This was really looking like it was going to answer the important question of, "If the probe is set to a lower temperature to achieve a delta cook, will the oven temperature automatically lower to prevent the meats core temp from climbing over the desired internal temp. But them boom, just before that gets answered, attention got turned away from the cook, then we some time later, saw a cut back to what looked like modified settings to manually compensate for the shift. I think? Is that what happened? The whole thing left me confused. I guess I will just try it myself tomorrow. This could have been so informative. Thanks for trying anyway. We still appreciate you.
Thanks for this; it looks like the device functions correctly as a home solution to the combi-oven. I feel the ease of use compared to the need for vacuum sealing vs sous vide makes this very worthwhile.
Thank you for taking the time to make the video -I use sous vide quite a lot & watching the video has helped me decide that this appliance isn't for me. One can see that there are flaws & the process of use seems fairly clunky & problematic.... Saved me a lot of money there ! So thank you again.
Looks good. I'm glad it looks like the steam control really works. I've been looking for an at home Combo Oven for years and it looks like this will do the trick. Thanks for the video. I hope you get the app working.
Can you test out other applications for this beyond SV? Searing with the upper element on full blast, dehydrating jerkey or fruit, proofing/baking breads, traditional toaster oven, etc. ? Seems like a very versatile oven.
Thank you for the video. I have been on the fence about buying the oven and the only videos with cooking have been made by the company. You are the first I have found made by the customer.
The best tool I found to cook prime steak is Greenspan’s grill pan plus a steak press. It takes about 5 minutes to cook a good piece of steak. It always cooks perfectly, like out of gas grill. It’s super easy to clean bc it’s ceramic nonstick. I have induction cooktop so not sure whether it makes a difference in the experience. Oven is for roast not steak pieces. Just saying. It’s an awesome oven makes no mistake. It looks so sleek. It’s tempting for me to buy one.
I would like to replace my Cuisinart combo oven with this unit, but I have the most ridiculous concern; will it make toast? Regular, every day toast...
Looks good and so glad for the first real world review. You don't talk about how you found the process vs sous vide vs reverse sear in the oven. Easier / better etc? It looks like this is a big win over sous vide (I always have issues with the packing and water leak). Personally, I would always finish in the pan for the aromatics but well done for posting.
Appears like it takes too long finishing it off with the searzall. a screaming' hot cast iron pan or on my flat top would be my choice over the searzall. I think it would do a better job. Faster and more even. I think the only advantage using the torch is that you can get the edges of that beautiful steak done better and easier than the pan method.
The searzall is less of a torch and more of a broiler. It is excellent for giving an extraordinarily even sear. His method for using the searzall was not what I would recommend. You're supposed to wave it back and forth slowly over the meat. My preference is to use the Su-V gun alone or sear in cast iron a bit with some tallow and go over it quickly with the searzall. To each their own though.
It makes no sense to cook it at a higher temperature, that's not how sous vide is supposed to work. Might as well just bake it. The higher oven temp should make outer layers of the meat too hot as the center reaches the goal=overcooked. Just do it right!
Just received my oven however I may have to return it. In the manual it states that the unit should not be near cabinetry. There is no spot to place the oven in my kitchen without it being under the cabinets. Bummer.
Interesting, but judicious editing and voice-over narration should have brought this down to 8 minutes. WAY too long and slow. And that Searzall seems like a useless gadget.
