I am a ac technician with 37 years experience. I recommend you have your evaporator coil and blower wheel cleaned. And clean your air filter once a week. I recommend once you have had them cleaned. I recommend you run your ac on low cooling. That will dehumidify the air better, and make the air coming out colder.

great info ... we rented an rv years ago, summer in N Mexico. Air wouldn't cool. Thankfully my FIL was doing a long stay where we were visiting & having 2 new units put in his rv. The guy doing that was happy to look for us. Everything was stopped up with debris.

Ok, here’s my 2 cents: I have a 42 footer that resides in central Texas. I ended up adding a third a/c in the 14x14 space above the kitchen. If you can’t afford that, starting early with the cool down is a must along with the Reflective window coverings. I also noticed that the manufacturer did such a a poor job of of sealing the plenum area AND the openings around the inside roof duct vents! I silver taped the Shiza out of all of that! I had leaking of cold air into the attic from nearly all vents. Also, an extreme thing I did which is what the Hanks did was, RV AIRFLOW SYSTEM! Worth the money! When I pulled the a/c’s up from the roof because we have whisper quiet units, I got to look down in the plenum area. HOLY COW! There were open areas up there as well that need more silver tape! After we did all of the above, we don’t use our fridge and just hang select meats from the roof inside the rv cause it’s so cold!!! HAHAHAHA

Okay, now I understand why some people with short travel trailers pitch a tent over them. I originally thought these people didn't like to get wet but it turns out they're using the tent to super-cool the RV. Plus it has the benefit of reducing stress on your AC system...

PS: a tip I learned from the sport Formula One: the cars have no radiators, so how can they run the engines in a hot climate like Bahrain? They attach a blower fan to the air intake and drop in a removable basket filled with ice. Every so often, a mechanic swings by and dumps a small cup of ice to keep the basket full. This chills the air before blowing it into the engine so it won't overheat as the car idles.

We have been camping for 14 years now. We just installed RV airflow systems in our AC unit and what a game changer. Our bedroom used to turn into a sweatbox on the hot days but now it's cool as a cucumber. Why did we wait so long. The difference in air flow movement throughout the whole camper is night and day.

Love your show. We went to Air flow June 25th. Couldn't wait to try it out. But as we were leaving Indiana to come home to Ohio . We might have been 20 or so miles from air flow . When a woman went left to center to prevent from hitting the back end of a semi. Hitting our new truck not even 3000 miles on it and completely totaled our 32 ft fifth wheel. We were not hurt. But she didn't have any insurance. Great right. They had to pry the camper off the hitch. She hit so hard the front wheel of the camper was lodged behind the 2nd wheel. Her bumper was wedged underneath the camper. A hot hot mess. To make the story short we losted our beautiful fifthwheel. And our new truck was damaged. Paying deductibles for both. But God must have a different plan for us. And He saved us from being hurt. Including the woman who hit us. I would still highly recommend Air flow. They are great. Even though we didn't get to experience how it worked. But what a great team. Thank you for all your videos and laughs. We ❤ you both. God bless.

We buy the material for the internal air conditioner filters at Walmart. It is one piece of foam that you cut to fit your air conditioner. It is about $3.00 and you get about 5 -6 filters out of one package.

We’ve lined the back of all our cabinets and areas inside that are up against the side walls with reflectix. This has helped a lot. We haven’t used reflectix on the windows because our manufacturer said it can damage the window seals and the window glass.

Just be aware that they recommend an "air gap" for this stuff to work "properly". I think it's about an inch of air space. We have it in the windows of the bunkhouse because the kids were complaining about the light so early in the morning and the heat baking them 🤣

As others have commented, we just recently painted the black AC shrouds and the refrigerator vent cover white. I also just did our two AC units following a couple of different DIY air flow diverters. It has been very hot here in the northeast, and one of our AC units isn't currently working. I can say the main area AC kept our entire 36 foot 5th wheel very cool, and the fridge stayed cold too, so those improvements definitely worked. We also velcroed plexiglass to our screen door so we can leave the door open while heating or cooling. I would like to try that reflectix in the cabinets now as I've seen those hints on YT.
@ladikmk
@ladikmk 2 месяца назад
I've also seen that suggestion for installing reflectix on what would be the exterior wall panel INSIDE interior cabinets. It makes a lot of sense & would help with both retaining the cooler air from AC use, or increasing heat retention in colder climates.

On the external refrigerator fans. I was under the impression that the fans should be installed on the top panel and forcing air out. (Chimney effect) Taking the hot air out not pushing air in. A trick I found on getting the seal flaps out properly is to use a hot dog/marshmallow skewer stick, put the prong under the flap on the bottom and run it up as far as needed. That will pull the flap out and you can do it from the ground. Box fan to circulate air and max air ceiling vents to pull initial heat out are both great ideas. We always do both.
@ricklong3218
@ricklong3218 2 месяца назад
I did the "DIY A/C MOD" and also taped up our bedroom air dump and smoothed out the air flow from it. I actually had to point the vent towards the wall away from the bed because the extra cold air made me sick after a couple days! I also pointed the vent in kitchen towards the door, so when it is opened, it pushes cold air out instead of letting hot air in. Best bang for your buck is AIR SEALING! Our front storage is under the top half of our bed and also the warmest/coldest spot. We have a 2020 Alpha Wolf 29QB-L. I just started caulking inside the cubby because with the door open you could see light from under the bed when looking inside. Next is insulation under there and panels to cover the 1x2's. I have also started sealing all the drain openings and wire openings where they come through the floor under cabinets. You don't need a 2 inch hole to run a 1/2 inch wire through it 🙄

Thanks! It's 125+ in palm springs. It's dry heat so the addition of a portable swamp cooler works amazing with the A.C. it keeps my A.C. Bill down by 50 percent at least. I would have to use both of my A.C. to keep it close to what I acheive with just one A.C. and my portable swamp cooler. It would be unlivable without it. I would also recommend a inverter A.C. I just bought one 2 weeks ago and it is amazing it also doubles as a heater, and has a dry mode. The A.C. drys out the air causing evaporative cooling and the watter has exllent thermal compasity it dose the same when it adds water to the dry air.

