I don’t know if the police departments are able to see their work history though (aside from what they include on a resume). There should be a national database for ever police officer that includes all the police departments they’ve worked at, for how long, and why they were let go (if at all) Edit: Yes everyone, I know what a background check is, and I realize that police officers need to do them, but your average background check checks only for criminal history and not work history. Glad to hear that PDs are more thorough with theirs, but obviously it didn’t matter in this situation.

They had duty to check her home for her own safety. I'm not defending what the cops did when she grabbed the pot of bowling water and the things that transpired after that. Some of the comments say she threw the water at the officers, some say she didn't...I can't tell either way off my phone. What I'm saying is that the officers were well within their right to check her home because of the culmination of elements: 1) she took a long time to open the door, 2) she wasn't answering questions upright, she was telling officers not to hurt her even though she called the cops, and 3) there was a unknown car parked outside her home and she didn't know who it belonged to. The officers were on their way to leaving the call until they found out about the unknown car. It's reasonable to assume they wanted to ensure the person(s) in possession of the unknown car weren't causing any harm to her, thus they checked her home. The officers would have been in serious trouble had they knew about the unknown car, did not thoroughly investigate who the persons were and whether they were in her home, and something tragic happened to her. Again, I'm not defending the actions of the cop as it relates to the bowling water situation, I'm saying they were acting within their duties to check her home.

@hector8491 Those two deputies were dispatched out to Sonya's residence to investigate a prowler lurking around the home, not to ask her frivolous questions about the vehicle in her driveway or her identification in that regard. Furthermore, they were both free to vacate the premises after confirming that no suspicious person(s) were found anywhere on her property.
@andregodfrey3022
@andregodfrey3022 Месяц назад
They never should've entered the victim's home in the first place....all they had to do was make their presence known to the caller they were actually on-site to investigate, immediately and thoroughly check the entire perimeter, give a status to the caller by reassuring there were no signs of any prowler lurking around, ask if she's OK and let her know if anything changes don't hesitate to place another call to law enforcement and then immediately leave her premises... it's just that simple.

@@nicolemccoy3436what 98% of people seems to be missing is that after she dropped the pot he directed her to “drop the pot” not once but twice before she picked it back to carry out his intimidating command. When she picked the pot back up to adhere to his command and drop the pot to the floor. He said it one more time “drop the pot” which she was trying to do before he shot her to her death. He will not only be tried in court but Sonya Massey’s spirit along with the Ancestors are going to have a time with him in his cell / cage = his new home which may become his place of ☠️ Usually cowards like him can’t take the haunting, paranoia and threats from spirit, his conscious, his peers in jail as well as the prison guards. He has internal shame for disappointing his mommy and daddy who are embarrassed of his actions and especially his words. All of the constant profanity and degrading language towards an innocent 112 pound woman in her home with a pot that she sat down then picked up to obey his repetitive command and mittens on, mittens in the air, confused & saying sorry pleading for her life in the little time & split second that her precious life was taken. @user-pc1bx1qi8i
@user-pc1bx1qi8i Месяц назад
@lisaclinton1519 Finally someone said it. She was complying with his constant order to "drop the pot." He said it when the pot was on the counter and she ducked down apologizing with her hands in the air, then covering her face with the potholders. Confused, she then reached up to grab the pot and drop it on the floor. He even continued to say "drop the pot" after he shot her. The charge is 1st degree murder which from what I understand, intent has to be proven. There needs to be another charge where there will be no doubt.

This shooting is much much worse than the George Floyd murder and on so many levels. And both officers should be charged and sent to prison under the Joint Enterprise criminal statute. Why should the Join Enterprise statute only apply to civilians? The Joint Enterprise factor should especially apply when dealing with law enforcement because this would discourage collusion. The second officer would not have backed the first office if he felt that there was a real possibility of a joint Enterprise charge and conviction. He would have bailed on his college... "Sorry bro, you're on you're own!!" and told the truth right from the start... And Steven A your description of the incident sucks. You'd have been better off just showing the video. How you described her handling the hot water could easily leave the impression that she might have provoked the situation in some way shape or form when in truth she did not encourage the situation in any way whatsoever. The officer chose to interpret her handling of the hot water (that he told her to go and attend to) as threatening so that he could somehow justify pulling his gun and shooting her. It's as if he deliberately sent her over to the pot of boiling hot water to set up the shooting and be able to argue probable cause. It sounds ridiculous but that is how it looks and how it looks at least makes more sense than any and every explanation provided by both the officers and the police force.

