Howdy Folks! I've Got Another Perlite Alcohol Burner To Share With You! Yep! That's right, another Perlite Alcohol Burner AND another Vessel to use my Gelled Alcohol! These two new burners are specifically for use with any stove that utilizes a Trangia style alcohol burner. Super inexpensive and works like a charm!

God I'm glad I'm not the only idiot that reuses all of the plastic bags and paper in my cooksets 😂 my daughter says I'm just too anal about my kits. I do like the thought of perlite in the Esbit 1100ml cookset. I was thinking about buying two of the small rectangular alcohol burners with the sliding lids so that I could have contact across the whole bottom, but the perlite in an Altoids tin looks like a good match, especially by unhinging the lid.

Morning Brother John, fine video Sir. I have made several puck burners, and they work well. My cook set is a red Sterno square fry pan and its red square stove [I don't know if this set is made anymore]. I use a small rectangular tin filled with carbon felt as a burner and denatured alcohol, and I can cook a full meal. Even have enough time to heat my wash water before the flames die out. Sure enjoyed visiting with you today. Am looking forward to seeing your next video. Blessings, David.

I used IPA 99% (bought for de-icing and cleaning) to test my Ohuhu stove at home with marshmallows. I used about 2-3 teaspoons and it produced a large orange flame that only lasted 2,5 minutes. Couldn’t use it for the mm, so I used a candle instead. Does the perlite or gel prolong the burntime, or should I use bio-ethanol or a lower % IPA? I intend to go on a my first camping vacation and use the stove to prepare a meal. So I think I need a longer burntime. We don’t have Altoids in the Netherlands, but Amazon sells similar tins (round and rectangular). Does the material matter? Can you help me? Thanks! I really enjoy these videos, some binge watch Netflix, I prefer this! 😂

The perlite burns hot and fast, the gell burns at a lower temperature, for a longer period of time. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Thank You!

I know that it's 1 million years later, but whay not Vermiculite but Perlite? Vermiculite, has the capacity of retaining water and triple the volum, so...the capacity to absorbe the alcohol and release slowly. Thank!!!

Interesting option. With my Esbit Solid Fuel Stove and Cook Set, I tried a tea candle cup with alcohol in it. Boils 1 cup of water ok. With my Trangia T28 Mini I switched burners to a Vargo Decagon Ti alcohol stove & added a Vargo mini folding windscreen after seeing a blog called ^strange pairings^ A better set up now. The British have made hexamine solid fuel illegal. The perlite or carbon felt type alcohol stoves is an option to try. Trangia alcohol burners have a wick between the walls. Thank you for sharing a very interesting option.👍

Have you also tried to do the same way with Vermiculite? Shouldn't it perform better because it has better absorption properties?

@mendigoldberg5744 do you know what the advantages would be for a vermiculite stone soaked in alcohol compared to a plain alcohol container (Trangia or something)?

I got my bag of perlite in case I needed to supplement my heat this weekend. But it made me wonder... I saw the 'pill bottle stove' that uses stone 'tablets' soaked in alcohol. Could I use a pumice stone in that manner? Thoughts would be great. Thanks!
@boonedockery7220
@boonedockery7220 8 месяцев назад
I've seen the type of stove your referring to and they use "fire stove"(often used to line wood stoves to prevent metal fatigue of the stove walls and floor) it's ceramic and is much like pumice in that it has hundreds of tiny cavities that will absorb liquid. I, myself have not used fire stone or pumice for an alcohol stove. I think it's worth experimenting with just to see if it works and how well if it does work.

It's made of vermiculite. You can easily saw blocks of a bigger plate with a wood saw.

The new system is called the BCB Crusader Mk ll Fire Dragon, there’s also a pouch in British Multicam that can hold the entire kit. I have the Stove, US Army Canteen Cup, and Stove, Nalgene Canteen, Pathfinder Canteen Cup Lid, and Esbit Alcohol Burner. It’s a tight fit, but it all fits in the pouch.

Just to experiment I wonder what would happen if you mixed the perlite with the gelled alcohol. Would it absorb the alcohol and get an longer burn time?
@boonedockery7220
@boonedockery7220 9 месяцев назад
The perlite requires liquid alcohol to absorb. The escaping vapor burns. The gelled alcohol will not absorb into the perlite effectively. The calcium acetate works as a wicking agent for the burning alcohol. Combining them would lessen the effectiveness of both.

Perlite is an expanded volcanic ash material so it does not burn by itself. Kitty litter may be a formulation that includes combustible material. Check the label.
