Another 24 is a short film we put together about the 5th Shift we had at Central Fire Station on A-Shift. We hope you enjoy the look into what we do and who we are.
I got to do a 24 hour shift and a12 hour shift at a firehouse when I did my clinical for my basic emt class . I'm working hard to become a firefighter / emt . It was surreal to actually be on shift . I mean , I've dreamed of answering calls , hearing those tones drop , and just fitting in . I was treated so nice by the men at the firehouse and the PIC I was working under . I got 10 calls my first day . They laughed at my eagerness to get a call, especially one in the middle of the night 😂 they said that feeling would tone down when I actually did it on a regular basis . Dinner was great . I'm a vegetarian, so I assumed there wouldn't be much for me to eat , but they worked it out .
I broke into EMS working 24/48 with 0600 shift change. When I moved, our local FD does shift change between 1800-1900. It's weird for sure, but it makes sense, especially if you run your butt off you can go home and maintain a normal sleep schedule
The 1430 shift change for us at least gave you time to sleep in if you wanted and left enough time on the backside of the day to spend time with family.
from the UK.... we work with the same people each shift, do you? we do 9 hour days and 15 hour nights with a shift of 2 days 2 nights and four day off.....are you with the same people each 24 hr period?
Down here its 24hr on and 24hr off for 5 shifts then 6 days off. Work with the same people for the most part every shift unless vacations/sick changes it up.
First department that I have seen that shift changes in late afternoon... what's the thoughts? Is it better than the typical morning am shift? I always thought starting at a later time would be a better switch time...
Baptized In Fire I work EMS and we do 24’s. We have shift change at 0800 as does our local FD. This is the first I’ve heard of late afternoon shift change. Kinda interesting!

Yep ours is 0700-0800. Didn't know guys started shifts that late. I can see that being pretty nice though, as you can do stuff at home as you mentioned. When do you guys eat?
