Happens every year. It's a seasonal occurance. The ice expands into the sea in winters and retracts come spring. Though the length of seasons is being affected by climate change, as well as weather patterns.

We, humans, are very egotistic and take everything for granted. We don't consider other living forms in any way. Thankful because of rough weather conditions humans haven't colonized Antarctica.
