That looked exhausting. I've stuck heavy equipment before and it takes a lot to get it out. The hagglunds BV206 is an amazing vehicle however and I doubt many other vehicles could've survived going through the ice.
Didn’t know these couldn’t be recovered from the rear. Makes me want a Sherp instead. Saw lots of different tracked vehicles in Eureka, but haven’t been to the South Pole yet. Thanks for sharing.
The tracks comprise 2/3 of the width of the vehicle. To widen the tracks you would have to either make the vehicle extremely difficult to turn and have no space for a traditional differential or you would make the overall width too wide for road, rail and air transport.
@@KJ6EAD I don't see why the diff could not be partially inside the track, as long as there's enough space for the axle from gear box to differential and sufficient attachments between the tracks.
