Ant of Atmosphere Pt.1 (FULL VIDEO) on The Travelers Podcast 

Ant is one of the GOATs of the decks. Him and Abilities are two of the most exceptional producers whose music I've been lucky enough to digest all these years.

I loved this interview. I met Ant very briefly backstage in Wisconsin this summer on a Afterparty tour we did with Spray Allen, Eric Wilson of Sublimes other band. We followed Atmosphere, Sublime with Rome, and Slightly Stoopid and did shows in each city after they played with Eric. Ant had a great vibe to him. I liked hearing about the criminality element because I had that too. I was doing opiates and stealing and robbing and got caught at 19. Cleaned my life around and started my band. Thank you brother Ali and Ant for the vulnerability.

I have been down with Atmosphere for 20 something years, this is the first time I hear Ant speak besides "Hello" once at a show..what a trip!

I've met Ant a couple of times around town. Such a cool and humble dude! Minneapolis and the world for the matter, are so lucky to have The Rhymesayers!

After enjoying his work for decades, this may be the first time I have ever heard him speak. What a treat. Glad you had him on, Brother.

Ant's cool as hell. I met him outside The House of Blues in Dallas. A lot of people were starstruck and we weren't. I think he appreciated that because he invited us behind the ropes and bullshitted with us for like 45 minutes. It was just normal conversation. My friend Corey texted me and I told him we were hanging with Ant. He came up starstruck and started asking a bunch of questions about producing Love Life. It got weird after that so we bounced. Shout out to Ant!!

This is the first time I've ever heard Ant's voice! Great interview! Nice to get to know him a little better. One of my all-time favorite producers.

Ant was a very early inspiration to me as a hiphop producer. This really reminded me of my father was very solid and funny but also extremely harsh. This was a great interview salute to rhyme sayers. I remember never meeting Ant we drove very far to a atmosphere show in Chicago at the Metro and it also happen to be the shadows on the sun release party and I heard some of those songs live for the first time and it was amazing and I got to meet Ant too that night can’t believe that was 20yrs ago.

One of the greatest and most underrated hip hop producers of all time in my opinion. And his work has only gotten better as the years have gone on. Thank you for this one Ali!

Thank you for this, Brother. been following all you guys from new zealand for almost 20 years. I'm a hifi and hip-hop nerd from way back. I love Ant's production style. I don't think there is anyone in the scene that cam make tracks that sound so huge, so intimate, so dynamic and exquisite to the ear. his tracks accompanied by the people he works with... whew. To my mind only Outkast comes close for sheer truth and enjoyment of a song. so it's real lovely to finally see a bit of Ant and him being himself. Definitely going to check out the podcast. In my humble and informed opinion, Ant is the greatest producer of hip-hop of all time. It was Ant’s beats that lured me to Rhymesayers almost 20 years ago and if you know me, you know I rock * hard * with Atmosphere and Brother Ali. I’m so grateful for this podcast, and all things created by Brother Ali, because of the authentic space he holds for anyone he interacts with. And we all know the homie Ant doesn’t do interviews, so I’m sincerely grateful for every minute of this episode; it was such a beautiful glimpse into the inner workings and life of such a gifted soul walking his purpose on this planet.

Went to their show last night in Indy. After their set he walked by in the crowd. Luckily my wife saw him and I yelled out his name. He turned around and came over. Cool dude and the best producer in my book.

I forget sometimes but I actually hung out with Ant when Atmosphere did a show at the Paladium in Los Angeles back in 2009. Eyedea opened up and I was able to meet Eyedea after the show briefly and tell him his new album is dope. I think Ant smoked weed with me and these girls I met at the show as well but I could be mistaken lol Ant inspired me so much I still kinda make beats like him tbh Atmosphere is all I would listen to in my late teens and 20s tbh and I got more of his Vinyl and know more about Atmosphere than anyone I know.

I'm from the 612 and relate so much to what Ant is personally laying out. Thank you for sharing brother.

To hear Ant speak of growing up as a military kid was brilliant. My experience was similar, although my Dad was in the Australian air force. Still, its nice to hear him talk of those times and recognise the similarities with my childhood experience. He is also one of the producers who continues to inspire me and my own production. Big ups to you, Brother Ali and to Ant for this interview. Looking forward to Part 2.

Subbed, did not know about the pod, have to say I gotten so much people addicted to Atmoshpere / Ant / Brother Ali, cuz just like you discuss here, I would always say, wanna listen to real Hiphop? Physiological and philosophically real, then you need authentic artists. And as Ant says, creating a space where you feel safe and able to be vulnerable is where the best art is created. Authenticity, it's what makes people beautiful and highly interesting.

Great stuff. I would have loved to see a studio tour and maybe some insights into the making of certain beats.
