Another Field Reclaim/Moldboard Plowing/Discing/Planting Corn

Alan cleaned up a spot across from the farm that was basically a parking lot for old junk machinery for years and he decided it was time to work that ground again. The 1066 International Tractor got put on the International 770 6 bottom moldboard plow. After that, the International 1256 tractor disced up the field, and then the Farmall 560 tractor made short work of planting it with the John Deere 7000 corn planter. The piece is probably about 4 or 5 acres, but every piece counts. It's also really nice to see that land be useful again. We don't always work on the farm, we enjoy some family fun time also. It happened to be Barnum Spring Fever Days, and the kids had been asked to be in the parade on the Carlton County Fair Float. The kids had so much fun, especially Jordan, who got to sit on a Farmall H tractor. That night, Alan's Dad handled chores so we could all go to the Spring Fever Days Rodeo. The Bull riding was especially exciting. Everyone had a good time and it was nice to get off the farm as a family.

I don't recall ever having seen a set of trailer plows with 3 tires. It appeared as though they were trailing rather well and all the shares seemed to be cutting at the same depth. Did a good job of turning that sod ground over. I think you will see some good corn in the piece of land. Nice to see your family enjoying some quality time away from the farm. Everyone needs to get away once in a while. It is good for the soul and the mind!

Those 66 series IH tractors are real old work horses! I put a 12 volt fan in the top right corner of the cab in my 966. The extra air flow makes it much more comfortable. I never go in and out that door much anyway with the gear shifters right there, so it really doesn’t interfere much.

I just happened on this video and watched it because I dairy in North Carolina. My wife is from Minnesota, she was born and lived in Kettle River in early childhood. We have vacationed to visit her family in Minnesota 9 times over the past 18 years and have been in Carlton and Pine counties several times. We were in Kettle River twice over the years while Ma and Pa Kettle days were going. In your video segment of the parade, imagine my surprise when I saw the old lime-green Ford ready-mix concrete truck. I made pictures of it in the Kettle River parade in 2012 !

I’ve not seen a moldboard plow that big used around here, by the time folks went to larger tractors, every thing was chisel plowed or disked. In fact in NC piedmont very little tillage is used. No till planting and seeding is common, both for corn, soybeans in the spring, wheat in the fall. In fact my cousins who dairy have ground that probably hasn’t been tilled in 10 years, they just cut the spring or fall crop off spread liquid manure then no till plant or drill

My Dad had the 5 bottom version of that 770. Spent many hours plowing with that in the White 2-105 in my HS days. I think that White was about the same HP as your 1066 and 5 bottoms was enough for it. Usually could not go as fast as you are unless it was bean stubble on hills. Low spots in corn stalks had to slow down. But, soil in that area is heavy and black maybe yours is lighter.

What a great place to live! Our antique tractor club's insurance co. made us stop throwing out candy at parades because they thought someone would get hurt. In addition to no riders on the fender, it took all the fun out of it so we just quit doing parades ten years ago. Seems stupid and sad to me. Good to see your parade. This plow needs some new iron too don't it? Looks like that 7000 could use a spring or two as well. Sod turned up well, bought to produce some nice corn. Best regards from Indiana.
@trinitydairy
@trinitydairy 2 года назад
Yeah that plow needs shears and shins, but they had enough meat left on them for that little piece. Those broken springs on the planter are for extra pressure when planting no till, so they don't need to be on there for what I'm doing. Yeah all the rules for parades and events like that, take all the fun out of them. Thanks for watching!

Hi Alan, the 6 bottom plow is the same width as your 1066, which means you don’t travel to run over any lower ground with the tractor tires. What tractor was that, pulling the disk and ‘smoother’ combination? What about when seeding? When you said you burned the ground to clean it enough to see that it was clear of metal bits/debris, do you mean fire or spray? If fire what season is best for it? Sorry for all the questions. Didn’t grow up on a farm, so much to learn!
@trinitydairy
@trinitydairy Год назад
A 1256 IH pulling the disc, and a 560 Farmall, on the planter. We burnt it with fire, we try to do that in the spring,the main thing is to have enough moisture, to keep the fire from getting out of control.
