I'm glad that Kate isn't insecure like she is in the book. I really didn't like that part or the wedding night speech that Anthony gives her either. So glad that's been cut. I was worried about the whole process of Anthony's flashbacks with his father and wished they had simply hired a younger actor to play a teenage Anthony instead of trying to de-age Anthony. Lately, I think de-aging tech has just been cringe-worthy all-around in several different shows and movies. I'm just very glad to hear that Anthony and Kate are basically two people who are similar with lots in common super attracted to each other but fighting that attraction and all the build-up tension. That's the thing I care about most with their relationship because I always loved their book chemistry, so glad to hear that the chemistry is still as amazing as it always was.

Hi everyone, totally excited about the show especially because of the Indian representation. So the Haldi ceremony is a pre wedding ritual perfomed in Indian weddings as a purification ritual. Haldi is the name that we use for the colour yellow in a lot of Indian languages. It's done to bless, purify and essentially provide a glow to the bride and groom. Traditionally,the haldi paste is made with turmeric and sandalwood which help essentially provide a glow. It can be intimate and restricted to a few people or can include various people. These days it's often a combined event where it develops into a huge water fight and is fun for everyone involved. Hope this helps.

@@LadyJenevia Yes it is alot of fun, it used to traditionally be just women applying the paste as shown in the scenes but now it's more a full fledged wedding event with elaborate plans and a lot of colours.

I would love Benedict as a funny male love interest in the next season. I haven't read the books, but Benedict is my favorite sibling from the show (season 1) because he is SO adorable! The actor's smile is just so infectious!

He’s going to have a Cinderella themed season and there’s a bit of a time skip hopefully he doesn’t come off as as much of a dick as he did in the book and Benedict meets his love interest at a masquerade ball and Penelope is dress as a leprechaun if there’s one thing that I don’t what changed it’s that it just entertains me

Count me in on appreciating that they didn't include the insecurity about looks from the book this time. I was insecure for the first few decades of my life too, I get it and I do like seeing it represented, but it doesn't have to be the source of every woman's flaws. It's Kate's confidence and unabashed self-expression that attracts Anthony and I think that is sexy as hell.

Hi. I just wanted a safe space to bring up a very disturbing thing I noticed on Netflix India Instagram. I saw a lot of people complaining about allegedly Indians always being "too" brown in foreign shows. I don't get it. We don't get representation in our own film industry(unless its an art film or the brown woman is over sexualized). And these people have problem with a foreign show giving us that much needed representation. I am sure that it is difficult being brown in a white country but it is harder to be 'too' brown in a brown country.

Thank you for sharing! I'm not as familiar with the output of India's film industry but I've heard this problem mentioned by others before. I hope that people who have been made to feel degraded by those colourist beauty standards will feel inspired seeing Simone and Charithra and Shelley on the show because they are all terrific. ❤️ I don't think entertainment media on its own is enough to dismantle this sort of deeply ingrained bigotry but hopefully it can help to chip away at it a little more. Casting to be "superficially inclusive" is not helpful when it's executed without a deeper understanding of the many facets of colourist hierarchies. It's never JUST about "attractiveness". There's more or less always other things that intersect with the historical origins of those attitudes, such as but not limited to economic oppression, colonial invasion/violence, etc. But in the case of Bridgerton, it's not only three South Asian women being visible on screen; it's the fact that they are three-dimensional women full of so much love for each other. It's beautiful to watch, and I hope you and others will enjoy what they brought to this season. 💐

This is soo true, our film industries often will glorify the lighter skinned brown woman even to the extent where a fair complexion is prefered even for the role of a draker complextion and cause instances of darkening people's skin . This is good representation and we must enjoy it.

@@LadyJenevia I'm so grateful for ur reply. I think we should also praise Netflix for casting 2 brown actresses with the same skin shade. They could have easily selected a lighter skinned brown actress for Edwina and shown it as a reason for why she is considered the season's incomparable and Kate is insecure of her looks(though that part has been rightfully omitted in the show) but they didn't. They just stuck to their characters for making that distinction. I am guessing that in the show Kate is too bold and confident of herself so men feel intimidated by her or even better she simply just isn't interested in marriage as to why she is still a spinster.

I loved the characters in the series vastly better then the decades old romance trope of dominant male character and a very uncomfortable line of consent. Love your review and how positive it is! I am a book fan but also excited to see different scenes and a different take on Kathony. Also, glad that you pointed out how problematic Anthony’s behaviour can be in the book and I’m so glad it’s not in the show. Stepping on Kate’s hand? Threatening to throttle Lady Featherington? Not what I want to see!

I’m glad you didn’t even think there to be a love triangle. I think the main reason there was that arguing on Twitter, was because a certain reviewer said that there was a strain between Edwina and Kate in the show and that they didn’t like Edwina and called her bratty. Not to mention the haldi ceremony clip that was released concerns a lot of books fans because Edwina and Anthony never get engaged, the relationship never went that far, I personally think as a viewer and book reader that I won’t be pleased if that’s the case and Anthony breaks off the wedding at the last moment to confess his feelings for Kate because that’s really cliche. Other than that your video helped calm my nerves a little about certain plot points etc…

If every character in a story constantly gets along and never disagrees or has any type of friction that would be incredibly boring. There is an arc. That is the most vague but still accurate way of describing it. There is an arc and I enjoyed watching it. Kate, Anthony, and Edwina all have arcs and get to develop as characters beyond just who they do (or don't) end up with in the end.

