WATCH IN HD, please. (turn on the CC for ENG subtitles)
“He looked at him and looked at him, staring at him for hours, barely blinking.
And when he left the room, he left with a new vision of his own life, and new knowledge about his own mortality. Edmund Bridgerton had died at the age of thirty-eight. And Anthony simply couldn’t imagine ever surpassing his father in any way, even in years.”
I said I would edit a Kathony video but I had this Anthony centered video planned for some time. I really can't complain about the way they decided to show Anthony's trauma over his father's death and how much it affected him. The way the show showed that he was the one who had to immediately take over the family and that thanks to him, everyone didn't succumb, was brilliant - even better than in the book. I can't wait to see more about him, even though the other seasons don't focus on him - I just need to see him being the father the brothers will never have again. His little scene with Hyacinth and Gregory was so beautiful.
Anyways, enjoy the video and sorry for some errors.

I can't imagine hearing your own mother tell you that she wished she'd died in labour because she couldn't live with her grief. We expect our parents to be the strong ones, and it's like the world drops out from under you when they're the ones that need YOU to be strong instead. And to Anthony she was also saying she wished HE'd killed her, because her death was one of the options the doctor gave him, and legally at the time it was his choice. He probably felt like she blamed him for the fact that she was alive, even if that's not how she meant it.

My heart broke so much for Anthony this season. the entire family was allowed to fall apart and succumbed to the grief of losing their father and he still a child that had to lost his father as well had to become the grown up one left in charge and overwhelmed. I didn't love or understand him in the first season but now he really is a favorite of mine that I admire and that I´d love to give a hug 🥺 everyone was so mean, telling him he did a bad job when he was just a kid overwhelmed by his tasks and with endless suppressed grief

@@ronaldcox3137 Their grief is different, Simon may not have been close to his father but Lady Danbury took him under her wig and always tried to be certain he would be ok, while Anthony was close to both his parents, but suddenly he lost his father and now out of the blue he had to act as the head of the family and make tough decisions like when the doctor asked him to either save his mother or his baby sister.

At 18 he had to take on the responsibility of the family, the estate, the house, the finances all while he was grieving. Of course he had stewards, servants and so on but the ultimate decisions were with him so none of that rubbish of not delegating. my heart broke so much for the young Anthony who witnessed his father’s death, and was forced to grow up much earlier to become the head of his family. When everyone was given enough time to mourn, he was given a huge responsibility. He carried all the pain in his heart, which caused him to change and deviate from who he really was. Meeting Kate was like a breath of fresh air for Anthony, who was so busy drowning from all the traumas of his past, and the weariness from being the eldest child. I am so glad that they both had a happy ending, because they really deserve to have one after all what they’ve been through.

How much did Simon know and understand about Anthony's journey? Keep in mind, that he is also in a great deal of despair about his marriage to Daphne, Anthony's sister, so he wants to have the upper hand in any way that he can. Simon is human, after all, with flaws like most of us. Remember, it was Anthony who wanted to marry his sister off to that horrible Lord Berbrooke. What's great about this show is the writers have allowed us to understand why these characters behave the way they do.

Season 2 completely changed my view and thoughts on Anthony. His entire attitude in Season 1 explains so much. He did not want love in his life because he never wanted to cause such grief to his wife if he died unexpectedly or grief to himself if he ever lost his wife. He knew the duty he had to fulfill; Anthony was doing all he could to do so and not acting with his heart. Then Kate entered his life, shifting his heart as much he shifted Kate’s heart. Anthony and Kate were two sides of the same coin. I think Anthony’s father be proud of him. Thanks for uploading. A job well done. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

honestly they all treated him terribly. It breaks me how he's given up everything for them and continues to do so knowing that they all to some degree hate him. i loved how they showed boys' struggles, specially when they're the eldest and are supposed to be the "man of the house". How they grow up too fast, carry the entire family's load, and are held responsible for anything that happens to his siblings (specially the girls)

They change the book too much for by test Anthony had aunts and uncle from his father side of the family his father had two sisters and one uncle in the book the birth of hyacinth was fast and easy and daphne, eloise and Francesca there when hyacinth was born they told her they would tell her about their father so I hated this season if you read the book he told sir crane that he didn't love his wife when he was force to marry her he said I grew to love her later he came to sir crane house to force him to marry eloise or him and his brothers would hurt him sorry this was a bad season edwina in the books did not care for Anthony and eloise found their father and screamed out to her mother and told her that a bee stung her father and that maybe why eloise didn't want to get marry and be left alone to raise her children like her mother and I am to believe that Anthony could not find any doctor or read any book on bee sting or how one may died from one bee sting I think Anthony in some small part didn't like his sister hyacinth didn't need him to get marry eloise did need him Francesca didn't need him

I am not that big fan of the show but the relationship he had with his mother was very real and interesting. She unintentionally forced him to look after her and the other children while he himself was still one. You can't expect a man with such trauma to be emotionaly stable. She always pushed him too much in my opinion. Comparing him with his father was rather cruel too. She somehow stopped looking at him as her child and stared seeing him as the man of the house. I think by the end of season two she realized he is still a scared young man who just wanted to lean on someone. He always sounded sort of relieved to me when he told Benedict the title would go to him.

