Relative is as essential in VR as it is on screens. For you and for the safety of other drivers. I don't find it immersion breaking, I just treat it like a HUD.
I had VR but now race with triple screen. when I'm on the straight of a track I can just take a sip of my beer without spilling it😂. greetings from Holland.
Some tips in regards to using voice commands with Crew Chief (I use no HUD and use voice commands for most of my info): 1. Use Windows speech recognition. I'm not even sure the other option even works. Bear in mind, you need to set up Speech Recognition in Windows which took me about 15 minutes including reading a short paragraph to get it used to my accent. 2. Send Crew Chief a loud audio signal, otherwise he can't hear you. If your audio interface doesn't have a built-in compressor, I recommend using Voicemeeter Banana and turning Comp. up quite high, though that software has a small learning curve for the average user. 3. Crew Chief isn't an AI and will only respond to existent, active commands (they're referred to as "actions"). At the bottom of the CC window, there's a button called "Add/Remove Actions". After you click it, you'll see 2 columns. The left one has the list of inactive commands, so make sure you have a gander and move the ones you want to use to the right column using the arrow buttons. I also recommend using a button in voice recognition mode instead of trigger word like you had or always on, as those aren't as reliable.
I’ve gone VR, with a Steelseries Arena 9 surround and buttkicker on my rig. I no longer care about stats. I just kick back and try and hang on. Way more fun than I deserve. 😂
Such an eventful race and quite rare to see you struggle here and there. VR is a different ball game, absolutely love it. Porsches are a handful aswell!
Great video Dave. Good to see you trying out VR more. You can add RaceLabs overlays to the recording using the streaming URL. Wont see it in the headset but viewers will see it.
VR is the best thing, i removed my screens to just go VR only.. its crazy intense, when it gets to the nittygritty you see you tensing up and thats all bout the VR its jsut soo good :D
When you race in VR you definitely seem much more immersed into the race. That's why I don't see me dropping VR despite the numerous advantages of triples. Loved the panic when you weren't able to break and seeing the rear end of the guy ahead closing and closing... 😂
This was an absolute cracker. The drama in the race, the carnage, the fight back and of course the deaf crew chief 😂🤣 Absolutely fantastic Dave, pure entertainment!
I can't believe after the bin on the Conrod Kerb you still went for the same move again on the second to last lap. I would have accepted P6 with my tail between my legs I think... Good racing Dave, love seeing more VR Content since I'm a VR user myself. Racelabs HUD/Relative would have been nice here so we can follow your adventures through the field. Charge on mate 💪
Dave, really looking forward to seeing more VR content. Seems like it's going well. Hope it's here to stay. I noticed the res quality is better on this one over the last video. Nice! It is possible to have Racelab Overlays shown to just your audience and they don't move around. I do it on my channel so if you haven't figured it out I'd be happy to help. It's the least I could do after all the help I've received from you over the years to become a better racer! Cheers Dave and happy racing!!
Awesome vid 👌 Edit: I've never been able to get Crew Chief to recognize anything I say other than "what time is it." I also use a button on my wheel to activate it to start listening to me instead of having to say crew chief.
Cracking video Dave - some great racing (and some fantastic lawn mowing action too!). I'm interested to know if your VR lap times are comparable to your 2D lap times, if you're happy to share?
Great to see you in VR again Dave there’s no way back to the monitor now 😂😂 that’s it now buddy 👍 I have the same problem with chief and I use the VR and headset
Man, I want to try VR so bad but we just went to the arcade with our daughter this past weekend and they had a VR "ride". It was like an animated rollercoaster thing that had some motion. I about lost my cookies twice so don't think i'm going to spend the money on it lol.
Trick is to start slowly and build up the amount of time you use it. The other thing is that in sims, you can do stuff like "lock horizon" which makes a big difference.
There's nothing to match good VR, but it's not for everyone. I've never had problems with motion sickness, but a couple of mates who tried mine both felt absolutely terrible after 5 minutes. You can 'teach' yourself to get used to it, but it takes time.
