I need to wash my van too! We live right off the highway but the way my van looks, you’d think we lived on a gravel road, it’s so dry in this part of Minnesota that the wind just carries the dust everywhere! I don’t have dust in my house, I have really fine sand. Thanks for another great video! 😊

I liked you showing sorting and sending the steers to market. My friends named their stock, “Roast, steak, hamburger, etc.” so the kids knew they would be sent to market/eaten at home. If fat cattle prices are anything lick in USA you should be scoring a good pay check on the those steers. I remember thinking you should have stopped feeding out your steers due to how tight forage may be due to on going drought. You definitely proved me wrong! May it rain to stock up your forage totals!

How far away do you have to go to a packing plant? Is it in Canada or do they come to the US? We finish a lot of Holstein steers and now black cross Holsteins. We are about 250 miles to the plant in Green Bay.

Depends on the current market value. Last August, they were getting around $2,333 Canadian per steer. (They had around $1,865 invested in each steer) Target weight is 1,500 lbs.

How old are the bull calves when you turn them into steers and how do you do it

On their farm, the castration process is done during their calf processing procedure. Which is usually within hours after birth. There are multiple ways to castrate a calf, but they use the elastic band method. Where a strong elastic band is placed around the neck of scrotum, cutting of blood circulation. The tissue dies over time, and usually detaches from the calf within 10 days.
