Thirty years ago, I was heading out the causeway to the island for the Buffalo roundup early in the morning. There was a heavy fog as we approached the island, so I was driving very slowly with the headlights on. When out of the shadows sprang the absolutely biggest racked buck I have ever seen!. The whole scene was over in a split second. But I will never forget the monstrous size of the antlers. The girth at the base. the length of the brow tines. the length of the beams with drop tines and graceful sweep up into the longest set of symmetrical points. Still, to this day, it gives me goose bumps.
