Need, need, need this. Is the 2HP Eurorack module basically the same thing? To be honest these features should have been in the original device. A real shame Moog didn't put these in! Oh well, Good job we have some creative people filling in the gaps for us ;-)

Hi, 1 V/oct CV is not the main point of the MAFD. After all, there are many MIDI to CV converters that already do that. But there is also a version of MAFD that does have 1 V/oct CV. sonoclast.com/products/mafd-luxe-midi-to-cv-eurorack-module/

Just purchased and was using Moog's 3.5mm to Midi... which didn't work... assuming it wasnt TRS... used provided cord and works great... Very cool addition to the DFAM... I love the DFAM but was starting to feel a bit limited previous to buying the MAFD...

Yes, the MAFD 2hp works with a Type B TRS adapter, and Moog seems to use Type A ones. Label them with a sharpie to keep them straight! :-) There is more info about the different kinds of MIDI TRS here: minimidi.world

how does this work? is it just advancing the clock until it reaches the desired step at such a high rate that we don't notice?

That’s the only explanation that makes any sense to me. AFAIK The adv clock input just responds to a trigger. But I would love to know the answer

So essentially this let's you trigger any step of the dfam independently of the device itself from an external midi device?

Yes, exactly. (Sorry for the delay. Somehow missed being notified.) MIDI can be over the standard DIN plug or as a MIDI USB device.

I guess this works by quickly sending additional adv clock trigs to play each step? If you want to play step 8 it have to count 8 times. How is the latency involved in this? Thanks

Thanks! The 2hp one replaced the one shown in this video with an identical feature set. The 2hp is a eurorack module, but it can also be bought with a case and power supply that mounts neatly to the side of a DFAM. In other words, it can be used without a eurorack case and power supply. @@Sonoclast OK cool, thanks! vDo you always have to reset the DFAM sequencer position when you stop the external clock (in my case, a deluge), or is it irrelevant - as in, the note information from your DAW/ external sequencer always triggers the correct sequence position on the DFAM (Hope I explained that well!)?

@@simonmorton3746 No, the manual sync lasts as long as it’s all powered on. Also it defaults to middle C as the first step. So if you turn it on with adv/clock already connected and hit run on the DFAM before sending MIDI notes, then it won’t require the manual sync step.

can you control two DFAMs with the split to adv/clock cable?

Have not tried. It might work. (It depends on a DFAM's Adv/Clock input impedance being high enough that putting two in parallel doesn't overly degrade the input signal.) The two DFAMs' steps would be locked in sync though--you wouldn't get to have two different patterns running.

Sure, in a general sense, the same things can be done with dozens of different synthesizer models, but only a DFAM is a DFAM.

Will it work the same way with a Beatstep Pro as it does with the keys on a keyboard?

Yes, it will. (MIDI is MIDI. Does not matter where it comes from.)

@@teddyjones3652 Hi, yes, a DFAM with a MAFD can be sequenced with MIDI notes from a Beatstep Pro on a single MIDI channel. The Beatstep Pro only has one MIDI output from what I see. Not familiar with the drm1, but if it also needs MIDI from the Beatstep, you would need to use the drm1's MIDI THRU port or a MIDI router/splitter to get another MIDI connection out of your Beatstep.

Yes, it should work with OS v1.50 and above based on the FAQ on Elektron's site. The MAFD allows driving the DFAM sequencer with MIDI notes. www.elektron.se/support/?connection=analog-rytm-mkii#resources "FAQ Can I use the Analog Rytm as a MIDI sequencer? From OS version 1.50 and above, all sequencer tracks can be set to send sequencer data through the MIDI OUT or USB ports to control external, MIDI equipped, gear. Each track sends note on/off and velocity data over MIDI."

What is "the midi box"? The MAFD shown in this video is an older version. The latest version (MAFD 2hp) has all the same functionality in a more common form factor.

Can you use this to just sync the dfams clock with a master clock without triggering it?

There's a fuller featured version (shown here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9FqKvvXOAzE.html ) that supports MIDI clock, but this one ignores MIDI clock messages. If you are using a DAW or other MIDI sequencer to generate the master clock, simply looping the eight MIDI notes over and over would make the DFAM "run normally" in time with the master clock.

hm great device but price is a little bit high for me as i`m from europe. payed 450,- for the dfam so more than 1/4 for this device is little bit to much for me. better lower the price and sell much more of this little thing.^^