@@UncleNewy1 I went through 2 weeks of hell before I adapted, and it was one of the best things I’ve ever done. That being said, I know some people would never get past the sickness (I think it’s 100% worth it though). I don’t think people out there realize the experience you can have today with a solid dd, vr, and light haptics (too much and the headset shakes and becomes blurry). It truly is something you could only dream of back in the day
Thanks for eliminating one of my frustrations. I always thought Crewchief didn't recognize my voice commands because of my Brazilian accent. Now I understand its voice recognition is worthless. 😂
If it ever worked, crew chief voice control would be such a cool feature. Great race Dave! Loved the battling, can’t always be on the winning end of them 😆
It does work he just said the commands wrong "Crew chief Gap behind?" You can ask for tire life, tire pressures, how much fuel you have left, how much left in the stint, what the weather is, what the time of day is, what the track temp is, what the car ahead or behind did in lap times, what ANY Car including there name or car number for lap times\gap incase your curious for what P1 might be doing, you can ask him to bring up any of the black boxes for you to adjust settings etc I talk to him ALOT during a race asking questions...super useful this is only a few of the commands you can ask 🙏🏻
@notfreshey its not though lol you can make as many commands as you want mine has over 500 so I can say Jim gap behind? Whats gap behind? Gap behind? That way I feel like I'm actually talking to someone not saying the same exact line It's just taking the time out of your day to set it up Hell I even have SHUT THE FUCK UP JIM for when I'm mad and he actually says "alright I'll leave you to it" Just take 20 minutes to set the commands up or install them from someone else who already has 🤷🏼♂️ pretty fucking awesome considering the program is free yet of course someone like you finds a way to bitch about it 🤦♂️ Be glad they aren't like ioverlay charging per monthly now
Great Content Mr Cam. Regarding this crewchief... i could be wrong but it seems possible you havent added the commands that your trying to use. If memory serves there a box for add/remove commands. It has all the possible commands you could ask.. but you have to select from the list in the left hand box and add to the right hand box. At least this was how i got it to work about a year ago...
Wow that hand clutch is almost a cheat code. Have to get it on my fanatec Edit after race: This is the most exciting race I've seen in awhile. On the ragged edge the WHOLE time! And sometimes over the edge a bit 😅
Really.? The reverb g2 is very lightweight compared to most headsets. I can race in it all night. Make sure the rear off the strap is adjusted correctly. It should go under the back of your head not "opposite the headset" and then all the weight goes to the strap on top
Crew chief is a pain to setup - if you have a spare button to use to open the mic that's better but I found that turning down the confidence settings quite low helps with recognition. There's also so many commands and every one has to be spoken exactly as they are written which is a nightmare to remember in the heat of the race :/
Sitting here watching this after having a complete MARE on my club race last night and im thinking how easy you make this look.... Im questioning if ill ever be half decent at this stuff or should i pack it in and get back on my road bike!
@@davecamyt Jes Dave I dunno its demoralizing! One one hand i have a asetek basket full of gear waiting to pull the trigger on and on the other hand im thinking about what i have and sticking the lot on EBay :D
i'm imaging what your BPM would've been if there was a heart monitor. Those close calls were intense! and Crew Chief voice command would've been a banger for VR - if it ever worked. Even with the mic up my mouth it never seems to work
Crew chief is such a pain recognising your voice sometimes, I've had to turn down the confidence setting so low to be somewhat more acceptable and the list of commands is just too long to remember as every one has to be exact 🙃
Just FYI Dave it was (and probably still is?) against the RU-vid advertising rules to just play a video ad in your video. You can do a sponsored section and talk about a product, but it has to be presented by you, not just a video. Thats what the mid-roll ads are for so that RU-vid gets their cut. Might wanna check if the rules are still the same as they definitely once were.
Great content, Dave! Could you please share your iracing graphics settings for VR? My Quest 3 mic sucks with CC, but the headphone mic works pretty well.
Not that I'll ever get to play IRacing, let alone in VR, but it's really weird that the drivers head doesn't turn when you look left and right. It stays static. I know it's a small detail, but it's also pretty immersion breaking.
How longs left is about the same as the right mate lol and how did you not hit the wall at the end of conrod through the gravel trap! Try time remaining when asking crew cheif
Aright Dave, what’s your preference against VR and triples? I’m on the fence of which way to go, swayed towards VR but I’ve never used it. Great video also, I’m enjoying watching the VR videos.
There are pros and cons with each. You can't beat VR for immersion and feeling like you're really in the car (it doesn't come across how it actually is in a video), but with screens things look a prettier 😁
@@davecamyt That's the hard part, I'm limited on room for triples but I like good quality. I've been looking at the Pimax Crystal but would like to try out VR.
