I think the whole line of the Iceland tectonic plates have separated enough that this is going to go on for a while. Lava is going to come up and fill in and make new land. I mean that is how Iceland was made and it hasn’t been this active in over 800 years.

I believe I read / heard somewhere that often the type of rock you end up with or the type of eruption can depend on the gases? Like if there is a lot of gas or if there is very little. So that could be part of it? Maybe ? Unsure what affects / causes more or less gas though... Maybe energy from the sun is part of it? Solar flares certainly increase earthquakes + send more energy into the system. That may also make the magma hotter or more "active" in some way? Maybe more bubbly with more gas? I am also surprised to hear the words pyroclastic flow in relation to Iceland. Because I have tended to think of these Icelandic eruptions as somewhat "safe"... That is the lava oozes out and flows somewhere. Yeah, it can do damage but its more like a river flowing somewhere versus Vesivius destroying Pompei. Two totally different sceneraios! But our sun has been very active so activity with volcanoes is increasing.

Hi Silki. Oh my. The power plant but maybe elsewhere. Honestly it really seems they really don’t know but they are keeping everyone busy. I wonder why they are not bringing in another lab outside Iceland to confirm the analysis. I know from experience that multiple labs are essential because human error or other human behavior can complicate lab results when confined to the same people and the same equipment in the same location. If in fact, the values are significantly different perhaps just because the eruptions keep happening the magma has been changing even within the same crater. Is that a possibility? If they are considering themselves world experts, I would suggest a lot of humility could go long way, and they need to cross check independently all of their findings and be open to be wrong in the labs. Trust and verify is a reasonable approach.

Icelandic language uses random letters... makes me crazy. Think of Polish which has a sort of cryrillic alphabet but at least the words look like something...the English word "stop" is written as "stop" in Polish. In Icelandic the word stop is "stoppa"... why the extra letters?
