4WD beginner Day trip in Lerderderg state park, we got lead to Ratcliffe Track by the Pathfinders group and in particular we faced a track which most people where not ready to do as it wasn't a beginner grade section. Somewhat steep and rocky it is not the type of track you want to be doing on your first trip out in any vehicle if you new to 4wding.
This is what we call an enjoyable day out four wheeling and I think anyone who likes to see insight to beginner tips 4wders will enjoy this video as its from a experienced off roaders point of view helping beginner/new four wheel drivers.

Video Corrections 1) Adventra does not have a low range, I tried to explain to my wife about gear ratios and how low vs high and gearing works, it’s a complicated topic and there is ongoing debate over this inside our community how it’s not needed and our 1st is low enough with our engine power but it is not a low range, just a good enough gear ratio in first to manage steep climbs, we use a throttle controller to manage pedal throttle control which works super effective in bumpy rocky conditions; 2) VDS in the Pathfinder is actually it's Vehicle Dynamic Stability control equivalent to ESP or ESC as mentioned in other vehicles, this was what we would have needed to turn off but it appears for whatever reason it was off by default in 4LO perhaps a default pathfinder configuration when in low range. VDS is in fact NOT a descent control in anyway. I was wrong and did not know at the time of filming, I later discovered this when I googled some research on the Nissan R51 Pathfinders. Sorry if we confuse anyone with this, I didn’t want to repost the video over these 2 small corrections.

Very good video for someone who wasn't expecting to make one. I'm working on mine now. Everyone should remember but that some of the drivers had never done this type of stuff before. We all have to start somewhere and nothing beats getting out and having a go.

Exactly it, I think there's capabilities there in the vehicle.

True especially if you start 4wdriving a little later in life I am a little more cautious now after 4wdriving for 30 years than when I was young and stupid and with no fear when I was 19

I don't know how that pathfinder missed that tree but well done and especially beeping his horn all the way up there without even knowing it. That was one of the most entertaining videos I've seen in some time thanks for sharing to see the next one😁😁

Great vid. It's nice to see good advice when a beginner is starting out. Sometimes we all quickly forget how nervous we get when your starting out. And to remember that 9 times out of 10 the car is 10 times more capable than your are

Why would you discourage him from using his diff lock? I think they should go to a proper accredited driving school.
@AllTerrainAction
@AllTerrainAction 25 дней назад
In certain Toyota models in Australia, engaging the rear diff lock disables the front A-TRAC system. In many situations, using only the rear lock, especially when a front wheel is completely off the ground, can hinder progress. A-TRAC, which operates on both the front and rear, is often more effective in some cases than using a rear locker with an open front differential. If A-TRAC continued to function at the front, like it does in the Tundra in the US, our opinion on this might be different depending on the track/terrain/obsticle.

@@AllTerrainAction I watched the whole video haven't done that track in many years as I'm more into Touring now but enjoy watching those videos. Plus i really enjoy watching the AWDS as my partner has a 2006 Kia Sportage and was really surprised how well it went at the Little Desert NP

How embarassing for some of those pathfinder drivers. I have the R50 pathfinder and is live axle. R51 is based on D40 Navara with a shocking traction control system and independent rear. Wish there was a older one amongst them.dont base Pathfinder on that model. Look at the model after the r51 says it all.
@AllTerrainAction

We don't really know much about the R51 so it was interesting to see a few to look at some of the R50s now you got me curious.

As an r51 owner who used to own an r50, I can definitely say the 50 was much more capable off road. I have issues going up curbs in my r51 which is why I haven’t been game to do any real off road in it.
@spf4x4
@spf4x4 2 года назад
Firstly it was from a club on FB that only allows R51's to join (don't ask me as i don't know why) and we had 5 on the day rock up with another 4 not turn up, most of the people there were not experienced 4wd's and i invited Chris along for his knowledge of the area and because i enjoy his videos as well as the way he conducts himself around other people. I personally don't have a problem with mine and i have found it fantastic, it was the first time we had been out as a group and the whole day was great, if only we weren't told it was a two wheel drive track and we had a lot more experience. You honestly should reserve judgement on people and their abilities until they've actually 4x4'd more than once. Join our group on FB if you still have the R50.