@@Chnkp I’m running a 4090 my issue is I’ve never tried VR. The pimax is a lot to pull out for before trying. I’ve raced with triples before but never VR. I think VR would be suit me better as it’s not just racing I would use it for.
I'm surprised to hear you say it's much harder in VR. I have only simmed in VR for a long time now and kind of figured I was getting an advantage on flat screen drivers but perhaps not. Maybe I should consider a flat screen setup, especially considering my last race where my view flipped a 180 on me Lap 1 turn 1 at Suzuka and had me looking out the rear window and inevitably hitting a wall for some big damage. Lost I think 127 irating from that. But I'll probably stick to the VR, it turns out (I hope) it was the boundary for my Quest 3 needed to be reset for whatever reason. My kingdom for a DPVResque headset with a DP 2.1 connection and Quest 3 like optics and bullet proof tracking. It can't be that hard can it?
Great run Dave! Hey how do you set you in-car mirrors FOV? I’ve scoured the IRacing config files and I can’t find it. My mirrors magnify everyone, I can see cars 4 sec behind me as if they’re on my bumper. Thx,
@davidmuse6578 in the same in-game menu where you can see tire pressure, ffb, fuel etc. Can set left, right and rear if they are available on the car. I think checking the 'separate config for this car' in the options menu to save this on a per car basis. 💪
@@Themnutsthanks for the reply. I’m only seeing up, down, left, right in that area. I get FOV for virtual mirror but none of the others. I think it’s in the config files but I can’t find it.
God, it’s so nice they fixed gravel and grass to actually work properly…. I’ll still never forget the guys who wanted it reverted back or even slipperier 🤮
Dave how can you try out the beauty that is VR then go back to monitors after that? I get the pros and cons, but the immersion is #1 for me. Truly feels like I am on the track irl and not just playing a sim.
I got both and I'm switching quite a lot. I just can't tell what's my favourite between the 2. A good FOV in triples can feel more realistic to me than VR. Open wheelers are always VR tho.
i mean you kinda just answered your own question. its all personal preference but at the same time If Dave used VR all the time, whats the point of having monitors
@@trainyUK98 let me rephrase then. IMO, the immersion of VR far outweighs any cons it has/pros of monitor. That being said, still nice to have a monitor for those more chill times where you want to hop in a bit more quickly/dont want that full level of immersion. For me it’s about 90-95% VR and the rest on monitor. My comment was moreso based around me seeing how popular RU-vidrs will do a bit of VR here and there but then go back to having monitors be what they drive on for most of the time
How much time do you spend practicing before jumping into a race Dave? I'm often find myself practicing too much and don't feel ready to race anymore. In iRacing since 2009 so it's not always been like this, very weird...
I all ways wanted to try this game but when ever I want to go for a test drive it doesn't have a green button to test the car's it only says controller calibration ?
Voice recognition/ command systems of any kind need voice recognition training. You will probably need to check on CC documentation on the preferred method of recognition training. The more you train Windows to recognise your voice the better it gets. Also CC will be looking for specific phrases. I f you don't say them exactly as CC wants then it'll just act stupid - as it did in this video.
@@davecamyt I'm curious whether or not it was working yesterday while setting up and testing or in a similar "oh my gosh" hectic race like that? I use VoiceAttack quite a bit and that completely fails to understand me when I'm in a stressful situation in a game, although I've done a lot of voice training and it usually understands me if I speak normally.
By the way, I ordered a CAMMUS C5 bundle this afternoon and I fully blame you and your review of it 😁. Been watching your channel plus a few others for a couple of weeks and you've all given me a big itch to scratch. Will be getting on iracing if/when it turns up.
If you're using the RC v10, it's probably the reason why some commands are not working. They've refactored many things in v9 and probably messed with some parts of the app. I recommend you to use the v8 version.
@davecamm We'll have to agree to disagree. I feel in real life there is more modulation of the revs caused by load variations on the wheels, for example when hitting curbs and bumps. Ends up sounding synthetic to me, especially on the long straights and the uphills on this track.
I got both 1440p triples and VR and triples are much easier to handle for pc hardware. Although iRacing is pretty good optimised for VR, it still needs to render everything around you instead of a 2D screen.
