You’ve honestly learned something that most parents never learn. How to be the kids friend, as well as be able to discipline fairly. There’s a fine line. Too far to one side, you’ll let your kid do whatever they want without consequences, too far to the other, your kid is afraid of you and doesn’t trust you. You perfectly balanced that line. I'm 5 years older than my brother, and my younger brother hates me, but I'd do anything to protect and spoil him. So the 5 year age gap may not be such a bad idea!
My mom was 41 when she had me and my sister had my niece at like 20 now me and my niece are the same age and her mom is my sister and my mom is her grandma
From a developmental standpoint, disciplining a one year old is more about showing them regulation skills, self-soothing and calming down when they have big emotions. So, one minute calm down breaks is a good strategy. However, the baby’s brain is still operating more on survival instincts and they don’t have the ability for concrete or abstract thoughts. This means that many of their behaviors are able to be disciplined. I’m not a parent, but this is my career so, take that as you will.
Lol. The age gap with my me and siblings is huge. My oldest brother is 28, my second oldest brother is 25, I am 16, my younger brother is 12 my youngest brother is 8 and y baby sister is 1. We get along for the most part.
