At last another tune with Michel! Don't mind the whimsical title - we recorded this little piece last week, upon hearing of iconic French New Wave actress Anouk Aimée's passing at the age of 92... If you're a big Fellini fan like me, you'll doubtless have seen her in La Dolce Vita and Otto e mezzo, two of Fellini's greatest masterpieces.
Hope you enjoy this rather meditative little tune - and get to forget, however briefly, about the seemingly ineluctable rise of fascism in France, and in many other places, we're seeing these days...

A really nice and meditative tune, back to the mighty original duet of Urbuli and Michel !! I can see the prophetic words of light and hope against the conservative political forces that could drive us into deep silliness. The New Front Populaire couldn't agree more on Michel and Urbuli's intricated lines, while Leon Blum should be undoubtedly dancing from its grave! I see this as the omen of tonight's results, let there be rock, let there be free jazz!!

En liberté provisoire? espérons que non ! , car si l'on en croit cette tendance nauséabonde qui empoisonne nos chaumières, il y a de quoi se cogner la tête contre un mur. Une joie de vous entendre , de constater que des esprits libres osent écraser de leurs sons , de leurs cris, de leurs rêves , de leurs générosités, de leur invention sans filet, d'écraser tous ces fruits amers. Merci Michel et Baptiste pour ces trésors qui ne demandent rien en retour que le miracle d'être en vie !

Anouk liked areca nuts " / I really like this title! and we loved the great Anouk Aimée just as much. Could Caux be the capital of Free-Jazz, of music in freedom? On provisional release? Let's hope not! , because if we are to believe this nauseating tendency that poisons our cottages, it is enough to bang your head against a wall. A joy to hear you, to see that free spirits dare to crush with their sounds, their cries, their dreams, their generosity, their generosity, of their invention without a net, to crush all these bitter fruits. I love how at times this is so quiet it's barely there - that wonderful sense of space and how your playing intersects the silence that surrounds it. There's also a beautiful clarity to the playing. Simple and direct, spiritual and uplifting. I came onto my veranda to enjoy this one with a coffee, surrounded by plants and the relatively fresher air out here. The second the video started, so did the rain, which annoyed me, but the piece is so happy ... the light patter of raindrops on leaves became like some beautiful surface noise on a tape or record. A great start to the day! Thank you!

Thanks a million, Paul! so sorry i'm replying so late, I'm a bit all over the place these days, and often away from home! lots of concerts and opportunities to play or jam unexpectedly cropping up... (Shall meet Christopher R C this Sunday btw, as he's playing a gig near my area!) I'm very glad this felt like an adequate match for a rainy day, Michel and I always try (not even fully consciously at this point) to absorb the sounds of the surrounding elements into our jams... the wind blowing, the birds chirping, now the cicadas stridulating louder than ever!

You fellas build up such an atmosphere and it's recorded so well that I feel like I'm in there with you. Mesmerising. 👍 While not a film buff I have seen Anouk Aimée' in films and what a fine actor she was. As for the politics, all I can say is France is no way alone in having politicians who are quick to blame the most vulnerable in any society whilst ignoring corruption of all sorts higher up the ladder!!!!

Thanks so much! so sorry, got busy and I'm only replying to unanswered comments just now! I must confess last week was pretty tense, as the prospect of a far right government loomed large, but luckily in the meantime people on the left worked hard to ensure this wouldn't happen, and the final results were surprisingly better than expected! but there's still no denying that fascism and racism are on the rise pretty much everywhere just the same...

Le free jazz est une musique fluide, jamais prédéterminée. C'est cette prodigieuse improvisation du vivant qui fait naître des surfaces sonores. La nature aussi est improvisatrice, elle n'aime pas la ligne droite. Le free jazz l'exprime, le free jazz lui ressemble.
