Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! Today, we are called to a very unique, challenging situation. A Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck apparently rear-ends a semi truck on the Interstate, then leaves the roadway, rolls multiple times according to witnesses, and lands on its wheels over 400 yards off the interstate. There is no direct access for our trucks, and, even if there were, the ground is too soft. We pull out all of the main winch line on our Century 1150R rotator towing and recovery vehicle, and use every Yankum Rope, every red endless loop sling, every flat strap, every clevis, and every RimSling I have just to be able to reach the truck in the corn field. We also get to test our new EarTec EVADE headsets. Crystal-clear even at the distance we were having to work. A fun challenge and, also, you get to meet a new member of the crew!!! I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

When you link to loops together like that, put a piece of blocking or something between the ends so that they cannot pull -tight- and nest into a knot. will make it much easier to get them apart later, and less likely to friction-weld to each other.

For relatively light jobs like this, (really light compared to dragging a loaded semi out of a hole, I mean) it might be worth having a few hundred foot rolls (or match the usable length of the boom winches so each full pull is one extension line) of dyneema winch line with eye splices on both ends available. I wouldn't want any of the lighter sizes on that final drag, but by then you didn't need the extra length anyway. And bonus, getting it clean and coiled neatly is pretty much the traditional new guy job. :) Another thought: is there a reason not to pull both lines out at the start? My thinking is it would have saved some effort on the reset when everybody was already tired, since you could just switch to the blue winch and get right back to pulling.

Mr. Pratt, Use Lime green with red against it, marking paint to make a1 ft paint mark on your cable to show when its coming close to unspooling so that you can stay on the ground and tell. And also make hash marks at 50ft intervals to tell how far out you are. 50ft one 100ft 2 150ft 3 200 ft 4 etc. One other is to put a truck mirror up high near the cab on the back of the cab so you can view the spool.

This is a perfect example of why people should wear a seatbelt, not just because of the "serious injury", that can happen even when seat belt is used. But because it keeps you in the drivers seat with the best chance to stop or control the vehicle. If you look at 4:07 when Ron first goes to the truck the seatbelt is in the retracted position and during a bad enough impact the seat belt will lock in place permanently so we know the seat belt was not used and the driver was more than likely thrown all over the cab and had no option to even try to hit the foot/emergency brakes, put it in Neutral/Park or steer. Even with the seat belt on he may have been to disorientated from the crash/roll to do anything but at least he would have been in a position to do so if able. Luckily he went into an empty field and not on down the highway or even over/thru the cable barrier into the other side and oncoming traffic.