It takes 2 people to argue. The officer was disrespecting and shouting at Sonya. She remained calm. 4. Cop TOLD HER to go to the kitchen and turn stove off as he, “didn’t want the house to catch fire." 5. The officer was in the living room and a counter separated them. He moved from behind the counter to get a straight shot. 6. He told partner not to bother with getting a medical kit. “She’s done. Head shot.” She probably heard this before dying. The other cop did in fact get his kit. 7. Officer eventually got his kit because his partner got his, but then said he wasn’t going to, “waste his supplies” and put it away. 8. I think you need to see the shooters POV in slow motion. You can see her coming up from the ground with the boiling water pan in her right hand, throwing the pot at the officer, and with the left hand covering her face because she knows what she is doing and she knows that she is about to get shot. Not that I agree with the shooting but the fact of the matter is that she did in fact the throw boiling water at him

Exactly what I saw Glad to know I'm not the only one with working eyes Geesh Some of these people need a cni dog they are absolutely blind. They believe everything he says about some water coming over to his feet. She was trying to use the pot to shield herself from the guns pointed at her. She had filled it up with cold water after she dumped out the hot water because she was confused & stressed out. I think she was born in the hot water for the prowler. But with the police being there she felt safe so she poured it out. And she knows she turns and looks and they're pointing guns at her Poor baby didn't stand a chance they wanted to kill her no matter what. He came up with that part idea to take her life. Water went on the floor after they shot her in the head the water is not going to stand in the middle of the air after the person is dead This is just sickening how they try to twist it and blame the dead innocent victim Rest in God Sonya 🙏

@kybreezy7610 Месяц назад
@@LemonLlama11first of all, the shooter’s POV is nonexistent because he turned his body cam off. It was his partners body cam that recorded it. Second, she didn’t come up from the floor with the pot, she actually sat it down on the counter and as he approached her with the gun pointed at her head, she lifted herself and picked the pot up from the counter in an act of self defense. Perhaps you should slow the video down and watch again. Actually what you will see is that when he first shouts at her to drop the pot, she has nothing in her hands but oven mitts.

@LemonLlama11
@LemonLlama11 Месяц назад
@@culbjr definitely what he did was escalate everything and made everything worse. For the cops to be inside isn’t that weird because she was the one who called and I’m sure they wanted to ask her questions, which they did, and wanted to talk to her inside since there is a possible burglar outside. The conversation wasn’t that bad until the office escalated the situation, again not defending what he did to make things worse. 2nd, the reason why he is so close is because at that point as soon as he draws the gun, she turns into a suspect and a threat. She does a half duck then stands, then ducks fully under the table. At that point the police officer can’t go away, he has to keep his eyes on her, in case she is going down underneath the counter to possibly grab another weapon. So the cop being that close isn’t a surprise during that particular moment. And no, he definitely waited until she is throwing the pot to shoot because you can literally see her in slow motion from the shooters point of view, her coming up from the ground with the pot in her right hand, and you can actually see the bottom of the inside of the pot facing directly at the cop, getting increasingly bigger in the video because the pot is coming towards the camera, towards the officer. Then she gets shot. You can clearly see is not shot, she is unharmed while coming up from the ground with the pan of boiling water. The boiling water lands inches near the office with smoke coming from the ground, and chair where the pot lands. Please please watch the video and by slow motion with no bias. You can feel the way you want and believe what you want, but it’s evident she through the pan. The cop should have never took the whole situation to that pedigree but at that very moment of the cop shooter, it was justified. You cannot throw water on anyone, that is a deadly weapon by law

This is all so strange. It seems like they had somewhat polite banter at first. She even told them she loved them. The cop who shot her was somewhat friendly at first as well. It all just took a complete turn once she rebuked him in the name of Jesus. She said it jokingly, and I really just don’t know why this ended up the way it did. It’s such a strange and baffling situation.

I hate it when people say her rebuke could be seen as a threat and that she was going to throw the water. She rebuked him when he insinuated that she might harm him with the water. She was at the sink seeming like she was emptying the pot!! The cop told her to turn the stove off but he didn't tell her to remove it from the stove so he got scared or weirded out (why? She looks abt 110lbs and they could just leave the house or move further away). She took the water to the sink so he made a comment about her not throwing it at them. Hence, she rebuked him for thinking she would do something like that, the idiot got angry at the rebuke, took it as a threat, and shot her while she was cowering with her hands up. This is a case of a trigger-happy cop who didn't use sound judgment but instead chose to cold-bloodily murder someone he saw as a threat due to a pot of boiling water while he's one with the real deadly weapon. You really can't make this stuff up!!

Because that's the entire scope of a cop's so-called investigation. They're trained to escalate and get identification from everyone just in case the person is possibly wanted.