As always, great video guys! RV’s are humidity magnets. If you don’t do something to keep the moisture out it will get everywhere. Like even in the walls. We have done everything you have mentioned. Ill add, make removable vent covers for the heating ducts, remove all the drawers from you hutch, i bet you will find a very large hole behind them and you can see right into your storage area. We made a removable piece of foam board and seal that spot off, reason for that is if you camp in the cold and need your furnace that hole into your storage space is for the furnace return. Once we sealed the spot, and with all the other upgrades we did just like you did, our A/C works less, wayyy less. Example, gulf shores Alabama a few weeks ago, heat index at 112. We were cool inside at 67 and the A/C's were cycling on/off about every 20 minutes and we own a GD295rl 150 series. We dont have all the wall insulation like regular campers. If you are not running a dehumidifier 100% of the time in a camer, even when not camping, you are asking for issues. Side note to dehumidifiers, i just recently encapsulated and sealed my crawspace at our home last winter and installed a whole house dehumidifier, WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE. We have never had an electric bill less than $230 in the summer over the last 9 years we owned the house, now we haven't been over $100, in Tennessee. Making the A/C's work more efficient is key. Seal everything off you can and run dehumidifiers

I'm going to try a dehumidifier for sure. We keep our shades closed, awning out (when we're present, never when we leave or in the wind). But what you guys are still missing out on, for more than one reason, is slide toppers! Feel the ceiling of your slides in direct sunlight, then feel again in the shade, you'll feel the difference and with your fridge being in a slide...come on guys, I know they cost money but they'll keep you and the broom off the roof and keep the RV and the fridge cooler! Kudos on the thermostat too, best upgrade ever.

We recently went to Chimney Rock, NC where it was hotter than hell. We had the dogs with us, both are very hot natured, so we had to keep it cool. We were failing until we opened the vents on the AC to dump the cool air directly into the camper before it cycled through the scorching hot roof. Our coach is an 06 and had roof repairs that included new white paint on the aluminum roof. Another great help. Lastly we have 4 AC/HP with 4 zone cooling. They are all working. No shade trees at our spot and typically it gets up to the 70's in the winter. Not gonna be in Florida in the summer.

Where I live in Texas, we get both extreme cold and extreme heat. Last year, my son and I stayed in a state park and it was only 95 degrees. But, the temperature humidity index got up to 122 degrees. Not only did our ac's struggle, but our fridge was also struggling. It can and does easily get into the 100s here, but that humidity index is a killer 😂 Love your channel!

My hubs and I recently camped for a week in Oregon City, CA Lake Mildred. Hottest week of year it seemed. Thank goodness for our generator when the campground shut off the electricity. We had a great time staying cool at the lake or inside the trailer. All 3 dogs survived the heat and went swimming too. Thank you for the video this week.

Our MaxAire fans also have a ‘fan only’ mode so you can run them with the vents closed. Almost like having a ceiling fan in our RV bedroom which tends to be warmer than the rest of the coach.

Very good information on cooling techniques to keep your RV cool. I do want to mention 1 more that is so important to cooling the inside. As TPO roofs age they start to discolor and darken creating additional heat transferring that into the RV. Keeping it clean helps, but it will continue to darken. Roof coatings are the answer. This is an easy DYI project. Henry's roof coating was my choice. I installed it on my 2018 reflection 1 year after I bought it. Not only will it lower the temp in your RV it will also seal your roof and extent the life of the roof. Wow, what a great look, easy to clean and a 15 year life before recoating. My RV roof looks better than when it was new. It has remained a bright reflective white color for 6 years now. I highly recommend it.

We have a class A motorhome with 2 fairly new roof top a/c's. It's not enough if it's over 100, so we purchased a portable a/c that's also a humidifier. We keep the portable up front while parked, near the back of the drivers seat. It's vented out of the drivers side window. Up front is best since the rooftop a/c is located in the rear & the middle. We keep a portable fan running because it will push the cool air from one room to another. Parking under or near trees if we can. We also use the reflector installation roll in our windows, especially the front window. We keep awnings out if not windy. Our Rv is always comfortable...it was 108 yesterday, and a cool 72 degrees inside our Rv.

Love following you both, you're such an adorable couple... Additional tip we practice (Live in Arizona myself, so a self-proclaimed battler-o-the-heat myself) is we ordered our fifth wheel with slide toppers. The slide toppers also act as an elevated shade buffer to the top of the slides, where let's face it... is a thin barrier to the sun, and creates some shade and space for the air to flow and relieves some of the heat that would ordinarily be beating on the slide roofs.

also underrated thing is to use the “dry” mode on the newer furrion units even if you’re not in a humid area, it cycles the compressor for longer, less strenuous cycles while pumping a constant flow of dry, cool air into the camper. for us (we’re in AZ) it’s much better than using the regular ac mode. on an 85+ degree day it can easily keep the trailer in the low 70s.

A couple of things, our pop up had an AC. It worked great. And two, to maximize the air flow in your fridge vent, put your fans vertically and have the bottom fan pull air into the compartment and have the top one blow air out of the compartment. We did that on our camper and it made all the difference than just blowing air into it.
