I recently saw a meme on Los Angeles and how they kept adding extra lanes on the highways. But traffic is worse than ever. Because there are more people and more cars that take up a lot of space. Hopefully with the Riyadh Metro and what I imagine will be exponential development continuing to happen in Riyadh, more investments can be made into public transportation. But right on point - there are so many existing challenges in places where people actually live!
Yeah, I believe any part of structure creating ambience Or Wow factor MUST have some sort of purpose. The massive hanging cantilevers are insane and I would be very much interested to know as to how it is sadding advantage to strength, additionally like you said without any surrounding other structures How these Towers will absorb and react to Wind pressure. Even a 30meter mast for street lights has to withstand wind pressure (atleast 180KMPH (59 m/sec) for inland area And 225KMPH (62.5 m/sec) for coastal areas. Just a thought.....
Looks like they are drawing inspiration from Paul Rudolph to get a retro-futuristic style. Rudolph drew a bunch of sketches like this in the 70's and 80's.
I reckon if this was a lot of buildings that joined through the cantilevers, it would work awesomely. Creating an almost scarr. I tackled the concept, and it's a bit too futuristic. But i think a city that could possibly leach up The Lines wall would work wonders.

Yes! But they seem to also be pretending to build things! Like the Line. Also KSA is hosting the Asian winter games!! In Trojena. So that presumably would get built too. Qiddiya is another mega project with an F1 track sports venues, amusement park and more situated close to Riyadh in a crazy mountain range. And that's already well under construction. This project though, maybe after we see a more developed design. 270 m towers are not that crazy. But the big question is why in the middle of nowhere.
It's not that far-fetched based on current trade articles and trade interests, but the proof is in the pudding. The true test will be in the construction of Trojena and Sindalah which will be prooves of concept for Epicon, Leyja, et al.. Trojena has a hard deadline for the 2029 Asian Winter Games, and Sindalah will lure in the investment $$$$ (to IPO in 2024) to fund The Line, Spine, Connector, Int'l Airport, etc.. That will fund investment with engineering and material R&D for extreme "zero grav" counter-lever designs.
The ‘designers’ of this (and Norlana) have a track record of paper projects. Make pretty pictures, invoice then get out before construction stage. There is no reason to believe these projects will be any different.
Why are there no buildings? Because if they added it in model rendering, you will not be able to see those cantilevers. And they want you to see those, its like an artistic approach and they want us to appreciate those.
When you think about it and really look at what they are presenting, it is not WOW architecture. It is Landmark Architecture. They are actually trying to build landmarks on Earth. The picture is bigger than what we see.
Great video! I really like conceptual projects! but this one looks more just finding the woow factor as you said, and is more Clickbite graphic design image than actual architectural concepts

Personally, All of the 'architecture' I have seen coming from the NEOM project has been very disapointing, 'instagram' /fast architecture. It has no sustenecnce beyond its pretty images. And that is what you will get when the project is driven by super rich spoilt dictators. I read somewhere that 'the line' was originally meant to be a circle as its far more efficent (still stupid concept) but the prince wanted to make it into a 'line' as the name sounded cooler to him. These projects have no bearing or reference to their landscapes, no architectural response to the climate (will have to be full of AC) meaning everything about them is from an 'aesthetic' point of view, which gets old qiuck. Lets hope they will run out of money soon so they can save us from this nonsense.
