Our parents never let news effect them like this but it’s because there were only 4 times to catch the news 6am, noon, 6pm and 11pm give or take an hour (I grew up on the east coast). 5-6 hour blocks. We were tricked into thinking 24 hour news was a great thing. 10 out of 10 times you’re told something horrible and not just horrible or upsetting but there’s nothing to be done about it. It’s either happened or is happening. 😢 I happy Sandra had you back to reading again and not just the news but books that make you feel good and allow to submerge yourself with out being scarred in the process.❤ love your podcasts as always. 🧶❤

Leena, your excitement is contagious! I’m in! I actually have stash yarn that will work quite nicely (not quite as fun as picking new, but still it makes me happy to use stash). I can’t wait to see yours knitting up…the skein you showed is aMAzing! I’ve never done an MKAL before but I do know that I love Helen Stewarts style, so I’m sure I will enjoy this. Yay!

I recently found your podcast and I love your shares. Thank you! I am a new knitter that hasn't ventured into picking my own yarn and color for projects and hearing you talk about yarn makes me excited to try! I would love to see what you knitted as a new knitter before you started your channel :) I am a mom of 3 under 5 and I love hearing you talk about your family life too. And books! Hi Karine! I’m so glad you found the channel and are enjoying 🥰 If you’re going back, you’ll see me wearing all the things I made before I started my channel! I discuss each at the top of the podcast. I started knitting in 2021, so it hasn’t been too long. The minute I got the hang of it I became obsessed!! Even if you’re new to knitting, be brave and don’t underestimate your abilities!

Love your excitement over the upcoming MKAL Leena! I'm about to start a Helen Stewart shawl myself for my daughter's wedding in June - I want to wear a hand knit as "mother of the bride" and I've never knit a Helen Stewart shawl before. As far as Instagram goes I find it so useful as a diary of all my knits in one place. I photograph every finished object so I have a record of my knits and what yarn I used etc. it's also great to show people/family etc everything I'm knitting. It saves scrolling back through my photos when I want to show somebody something I've made - I just go to my Instagram page and the photos are there. ❤

Jersey Girl here..Bruce Springsteen song with the line “meet me tonight in Atlantic City”! I have to thank you for the Libby recommendation. I too downloaded the app and now I have been listening to books and thinking “every time I save the price of an audiobook, I am gaining a skein or half skein of yarn”!!! I listened to Demon Copperhead too. I’m going to check out the MKAL. Thanks for the content.

I’m going to have to look up the song! I love Bruce Springsteen but definitely not familiar enough to have put that together! I think the same thing with Libby. lol. Saving money on one obsession means we can spend on the other 😜

I was considering participating in the MKAL and was kinda unsure, but your infectious enthusiasm convinced me to go for it. ;) Helen Steward has a blog post on her Curious Handmade blog with specific yardage requirements for each colour and some tips on colour selection. :)

Yay! Yes I did see her yardage post, which makes stash diving easier. I probably should have tried to make stash yarn work at least to some extent, but you only live once 😂

@@AnotherKnittingPodI tried to come up with a palette that uses stash yarn but nothing really inspired me. Then I realized that I was not really in the mood to knit a shawl with four colours, but that I was instead more drawn to knitting the MKAL shawl in a single colour. I don't currently have 4 skeins of one colour so had to order yarn, I had no choice. 😅😂 After several hours of research I decided on the Merino Linen by Life in the Long Grass (one of my favorite dyers) in the colourway Mint Grove. I get serious spring vibes from that colour and I'm super excited now. 😀 (It's kinda similar to the colour of your hat in the video).

Well you pulled me. I have several WIPs but couldn't resist a William Morris themed MKAL. I love the Arts and Crafts movement. I'm knitting the Smoke Show vest ny Thea Colman and believe it or nor I had ordered William Morris inspired buttons. So of course this MKAL spoke to me. I was hoping to use stash but needed one more skein. Madeline tosh jusr released a new colorway named The Mountains are Calling. It is a pefect combo for my stash skeins. Now I needed to focus on getting some WIPs off the needles. Just finished the Heaven and Earth Grocery Store. Wow it really touched me. Will definitelly read another McBride book. Thanks for sharing your books and inspirations.

I saw that mkal and was tempted because I really love William Morris but I thought I didn’t really feel that keen on a lace shawl, but now that you’ve posted it and in our shared birthmonth I decided I’m going to join along! I think I might use some stashed JC Rennie silk-wool that are some nice ecru-tan-blues, but maybe I’ll figure out something to bring in some peachy tone.

Thank you for highlighting this MKAL! I love a good MKAL, I love the bird theme, and I have the perfect yarn in stash (a 3-skein white to green fade from Beehive Yarns plus a fourth skein that I will need to stash dive for in a contrasting color, maybe pink). Excited!!

Ok, convinced! Your enthusiasm is contagious... Signed up for the MKAL. Have a wonderful Urth Uneek Fingering Skein in color 3032 in my stash. Went online right away and ordered some Malabrigo Sock to go with it. This is my first MKAL and not sure what I am getting into but that makes it even more exciting. Thanks for bringing so much fun into our knitting world.

I’ve never done a Helen Stewart mkal but I am tempted now. 😊 I love all of the colors that you went through. I wanted to let you know those needle stoppers are just silicone beads. The silicone beads store online sells them for a fraction of the cost of knitting shops. I think you should get some for your birthday 😉

I agree. I love a paper book, but its easier to take a Kindle on the go, or listen to an audiobook while you go through your day.

Love your hat, just curious, what part of the hat do you run the elastic through? I didn't know about this pattern, was looking for something like this on a large needle with a 1x1 rib, so happy that you talked about it. Love your podcast and how you go into detailsto explain the yarn and the patterns you knit.

Hi there! I ran the elastic under one leg of each stitch under the brim. So the folded brim completely disguises it. I left it long and didn’t weave in the ends so I could pull it tighter or make it looser. It’s a great solution!

Leena count me in! I’m British so know a fair bit about William Morris, I have actually done two needlepoint tapestries of his designs, the strawberry thief and a.n.other I can’t remember the name of. I’ll send you photos in a private message via instagram. Do you think it’s possible to do this with an advent? I have a telling yarns advent from a couple of years ago that I’m tempted to use, the colours seem ideal and I’ve kind of sorted into a fade. Really looking forward to it…now to finish off some wips 🤨

I was thinking about that, but I really wanted something more colorful and nature-inspired. I feel guilty that I didn’t choose that yarn as its just sitting around, but oh well!

I’ve stopped in world news for the past year. I feel SO much better. Firstly : you will always be told if something very important happens by someone else. Secondly : since when knowing who sent what missile somewhere has ever helped us or truly informed us on anything ? I mean what can you do about it ? What impact would you have ?!? Ok you’ll be sad. And so ? I feel that where we can have a positive impact is our close circle: be kind to others and the environment, teach others to do the same. If everyone did that I swear we would (will) be in another type of world and you’ll still not need to have world news about it.

I couldn’t agree more!!! Yes yes yes. This is exactly where I’ve landed. I still struggle against the guilt of not being able to sympathize with the pain of everyone suffering in this world, but I’m not sure killing my spirit is worth it. And like you said, even if you’re not engaging in it, its still everywhere.
