Nahum Bogner was born in 1933 in Brzezany, Eastern Galicia (today Ukraine), to Yitzhak and Sima. On July 7th, 1941, the city was conquered by the Germans. The family later moved to the village of Ciemierzynce, and in autumn 1942, they were deported to the Przemyslany ghetto. in December 1942, a widespread deportation took place in the ghetto. Nahum and his mother, along with his infant cousin, managed to jump from the deportation train and return to the ghetto. In the ghetto they reunited with Nahum's father, who had managed to survive another deportation train. Nahum's parents decided to escape the ghetto and seek hiding in the surrounding forest. They joined a group of families that had found refuge in the forest, establishing a partisans' family camp. In May 1943, Nahum's father left for Przemyslany, and never returned. In january 1944 Nahum's mother left to obtain food, was captured by Ukranian nationalists and murdered. Eleven-year-old Nahum was left with the partisan group, who adopted him. On July 22nd, 1944, they were liberated by a Red Army regiment that occupied the area. After liberation Nahum was housed in a Soviet children's home for war orphans in Lwow and was then transferred to Lena Küchler's orphanage in Zakopane. In August 1947 he reached pre-state Israel. Nahum is married to Neta, and the two have three children and eight grandchildren.

Amazing true story , he was so lucky to survive. And able to live out his life , whereupon the rest of his family didn’t get that opportunity.