2:24 - To be fair, I don't think the show can be blamed for Colin and Penelope not coming off as friends. In the book, it is stated that although "friends", they were more acquaintances. It isn't until the fourth book when Colin comes back from one of his many trips that they become real friends and eventually he begins to see her in a new light. Also, I'm glad to hear Anthony isn't a jerk to Kate in the series. In the books every male character (but one) sucked. If they managed to avoid making Anthony a jerk then I hope that the main male lead of the fifth book's personality is completely changed because I HATE HIM.

I haven't seen the drama on Twitter but even in the book I don't consider the plot to be a love triangle AT ALL. The plot is very much about developing the relationship between the two leads vs their sense of duty and their own insecurities and beliefs. So I'm not worried about that, I was more so confused as to why so many ppl assumed that ^^"

@@jojolady95 I think most people assumed that because the haldi ceremony was being performed on Edwina and not Kate. Which means Edwina is the one getting married and in the books they never got engaged. Which makes fans think the bee scene was changed etc

@@jojolady95 don't think this aged well... I was really sad to see how dirty they did Edwina, in the books she never had feelings for Anthony. But in the show it got really bad, and the romance was (in my opinion) a little uncomfortable, while the sisters friendship was ruined and the Bridgerton family almost being ruined. It seemed so stupid. They could have handled it a bit better. Also all the back and forth didn't do the fans justice! For example Kate and Anthony arguing about the engangement soooo many times, it seemed ridiculous. When they met in the forrest to talk about it for example, they could have left that out. But nope, we had to have that again. And so predictable - Kate had to fall of a horse and get hurt, much like Daphne did. So unnecessary. Sorry for the long comment, I'm just really sad

@@Sarah-sm2kg I agree. I was very glad that they left some of the book things out (like book Anthony's more toxic traits) but I do wish they hadn't changed Edwina's story so much. They did her so wrong. In the book, it was clear that there was no sisterly betrayal because Edwina didn't really care about Anthony, she was just doing her duty in finding a suitable match so that her family would be financially secure. But the show was much murkier and I really disliked how much that impacted the sisters' relationship. I'm glad they found their way back to each other in the end but I do think it was unnecessary. Why did they let it go all the way to the altar before stopping? But anyway, I actually did really enjoy the season still and will always love Anthony and Kate together. Just wish the show hadn't leaned so hard on the love triangle aspect.

@@LadyJenevia thanks for calming the waters... you have done a great job tactfully pointing out that some of the book stuff shows the length of time since it was written...don't think Julia Quinn would write some of it today - more current books emphasize consent. At first when CBD mentioned sex scenes last season serving a purpose, I thought "what?" But then thought, "well that whole ..uh, contraceptive element may have required us to see it and fully see that Daphne didn't get it." I suspect that even though I loved the VWLM book, as written, I can see why changes might be needed for the screen (which almost always happens!)

The way I'm living for all these little tidbits in preparation for Friday.... I admit to feeling a little lukewarm about Polin as a couple at present. They just don't have enough actual screentime (yet) to make me feel like there's anything there but Pen pining and Colin being completely oblivious. Also, I do hope that whatever "transformation" Pen undergoes in the show (S4) for Colin to finally notice her, it does not include losing weight. Too cliché imo and totally unnecessary. P.S: Did the show give any indication that Benedict is next in line to find romance? (Like they showed the bee at the end of S1 which kinda alluded to Anthony.) Love your channel!

Teasing, hinting, and tidbits are always a better way to go imo when reviewing something pre-premiere. I think it's really awful to just info-dump all of the details of something when people have worked as hard as they have to bring a story to life with several months/years of labour! 👀 The only exception I think is a reasonable cause to spoil something specific pre-premiere is if you are someone who specifically reports on an outlet that covers things like content warnings/parental guidance. 🚨 But Bridgerton season 2 is pretty easy to hype up because there's lots of characters, lots of material, and lots of fun things to get people excited about! 😊✨

I cannot root for Pen and Colin. I'm sure that people who identify with her plight find favor with her. I don't really like her. She's a narcissist, created out of neglect. These people have a twisted pathology where they do things that hurt people but find ways to justify it as this paramour of virtue. She's gossiping for crying out loud, and she's the low ball of a gaudy grifting family but she's not revealing their mess. Just because she's neglected societally that doesn't entitle her to throw people under the bus selectively. In reality, she misses things she should know and respond to, because her primary is acceptance from her oppressive family, therefore she failed in this season for me. Her tears are political and unmoving. I shrill every time she's near Colin and Eloise. Cringe. With that said, she has room for redemption. I'm open to give her a chance come S3. But I don't have a lot of hope.

I can understand that perspective! I'm sort of lounging somewhere in the middle where I definitely don't condone her many wrongdoings in writing what she does in tabloid but I also think that female characters in fiction need to be given more freedom and space to NOT always be "likeable" and perfectly "do the right thing" because male characters can be completely scumbags and celebrated for it. I also figure that they're deliberately starting her off at a place where she has to learn, grow, evolve, etc. so that she doesn't have to sit stagnant for __ number of episodes before she gets to be the main girl of the season. 😆

I agree with this perspective. It’s hard for me to root for her. I get the reasons she acts the way she does, however, she would have to do a ton of growth in healing the toxicity she currently embodies. The argument with Eloise did it for me. So much gaslighting. Super-narcissistic.
