More great discoveries on the nesting habits. Loved the footage of the Dusky juniors in the nest. The wattles in the background showed off the Aussie bush to a treat. Delighted to see your grandkids enjoying your little mates. I'm sure they'll be great advocates for spreading the word about Antechinus and people will be stunned at their knowledge - even pronouncing the word with confidence. Super video, thanks Derek.

You're a true naturalist: learning extensively, sharing excitedly! I've always loved your nesting boxes (I wonder if there are high video-quality solar trailcams so you wouldn't have to swap out so many batteries. I don't even know if you get enough sunshine for that to work reliably though). Always makes me want to build a nesting box too! Excited for your projects-loving your content. Always something new to learn, right? Thanks for sharing. 🤙

Hi Derek. My wife and I were out walking a bush trail the other day at Anakie Gorge and I was bemoaning the fact that we had never (ever!) seen an Antechinus in the wild. I said to her “How does Derek do it? How does he see them and even film them?” She said “he is patient and must sit and wait for hours just being quiet”. Anyway, after about another hour of walking along the track, we decided it was getting late in the afternoon so we would head back. We sat for a quick 5min rest at the turnaround point and lo and behold, guess whst made an appearance? An Antechinus!!!! About 3-4 metres away from us. It disappeared within about 10 sec but we have finally seen one in the wild. What a thrill! On the way back down the track we caught 3-4 glimpses of a different Antechinus about 3 metres off the track, and then came across a really dark coloured (large) wallaby in a clearing that checked us out for a good 30sec before bounding off over a creek and effortlessly up the hill as we stood silently and watched. Lovely afternoon in the Aussie bush!
