The straps are overkill and not required or necessary by Federal DOT law with four points secured down. If you ever noticed a container truck with a chassis trailer with no straps, is because they are pin down in the four corners. You would be totally fine and safe with just those chains, they aren't coming off unless you hit something or roll over. These containers only weigh 4-6k lbs for 20fters and 7- 13k lbs for a 40fter. So not extremely heavy unless loaded with cargo inside. Hauled containers for 8 years. No issues with any state I went through or DOT stop I encountered. Climbing up on those containers is extremely risky and again unnecessary. If you fell off, think about the consequences of that and then the dramatic effect on your pay and future lively hood. Please look into an insurance plan like Aflac if you haven't already because workers comp doesn't cover you like they should, but a additional insurance plan will. Look into it, I have 24 years commercial driving experience with 8 years hotshot hauling containers etc. Stay safe 🤙🏼🫡
TA and Petro truck stop sell a tool to put corner protector up on corner of load ,the price is a rippoff at $52 plus you need a pole but totally worth it and much quicker and safer than you climbing on top to put corner protector under straps
Hey Alex. I ran a project on that base back in '19/'20 and it's pronounced Too- el- ah. I remember everyone at my office was calling it something different and when I got there I found everyone was wrong😅 . Anyway keep up the hustle.
Sure enjoy the securement. Thanks for the video Alex. I was going to ask you how'd it go with the dealer and your truck but i just saw you posted a video so going to check that out.
Alex I have few question 1.how long are you out on the road before you go home? 2.Do you use loadboards to dispatch yourself are you have a broker? 3. Do you find find loads for drivers and dispatch for them. Thank you Alex for all sharing may God be with you and give you wisdom to continue
I am usually on the road for 2-3 weeks. Depending on business. I have a dispatcher that finds my loads for me. I do not find any loads for other drivers. Thank you!
Great video Alex. I hope to get my CDL this yr. Hotshot looks like a interesting job. I’d probably do inclosed trailer and transport cars because they say that’s where the money 💵 is at. Why do you twist the straps on the containers and not keep the flush against them?
Alex, love your videos. Keep them coming. Got one question. When using the 4 inch straps, I noticed you leave the twist in them. Is that a preference thing? Wen I worked at a fab shop and we had to load goosenecks, my boss would jump our ass for leaving the twist. 😅 Safe travels and look forward to the next video. 👍🏾✌🏾
I have now watched 3 episodes. All are the same. Watch South Georgia Hotshot and take notes. I don't want to watch you pound strap and cinch binders. Tell a story. The struggles. The scenes. No more of the binder winders for me.
I have a 18ft length and two 27 ft length. All 6ft drop. Use this link and you’ll get either 5% or $10 off your first order. www.myteeproducts.com/super-light-14-oz-lumber-tarp-20x18-6-drop-with-6-x-8-flap-black.html?acc=0c3690a6bca4bd6bc3dabb0b5b956059
Love the videos you put out. You are all over the place. Do you ever go home lol. I’m thinking about getting out of a semi and doing this but dang brother I would want to be home weekends.
Just watched this beauty of a video again and i must say.. my anxiety went 📈📉📈📉 watching your camera peek further over the edge of those containers when placing those edge protectors😂. Much love from Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦 💪🏻🤝🏻
@@roshondatorrancehoye4785 I don’t see any cons. Some may see the cons being the fee that you pay them but to me it’s well worth it. The pros are that you aren’t distracted while driving. You don’t have to call or email the brokers, you don’t have to search for loads while driving. To me a dispatcher is a huge plus.
I learned how the chain links are makes a difference.. turn them flat. Everything was definitely secured. Smart thought 💭 on getting down from top of those containers 😅 I fell out laughing like yep don’t jump Alex! You turned right around and baby stepped down lol
👍🏻all good ,only thing that looks weird to me is the way you are putting the twist on your straps in my understanding twist must be on the wind deflection space not on the flat side of the load.
I’ll be honest. I haven’t checked. My trailer is a bit heavier than most. Most trailers with a 25,900 gvwr are in the 8000lb range. Mine is 10k. A little heavier.
hey alex glad to see a new video! hope is well, hopefully i start my hot shot next week, do you mind sharing a set up video inside and outside of your truck will be very helpful thanks!
Thank you! So far shocks seem to be doing good. I don’t know if there’s a good way to tell what shape they are in without taking them off the trailer but the rear isn’t bouncy so I’m assuming they are good.
It’s not sharp but it’s squared off metal vs the sliding track that my winches I have in which is rounded. Usually I roll up my strap and put the excess in there to protect the strap but I didn’t have excess with the containers so you saw me putting a piece of an old strap in between there.
It just seems like it because the camera is on the visor of my cap so it sticks out further when look down. lol. It is not the safest way to do it though. I agree. 😁
@@Mr.AlexKogan As I've gotten older--and fatter lol--I have developed a 'healthy' fear of heights. It's going to take a minute for me to calm down after seeing that lol.
Alex just a suggestion carry a golf club !! You be amazed how much it will help you when you throw chains or straps over to help you to bring it to you over. Learn it from a old timmer. Good job !!
Awesome video man, never realized the potential money in hotshotting. Do you plan to hot shot long term, or buy a bigger rig? Would be dope to see a video of just industry talk on things you learned and how the industry is in general. Keep it up brother you’re killing it out there be safe.. hustle on
