Another Short Video App Shuts Down.
Tiki, an app with over 100 Million downloads is shutting down as it is unable to sustain itself financially.
It was ranked among the top 30 grossing apps on the Google Play Store and stood as high as eighth among the top free social apps in India.
This points to the fact that although tens of Indian social media apps have millions of users, it's very difficult to make money.
Market leaders in this segment like Sharechat and Dailyhunt are making thousands of crores of losses every year.

It's not worth it. These apps mostly have users from the lower income category. Ads have value if the ad viewers have buying power, especially online buying power and that is almost 0 in this case.

@@anonymoushitman7739 yeah they can but how will they cover the ad costs then, since these products have very little profit margins. So at the end of the day they will make losses because ad cost is pretty high. Every time you click on a ad it cost approx anywhere from ₹10-₹100 to the advertising company, something a low cost product seller does not have the luxury to afford.

It’s not expensive but creating an efficient algorithm is. Most of these apps hire new engineers to save cost but these new engineers end up in developing shitty algorithms

I still dont understand why these losses of thousands of crores. For any application to develop and penetrate into the market and then its maintenance, why thousands of crores??? Bullshittttt