I was searching exactly for this comment. I just rewatched s1 to see his character development and I was upset to find his mother being such a harsh critic on anything he does. I can understand and forgive his silblings for not getting him and his trouble but his mother should know better and be thankful in fact how he kept the family together and respectable.
@wardapologist
@wardapologist Год назад
I think the worst part is that he's a child to her when it's convenient for her. In the moments she wants to "put him in his place," he is a child that must heed her every word. When decisions must be made, he is suddenly the man of the house. One cannot be both and as the man of the house, he must hold a certain place. Anthony did as well as he could because his father never taught him how to be a viscount. His mother couldn't come out of her grief for a long time. For Anthony to manage the family so well and keep them stable, as well as extremely well provided for - that meant he learned and he knew how to keep the family thriving. I always loved Anthony, especially in S1. If anyone couldn't see the burden on his shoulders, it's because they don't understand just what it meant to be a viscount.

As someone who also lost a father at 18, I completely understand why Anthony is the way he is. When you lose a father as a child, you are too busy trying to register what is happening, you're growing up, you have diversions. When you lose a father as a grownup, you are hurt, but you have a safety net of a job, a spouse, and/or a child, to divert you from the constant void of their absence. But when you are a teen, transitioning into adulthood, you know much about the world, but also very little. You are still growing up, trying to navigate your hopes, goals, dreams, and suddenly, this happens. You stop functioning, you don't know what to do. You have a grieving mother, so you cannot expect her support because you have to stand by her. But then who'll support you? You're 18, you're an adult now, so you have to pat your own back, cry privately, because you MUST be strong. It's overwhelming, it's exhausting, and no one will understand..when you want to take a break, you'll be called lazy, when you work hard, you'll be criticised. There's no winning. You're alone. Thank you for making this video, it was comforting to watch.

I lost my mother at 18 as well. I became the “wife” for months. I worked, I cleaned, I cooked. I had my family make weird comments about me acting like a wife. My dad left me home alone for weeks at a time. I went to college without any break. I got perfect grades, as I always had. I was the person who never cried and helped the rest of the family. I broke down once, and my family yelled at me. They said they thought it hadn’t really bothered me because I hadn’t talked about it very much. I gave up my dream college and scholarship to be close by my dad to help. If I had broken down, they hated me for not keeping them together. If I stayed strong, they hated me for not grieving correctly. My older sister and dad fought about money and inheritance, and they would make me the middle man. They would yell at me if I didn’t side with them. Usually, they were both in the wrong. When I was at college, no one in my family visited me. I was completely alone. I had been in an abusive relationship the same year I lost my mom, and my friends took his side. I genuinely had no one. My family didn’t believe that he had hit me. I had a mental breakdown and ended up in intensive therapy. My dad said I needed to stay close so he could “take care of me.” When I was discharged from therapy, I applied to a new college, packed my shit, and moved across the country. (I’m the youngest sister by the way. I hate when people say it’s always the oldest. It’s just the one that’s there). I’m about to move for graduate school to the same state my dream college is in. I graduated a year early despite all of this. I’ve written a book as a coping mechanism and it may get published. Life marches on.

And the fact the when he got the news Kate was awake, that was the first time he cried since Edmund's death.. 10 years. I know a lot of people disliked Anthony in S1 but I've always understood where he was coming from bc to me it was obvious that he went through heavy parentification issues. And S2 shows how he also has a lot unresolved trauma that warped his life views. Suddenly having to step in as the parent at a young age to his 7 other siblings with his mother being absent while also carrying the responsibilities as the new viscount with practically no support is a lot. He didnt even get a chance to properly grieve the death of his father, who in his eyes is the greatest man ever. Sure he can be so stubborn and overprotective but he always has his family's best interest in mind. Running their estates, overlooking their staffs, essentially being the father figure esp towards the two youngest, taking care of their finances so that all his siblings can live comfortably and follow their dreams, making sure the girls have dowries and nice dresses etc. It kinda breaks my heart how everyone is so quick to point out his inadequacies and it made him feel like he was doing a terrible job when he was trying his best to keep everything together. I think people do noticed that he's struggling but not how *much* he actually was and helped him. Sure he closed off his emotions even when his family reached out but it felt a bit too cruel to see how when he was having a hard time, the siblings still make snarky comments and give him harsh reality slaps when all he needs is some understanding, comfort and affection. And it took Violet so long to realize that her son still hasn't processed the death his father well and how she was putting too much pressure on him. No wonder Anthony became so high strung and uptight. And this is why Kate is perfect for him. Aside from how they just bounce off each other so well, Kate really understands him bc she practically went through the same thing. They know what it's like to sacrifice yourself for the sake of your family. And now together they both get to learn and heal from their issues.

