I’m so glad she put her foot down about natural hair and common sense boundaries! Also I love that she paints with her friends, that’s actually so cute. How on earth she works so hard and still has time to be interested in so many other things is beyond me. We’re lucky to be alive at the same time as her!
My mind is exploding. Anok Yai is sensational. There were so many referents going off in my head. Born in Egypt, moved to Manchester, NEW HAMPSHIRE. Are you serious? (Dion and I have been there.) Manchester, NEW HAMPSHIRE? What. Are.The. Odds. Then there was Sudanese (actually SOUTH Sudanese, I looked it up). Wait, I thought she was Egyptian. Then there was the Columbia U prof suspended when he tweeted that a dark-skinned South Sudanese model was so beautiful she was "a work of art or a freak of nature". ANOTHER South Sudanese model, Nyakim Gatwech, not Yai (had to look that up too, forgetting it was Columbia, not NYU). And finally, there was Yai's quotes "Everyone should go BACK HOME to Africa. There's this grounding, spiritual energy when you enter Africa, like you found God." Now, I've never been to Africa but I believe Yai and I believe that "everyone" WOULD feel "back home" in Africa. We came from there; all of us. And that called up this song by Senegalese artist Wasis Diop that I re-listened to this week. After you get done with Dion's video listen to this and feel God back home in Africa: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gCjSnJU8ZpY.html. My favorite contribution by Dion on this video was her 30 sec pause in chastisement of Prada. Okay, my mind is back together again. Dion the Taurus Viewer Contest (this is hard): Where would an ol' gray head like me come across Wasis Diop? (one clue: it's in a popular culture medium). First person with the correct answer gets a Mensa Society membership. Or something.
she’s just absolutely beautiful. Her name should be put in front of a lot of names that normally get said as today’s best top models. Submission: Zoe kravitz , she has a very distinct style.
