My first season as a wildland firefighter I’ve been scratching my brain on how I’m going to handle being on my period. So thank you and honestly wouldn’t mind a more in-depth video on staying hygienic / disposing on the fire line and all. Thank you!

My adult daughter and I were backpacking a strenuous section of of the Pacific Crest Trail in the North Cascades. It was so strenuous that her period came unexpectedly. She had nothing with her so she tried moss-better than nothing but not much. A fellow hiker from a different group supplied her needs. It was an arduous trip!!

The boot question gave me flash backs to when I started in 08’. I was super broke and had to borrow a friends old backup pair till my first check hit the bank. Good times.

I worked over 30 years in wild land firefighting. Some veterans of fires would bring two pairs of fire boots so that if one pair started to bother their feet they would just change boots the next day to keep their feet happy.

Sometimes it can take a while. I had some people last year say they waited a few months to hear back. I hope you hear something soon though 🙏

@@wildlandfirefit Crispi anchor points are a great hiker that is fire rated. Kenetrex also makes a hiker fire boot. Two differences between the logger(whites/ nicks/ Drew's/ JK) and the hikers; weight and heel. Hikers will be a little lighter than loggers. I think the army says 5lb on the foot is 10lb on the back, so something to consider. The other difference is the heel. Loggers have a tall heel, part of what makes them loggers, a hiker has a much lower heel. This comes into use when hiking down hill. The logger heal allows you to dig in better and not slid as bad compared to the hiker. A side note, you can get logger style boots with a low heel now. What ever you choose, get the right size, properly fitted and broken in before season.