@@ronaldcox3137 your comparison with the man in the mask falls flat for me. Everyone has their own struggles. And my thoughts on Anthony is focused more on parentification and grief. Not abuse like what Simon went through. Anthony for sure didn't have a hard life growing up, in fact he has many privileges but his struggles are still difficult. Just because 19 is considered a grown man back in those days, doesn't mean that all of them are well-adjusted. And for Anthony, that's a lot of responsibilities he all of a sudden had to bear. Even if he had a great childhood, losing a parent when you are at the transitional period from teenagehood to adulthood have been said to be some of the most difficut time period to deal with the lost of a parent.

The acting is outstanding and on another level from all the cast. The script is a masterpiece and so much more than the book. Thrilling and entertaining... need I say more. Brilliant, just brilliant. (Same for the first Series too) This scriptwriter(s) is off the planet.

omg your edit is everything🤍 they really showed us Anthony's trauma and how his love for Kate slowly changed him and made him realize what he was doing wrong. i love how Daphne says he didn't cry and stopped laughing after Edmund died and then in the end we see him laughing with Kate and letting himself cry for her. he truly came full circle🤍🤍🤍

I don't know why I feel like in season 3 all the Bridgerton brothers and sisters will know what pain Anthony went through the trauma he has been living after his father's death and all this will come out of Kate's mouth because she will she will not let her husband suffer with their behaviour and she herself knows the pain of losing someone

This edit is so beautiful. It honestly made me cry. I love that we got to learn more about Anthony's backstory in season 2. It broke my heart. One of the saddest things to me is that he was suddenly thrown into the role of viscount, without any former preparation or experience. He was so young with so much life left to live and had to alter the course of his life in the blink of an eye. Mere moments after his father's death everyone was asking things of him, and he felt so lost and sad. Having to take on this much responsibility at such a young age can take a toll on a person, I'm sure, but Anthony did it so bravely. He tried his best because he cared so much about his family but everyone shamed him for it. He gave up his own happiness and lost himself to help his family find their happiness. It made me so happy knowing he finally found the love he deserved. I wish I could hug him. Thank you for capturing Anthony's vulnerability and complexity so wonderfully.

Just finished Bridgerton S1 and S2. Even in S1, Anthony was my favourite character - I just understood him even when he was going wrong. S2 showed his story perfectly. Being a firstborn myself and responsible for my sibling and family for a very long time now, I could really relate to him and Kate as they both were doing sacrifices for the sake of family. Hence, Kanthony story was especially beautiful to me. This video is absolutely beautiful and I would be adding it to my saved videos. Perfectly showcased Anthony's character and his journey.

The writers really did an excellent job of having us understand Anthony this season. His decisions from last season became much more clearer. This video beautifully sums up the expectations that where thrust on him and the burden that it put on him. The only complaint I have is that I wish the music was lowered in some parts so the dialogue could be heard better.

I feel so sorry for him after this video….. I loved this season so much and Jonathan performance on the top of everything else. I am just reassured again that you could truly fall in love with a person, understand his soul if you will know him closely. Just felt it so much in his arc and in this season as a whole. I’m glad he will be happy and will surpass his wonderful father in years and I’m happy he will live his long life with Kate (from book epilogue).

I have so much to say but I seen many already commented my same thoughts about Anthony and all he's had to go through and share the same sentiments about it all so I will just point out something else that I found to be somehow consoling, violet says she feels bad because hyacinth will never know her father's laugh and I too thought and felt really bad that she'd never get to know her father but then I realize she does get to know her father's laugh and many other things about him through her siblings, they all share many traits and similarities to their father and his personality, Anthony told Gregory that their father was very serious like him but at the same time he also likes to pull pranks just like Gregory and I believe that through her siblings and how they are and being raised alongside them, she gets to know her father through them.

SEEING THIS PERFECT VIDEO AGAIN I MUST ADD... Knowing from the book Anthony's pain over the loss of his father and the burdens he assumed with the viscounty, I hate Simon a lot when he talks to him that way in season 1. I really love that the Season 2 storyline has emphasized and shown why Anthony is arrogant, proud, and aloof.
