Might have to switch to a pull type chopper cause that looks expensive if you can even find the parts for that old chopper anymore

Sorry to see how this video turned out. I'll be interested to see what you decide on this one. I'm sure there were not a lot of these produced, so parts are probably scarce. One way or the other, I know you'll get it figured out.

I'm not surprised, Even the new choppers suck Can't tell you how many times each harvest something breaks down even though you take care of it it always finds a way to break down..... It's even worse with the new ones because of the stupid computers they have and then you have to call somebody from The company of the machine to come down and fix it for you.... My farm we always have the The saying " It aint a harvest if nothing breaks down"

I hope no metal fragments made it in your silage wagon. There should be a magnet to catch metal that comes through the knives. You might go to a pull type chopper. Hope all is well. Merry Christmas

I think that the 1890 chopper unit is similar to the 890 pull type minus the cross auger. Otherwise you are probably better off looking for another chopper like an 1895,1900 or 1915 which will accept the same heads that you have.

Then there’s also the risk that a small piece of steel would be in the silage on the wagon. Would you discard of that load to prevent any chance of a cow eating a sharp piece of steel?

Only downfall to the equipment with age but i do know those did share parts with the 880 pull type so i would bet there is some parts still in the country for them since there was a decent amount of the pull types around too . Trust me it would be easier to find what you need for the over the Uni System for sure. I had to buy a mix of parts from deere and hesston to keep my uni system going and now we just machine what we need .
