This is the most non anime sounding opening I've ever heard. I love it.

This girl went from doing some covers of very famous Japanese songs by very famous Japanese music bands, to doing the opening song for the first course of the second season of Vinland Saga (2019 -), and I call that: Significant breakthrough in the career of an artist. In conclusion: Without a doubt, Anonymouz's "River" is one of the best anime opening songs of 2023.

When I say this song is breathtaking, I mean it. It gives me chills!!! This is a masterpiece paired with Vinland Saga (which is, in itself, a masterpiece)

This has to be one of the most unskippable anime openings I've ever heard. It's so breathtakingly beautiful in every way and matches the themes and emotions of Vinland Saga so well. This music video is so gorgeously powerful too! Wish I could tell every person involved that they did an amazing job!

I swear people who work with Vinland Saga are so cultured when it comes to everything.

The song fits PERFECTLY for the anime. Expressing the feeling of feeling trapped and longing for freedom. Describing a powerful river, and the sense of being pulled along by its force. They express a desire to let go and be swept away by the river, as a release from their current situation. They also mention the need to "see the world" and move on from their sorrow. The song expresses a desire to escape and discover something new, to the unknown, the speaker want to be taken by the river to unknown places. The speaker is asking for help, they want someone or something to guide them and show them what they have done wrong. The reference to "flaming arrows" suggests a sense of danger or conflict. The speaker is asking to be taken further, to be saved, in order to no longer feel afraid of losing their heart, possibly meaning losing themselves. The repetition of the phrase "mighty river release my soul" and the desire to see the world and escape the "hollow" suggests that the speaker sees the river as a symbol of liberation and a path to a better future. In the last part of the MV, she's surrounded from those reddish leaves and branches, representing all the blood she shed, at first only few of them, but then as the zoom goes in to out, and as the view gets wider, she finally sees the "people" - with those white and pure clothes - representing the people she killed , the source of her pain. That reflect directly to what Thorfinn is going through. The chain at first, representing him as a slave - feeling lost to its painful past - that finds just as much strenght as he need to fight his past. He's then inside his mind with his memories, all the innocent kids, women, men that he killed. He's blindfolded, as he is haunted by nightmares and guilt. That's what Vinland saga S2 will be about.

Combining this masterpiece epic song... With the peak of one of the "Best Written" mangas in the history... This is what I call absolute DESTRUCTION.

This has to be one of my favorite anime opening songs ever, it just flows so well and fits perfectly for the first half of Vinland S2. An absolute masterpiece both as an anime opening and as a song itself

最初の10秒ほど見てハートや佐賀弁等の使用が曲調の壮麗さと合ってないように感じたけど、歌詞が表示されてからは涙が出るほど曲に合ってて良いと感じました。 何度も聴きにきてしまう…本当に素晴らしい曲です。

I rarely listen to anime OP/EDs past the first time but this song is a "must-listen every time, no exceptions." All of Vinland's OP/EDs are amazing but this one is superb. It's beautiful and haunting and fits so well with Thorfinn's current arc/journey.

Season 2 is an absolutely beautiful audio and video experience. In my opinion it blows away the first season but I always get sad when an episode ends because I can't wait for more. What a great show!
