Great to see your successful climbs as a heavyweight, makes me heartened for my rides in 2 weeks! For next year I have two new goals: - Burning Roads in June, which is a brevet with 210km in its "short" 😁 form, mainly flat terrain. It's not too far from me, privately organized and non-profit, and you got until like 22.00 o'clock to get to the finish, riding in groups. It sounds awesome! And since it's not a race, the marathon distance isn't quite as intimidating - one of the GFNY sportives in August - with an actual 3-day training camp a month earlier And 2020 I'd like to participate in the Mallorca312 - at least the shorter 167km distance to start...

Hi Steph, thank you. You will have to keep me updated about your Mallorca trip. Are you on Strava? Sounds like you have some great rides planned. I would also like to do the Mallorca 312, or rather the 167 next March. Maybe see you there? Have a great time in a couple of weeks.

@@jollygoodvelo Yupp, will do. If you're Leonard Lee from Portsmouth on Strava we now follow each other: I'm Stephanie from Osnabrück, GER there. Mallorca 312 will have to 2020 for me: job commitments prevent next year's vacation at that time - also, the tickets have already been sold/gone to applicants this month from what I've read. They go very quickly apparently! Though maybe they'll have complementary entries for vloggers doing promotion for the event, so you might get lucky in 2019? If so, I'll be looking forward to watching to your take on it! And maybe we'll do 2020 💪🏻

Hi there Stephanie from Osnabrück! I saw that someone called Stephanie had given me some kudos so I looked at the profile and kind of guessed that you are the same person. (I gave you some kudos as well!) I haven't been seeing your rides in my feed so not sure what is going on there. Hopefully they will show up. If you are on Facebook it would be great of you joined the Jolly Good Velo group, too. I have heard that the 312 is very popular. I've also heard that some cycle travel companies have guaranteed entries so it might be worth looking in to one of them. It might be that LoveVelo (the company that supplied our hire bikes in Mallorca) do it.

Hi Leonard. Well done ride and it's normal to get tired after long ride. last Friday I've a 97km ride with my MTB bike and I've drink around 3 to 4 L of water. the first 1.5 L with electorate mix of salt and sugar and have a break each 12km with a cup of Espresso in the way back. so from my experience water is the most important to enjoy your ride as fuel for the car. Take care and keep going

Well done with the PB 👍 Fueling is important, so make sure to take a zip of water - sports drink every 5 - 10 min. And fuel with some food regularly under the ride. Banana, energy bar, cake etc that’s easy to eat and not too much for the stomach too handle.

Thanks Tor, fuelling is indeed important. I think it differs from person to person but, essentially, bananas, energy bars and gels are pretty good.

Leonard, loving this series of vids. I’m almost starting to feel I’ve been to Mallorca and cycled round it myself! BTW, is it true that “the water in Majorca (Mallorca) doesn’t taste quite like what it oughta (to)”? :)

I’m not sure it’s a simple question to answer. If you have all of the other essential gadgets such as heart rate and cadence sensors and you feel that you have advanced all you can with those, and you can afford an expensive power sensor, why not?

riding with the sun on your back is always conductive to riding better!..the scenery looks smashing and the ride's too...what was you pushing gear wise on that long climb? here I use 34-32 for most of my hard climbs...

As far as I am aware, we were using 34/28’s. Your gear ratio sounds like it might help me spin a little faster up the climbs.

Perhaps I wasn’t very clear: I rarely drink plain water. I would always prefer something with a bit of flavour to it such as weak squash or hydration tabs.

Hi Kim, while we were riding we had energy bars but we also make frequent refreshment stops at cafes. I developed a real craving for carbonated water: couldn’t drink enough of it! In the evening a we just ate regular food in restaurants. There was no nutrition plan. We just wanted to enjoy it rather than eat with specific nutritional goals.

Hi Leonard. Ok brill. I too took to sparkling water when I worked away. In times of no time to eat! I found it a good appetite suppressant. If is also very refreshing. I guess you were in warm weather, so more demanding on drink than food. Rgds.
