + "Luxury" island. People bought into it. Wiggly Fungus is right, 1,200 was an option(iirc it was the almost highest?) but it wasn't the lowest. People got it below 500 bucks
The only winner in this situation is a friend of mine from that island i met time after this shit show told me once he saw a shit ton of hungry tourist wend and made some ham and cheese sandwiches and soda started selling them 3$ piece he made like 4000$ on one night what a legend
this promo doesn't even look like on for a music festival. more like an bikini ad. this ad prob cost more than the actual festival itself. yeah i did the math. true story.
I feel bad for the unpaid workers rather than the 'influencers' (I use the word very loosely) who went to the event. They should be paid more than compensation for this disaster they had to take part in.
I seen the Netflix movie and there was some nasty people there, one dude sprung to mind as he boasted how he slashed tents all around his and his mates tents so they could be left alone. 90% of those who went, are all social media influencers who are so far up their own arse, they don't care about other people's misfortunes, well they experienced it that weekend and the nasty side still showed up.
Wait, so those rich kids paid thousands of Dollars to party on a tropical island only to be left stranded without food, water and shelter? Jarule Stalin essentially build a gulag and had the rich kids pay for it. *Soviet anthem plays in background*
If they wanted to go to prison, the could have gone to one of the thousands right here in the usa where we imprison more than any other planet on earth. We don't need no stinking Stalin references, we're number one!
