People know you're a serious beer drinker when you have a locking bottle opener!

This is interesting. With all the qc arguments between case and gec fans we have victorinox. The company by this point has probably made many millions of knives and I can't remember hearing anything bad said about them, ever. All at imho an insanely low price point.

The older model had a serrated blade which is perhaps better suited for cutting bread, although not so easy to sharpen. Also the new lock is arguably better than the old slide lock. Not sure if the new one is sold as a set with the fork and spoon though. Another great knife for picnics is the cheese knife which basically adds...you guessed it, a fold out cheese knife to the tool set....although it must be said that not all the cheese knife models have the same tools. These picnic knives are ideal for hiking to your picnic spot rather than if you were driving with a basket full of individual tools dedicated for each task.

Since I have the Swisschamp, I still have no motivation to get any other Victorinox. My Swisschamp completely covers all of my needs, whereas any other Victorinox doesn't.

If you like this picknicker, you should definitely get the pre 2017 picknicker. Model 8853. It has a slide lock, bit lighter, more solid, hole in the owl.

I love my picknicker, I have the older one with the slide lock, which I prefer.

I have an old version of the Picnicker. I **LOVE** the serrated blade but not so much the lock switch and the white printed Swiss Army logo (I prefer the metal imbedded one). When I bought this knife 25 years ago, I thought I had been screwed over because I wasn't going for such a nice piece (wanted a simpler knife, certainly not Swiss Army). Well, I have been carrying this knife with me ever since and am so happy I got "screwed" that one time I went to buy a knife 😁.

Yep, it's in my opinion superior to the new one. Carried one for 20 years, lost it in the uk, locked blades are not legal. Ordered a fresh picknicker and that is not it. If Anything, i would like a lock on the can opener for locking the "philips" screwdriver.

Excellent choice. Victorinox makes A+ products. Simple, classy and most importantly.. highly functional. Not sure if you know about the "Firefly & Tender" ferro rod you can get *or* some smaller screw drivers.. that slip/screw into the corkscrew.. but both options are great. The eye glasses flathead is nice & so is the small ferro rod. Good overview by the way

Lock on the wrong side. Big mistake. I bought the Sentinel and I regret it. I wish I would have stuck to my wonderful Kershaw Chil.

That is a cool SAK. A while back I was looking for a 111mm SAK and the Treker was what I decided I wanted because of the one hand opening feature. However I couldn't seem to find one with a plain blade so I ended up getting a Rangergrip 78 which I like but I would still like a 111mm class sak. That Picnicer is nice. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it.

I've been meaning to get a Picnicker for years. In fact, for so long I had it on my Amazon Wish List back when it had the serrated blade and the switch lock. But I think the liner lock is probably superior, and that beefier locking pry bar/screwdriver is definitely superior. I've always been a fan of the Spartan and a giant Spartan is pretty cool. So it fits in the bottom of your pocket pretty well?
@markcoffman494
@markcoffman494 3 года назад
Because of the curvature of the handle I barely notice it’s there of course I keep it in my back pocket if you were to keep it with your keys or with your phone I would be worried about knocking against those not really worried about the knife getting damaged it’s just more stuff in the pocket. However it being in my back pocket I barely notice it’s there. I think you should definitely get it it’s a great piece

I EDC a Handyman almost every single day I think it is one of the most utility focused Victorinox Knives you can buy. While at the same time keeping it light enough to keep in your pocket. If it was any bigger or heavier I’d have to keep it on a belt sheath. Would love to see the video when you get it! Glad to hear from you I hope all things are well!

Newer Victorinox Craftsman knives have the same tool set with a back scale Philips. Unfortunately, it is not currently in production, but can be found on the secondary market. The older ones lacked the pliers Also, the screw driver on the can opener makes a decent Philip's driver
@doejon9424

The Climber is my favorite Victorinox model. I prefer scissors over a file or none locking saw. & the secondary backup blade. The back Philips screwdriver(s) sounds good, but in practice they are very awkward to use so I always go for the corkscrew. You guys should look into the small "Firefly" ferro rod *or* the small flat head driver that screw into the corkscrew! They have a set of 4 different bits or a three pack of flat heads.

I currently have 2 huntsman, 1 workchamp, 1 swiss tool, 1 one handed forester, and 1 rambler thats on my keychain with a benchmade mini bugout, I find that for EDC i have to attach everything to my keychain or Ill lose it, what do you think of the mini bug out, and have you seen the victorinox one handed trekker and forester ?

Great review, enjoyed it. Would be great to have the Spartan in a bigger more robust package like with the Picnicker. I feel the same way about the locking main blade and screw driver, really important to me. Have you considered the Evolution S17 which is an 85 mm with similar tool set as the Huntsman but with locking main blade and auto locking bottle opener/flat head? I wanted an EDC with scissors and wood saw, and Huntsman seemed like the best fit in a medium Victorinox, but lacked locking blade so I got the S17 instead. I highly recommend it and if you ever get one, would love to hear your thoughts on it, especially after owning the Huntsman for comparison. Only downside with the Evolution S17, is the Wenger scissors which I don't think perform as well as the Huntsman scissors, but still functional and not bad. I think the S17 would be slightly more compact due to it's shorter profile and it appears to be lighter than the Huntsman according to the Victorinox website, and it comes with the iconic and traditional corkscrew which I prefer too.

I haven’t thought about that model. When it comes to the Delamont collection I’m a little hesitant only because the scales are different from the standard Victorinox Knife. Finding replacements can be difficult. And I have found that they are not as robust. However you are completely right it is a great package and having the locking blade is definitely great fits into many restrictive Knife laws as well when it comes to blade length.

Well they do. They make a few models that are very similar. But they don’t make them exactly the same. The tools will be different shapes but it would basically be the same tool set up.

Almost all the Victorinoxes with corkscrews have alternate versions with the Phillips instead. In this case, they call that the Adventurer.
