Cara mia Mon Cher I think that he did love her to a certain extent, as well as the two boys he had with her. People today are more accepting of homosexuality than they were back then, so it would not be a big deal now if Perkins lived in this era. But in my opinion, Perkins was a self hating gay man and thought that he could be “cured” if he were with a woman.

I told her everything and she didn't care so we were soon engaged. We have a thirteen year old girl and a ten year old boy. My wife and kids are everything to me. I almost missed out on that. No, I am not cured. But I am faithful to my wife and we have a rich life together. I think I make a pretty good husband and father. I guess Hollywood kept that image in publics head about psycho character Antony, gets spoken too by interviewers like he is a real psycho in reality! !!!! I guess it's the way he acts and talks very panicky way and highly anxious too , but I guess that's just his nature, real handsome man.

I actually kind of wish that he had married Audrey Hepburn and had children with her. Looking at him and Audrey together, I can feel the real love and bond between them, which surpasses any mere admiration toward one another. They were definitely lifelong friends, but I kind of wonder if Tony always had that special spot in his heart for her? At the time of their growing bond (on the set of Green Mansions) she was married to Mel Ferrer. One has to wonder what could have happened if she were single. Oh well. Berry was wonderful for him as well 😊❤️

This is interesting to watch as I'm currently reading a bio on Perkins' private life. He was in love and lust with many men, but to come out as gay would have killed his career and he also wanted a family which was likely a big motivator. At that time you could neither have a family nor a acting career without marriage or pretending to be straight. There was also a huge taboo around being gay. He went to a psychologist and saw being gay as something he had to work on to try to fix. He may have been bisexual. I don't think we'll ever know. I don't doubt he generally cared for and loved Berenson, but I think she also for some reason choose relationships with gay men deliberately. Her relationship before Perkins was gay artist Richard Bernstein. If you read that book you can see his primary interest was men. Today I think he'd be out. 1974 seems recent but it's very important to consider the times people lived in when looking at their lives.

True. I find it very interesting to contrast how he and Tab Hunter (his partner in the late 50s) coped with their homosexuality. Both tried to hide it publicly, but Tab continued to pursue men in private and was (relatively) okay with his identity, whereas Tony ended up undergoing conversion therapy and marrying a woman. Like you said I don't doubt that genuinely loved Berry, but it's such a shame he couldn't be who he was at heart publicly.

Very, very sad. Such a good looking great actor. I read somewhere that after his father left home, his mother sexually abused him, maybe that was a contributor to what he became, gay! He said at interviews that it really disturbed him what his mother did to him. It haunted him all his life. Evil sick mother!

@@wjglll340 Oh wow. Well personally I could never see me doing that but if you're genuinely happy then best of wishes to you Edit: Actually, I take all of that back. Judging by other comments you've made elsewhere you're nothing but a self-hating gay man who thinks punching down on queer people will make you feel better about yourself. You think disapproving of your local elementary school's principal being a gay man married to another man will somehow absolve your mind of all the gay shit you willingly did when you were young? You think you're “cured” of your homosexuality because you got married to a woman and blamed your gay friend (who was obviously being abused you fucking idiot) for turning you gay, rather than acknowledging your true self? As a young 20yo gay man I both have sympathy and utter disgust for you. In another timeline you would've been free to be your true self instead of the miserable, old, bigoted self-hating gay man you are today. Tony would spit on you.

He wasn't it was all 'hype' propoganda back when to get the publice to feel that gayness was more 'acceptable' He wasn't gay he waited to get married to the rightperson and after his career was really on the high. Notice how people say all these great actors were gay AFTER they pass away? THAT is the angle, they cannot defend themeselves so people start to believe it. All those famous people John Wayne, Cary Grant, Tony, Maurice Evans: : AFTER these poor SUPERB actors die, then the morons start saying they were gay TO BRAINWASH the pblic into thinking gayness is normal in our society - this is AFTER AIDS came out, they didn't want people to panic so they start saying all these great actors that are deceased were gay, to convince the public.

2:35 That's interesting. He points out that he liked her not being intrusive, gave him the freedom to easily say no. One might think it should've been easy for a man like him to say no, but maybe it wasn't.

@@emileelovsyapping they maybe loved each other deeply as friends. Maybe he was like Freddie Mercury and loved his female partner dearly for life but had more of a preference for men. Also, in the book Just Kids by Patti Smith, Robert was gay but practically went after Patti because she had that carefree personality and was more masculine looking/ was actually mistaken for a “pretty man” once. But although Robert was gay he always loved Patti and wanted to be close with her despite getting into romantic relationships with men in his later years, before dying of AIDS.
