My local antique dealer, Tim, did it again! He found another piggy bank loaded with coins - plus a few other jars! I bought the whole lot for $40 Canadian. I'm hoping there might be some surprises in there. And don't feel bad for the pig. He deserved it!

I love going through accumulations of coins. I do it for some friends that don't want to be bothered taking them to the bank and don't want to use the coinstar machines. I always find something and usually some silver.

Nice variety of finds, including U.S. wheat cents and KG6 cents, with lots of copper and some nickel. BTW, the 1935-D is actually a somewhat better-date wheat cent with a mintage of exactly 47 million, compared to the 1935 Philly with almost 250 million minted. Happy Hunting!

Thanks for sharing your finds. That's crazy you doubled your investment, just in face value... I'd love to do it as well and see what I can find. Too bad you broke the piggy, but it had a cap, so your could just have emptied it (... slowly...)... Nice video.

A great deal James! I also have a 2009 1 cent from The Bahamas, I found it in a Coinstar here in Germany. It is also really shiny like the first ones you found here. I wonder if they do something special during minting to make them stay shiny longer (except that horrible one you got). According to Numista they were minted in Winnipeg!
@CADRollHunter

It really is incredible how many governments and central banks have their coins minted here in Canada. And every once in a while, some of them make there way back!

I found a 1946 penny the other day, metal detecting not crh, I was using a new detector I don't know well, sometime I'll go over the area with a detector I know better I also found a brass golf ⛳ token which was pretty cool, it was in rough shape, luckily the penny was in okay shape, I found a similar token on numista, it had the same golf guy side, but the other side was different, maybe the mint reused the die for a different token, or the same place changed their reverse over time
@digginggopher

I don't separate my American pennies, I just throw them in a penny roll, keep it if it's copper or send it to the bank if it's zinc

Very nice haul! Are you able to sell your copper and nickel for their metal content?
@CADRollHunter
@CADRollHunter 5 месяцев назад
I haven't. Since you can't melt them down, the best one could do is trade and hold them at melt value, like one might do with scrap silver. The market of interested folks is quite a bit smaller than those who will trade silver coins.

@@CADRollHunter I am super stoked! I've been hunting quarter rolls for a few weeks now and I just came across my first 2023 Charles III in MS-60 or better condition. It has the tiniest cud on the obverse rim and it is brilliant! I should point out that I'm out in Cape Breton and we usually don't see circulation of new coins very fast around these parts.

hello there today i was at my bank to do some business , i also bought 20.00 rolls of nickels, nothing to great some older 60,s and 70,s but one thing that stood out was one roll of 2005 victory nickels the wrapper is blue and white with a maple leaf printed on it. it looks machine, Can you confirm that because if that is a good 2005 roll then at ms63 in the coin book it is worth at least 20.00 dollars.
@CADRollHunter
@CADRollHunter 4 месяца назад
An origian mint wrapped 2005 collector roll would be in a blue and white machine wrap, but the Mint Logo would be on it and it would also clear state "Royal Canadian Mint." If not, it could be bank/business wrapper, but it would be hard to know if it was full of 2005s.
